Curious how Pinsiders would define a player as a 'Pinball Wizard.'

    #2 3 years ago

    A geek.

    #3 3 years ago

    Pointy hat

    #4 3 years ago

Plays pinball like an instrument rather than a game.

    Pretty much opposite of ME.

    #5 3 years ago

Somebody with a love of cliches, who wears teal-colored t-shirts that say, "I'm a pinball wizard."

You can spot 'em at every show.

Any non-pinball player will refer to you as that.

    #7 3 years ago

Once a WIZARD always a WIZARD

As long as you have the shirt, you qualify....then everyone knows

You are a pinball wizard if you can qualify in "A" division at PAPA.

If he stands like a statue,
    Becomes part of the machine.
    Feeling all the bumpers
    Always playing clean.
    He plays by intuition,
    The digit counters fall.

then he is a pinball wizard

Carl would probably call himself a pinball wizard.

    pinball lessons - $60 (spk)

so its that time of year again. its cold and people areent really going outside so i am starting up my pinball lessons again. last year i was not able to offer lessons (my landlord Terry kicked me out) for those who dont know i teach pinball and i teach it well. 60 dollars gets you one hour with a meal. I still have grade A machines all fully working. i will teach you so many techniques and manuvers that will help you in my tournament in april. if you take lessons you have free entry in my tournament. as requsted i am offering many different varyations for food. (I have a inside deal at Arbys now), but that we can talk about later. my aunt is my current roomate (my machines share a room with her barry gibb collection). so there are certain times when a lesson could be interupted but i will make sure you get a full hour for sure. i am also looking to buy a couple more machines so if you have some i would be interested in talking. (I do also offer magic lessons....no package deals) contact me (carl) for any lessons of your interest. pinball will fill up as always.

    (Yes, he's back...again https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/pinball-lessons-hurry-slots-are-filling-up-fast )

After being asked by seemingly 99% of non-pinheads if "I'm a pinball wizard?" (and each one thinking that they're the first to think of such a "witty" question), I've really come to detest that term.

the robes. You have to have a robe with a very large hood. also large sleeves that hang down like a hookers vagin.

    #18 3 years ago

    A grey beard

Must be able to play by sense of smell.

    #23 3 years ago

Someone who is Deaf, Dumb and Blind.

Ok, no thumbs downs because you don't get it.

    #24 3 years ago

Not absolutely necessary, but being named "Merlin" or "Gandalf" helps.

    #25 3 years ago

For starters, the "Pinball Wizard" is like the "Highlander", in the sense that there can be only one.

To be the Pinball Wizard, one must graciously and generously provide the most authoritative, comprehensive guides on Pinside - covering every thing from flipper rebuilds to playfield restores, to how not to get scammed, to how to pick up chicks.

The Pinball Wizard - there can be only 1... 900.

    #26 3 years ago

If your wife would prefer to play another game than you, since you take so long.....

Here's the best explanation of what makes a Pinball Wizard

    #29 3 years ago

Someone who can fix them as well as they can play them.

    #30 3 years ago

I am a horrible player but its ok because I know a way to become a certified A1 pinball wizard......I heard about this dude named Carl that gives lessons and even provides tasty Shasta and a snack during the break. Carls the man.

    #31 3 years ago

You have to have someone singing about you while you play. That is how you make it to level 80.

    #32 3 years ago

You have to be the star of an aggressively bad movie.

    #33 3 years ago

    1. My iPhone calls me "Pinball Wizard"
    2. I won a pinball trophy when I was about 12 years old (in the seventies!)

    Someone who'd wear this.

..and no pinball player would refer to me as that.

    #36 3 years ago

You need to play loose, like Wizards sleeve.........

    #37 3 years ago

Anyone can play pinball well sober and straight with enough practice but drinking at least 12 beers, partaking in quality herb and still plying well= pinball wizard!

    Quoted from BCpinhead:

That's me! I do both poorly.

    #39 3 years ago

Anybody who can wiggle a ball out of the outlane is a wizard in my book.

    #40 3 years ago

When the local paper or tv station does a piece on you and your collection, they will inevitably refer to you as a 'pinball wizard'. Then you know you are one.

Need to be deaf, dumb and blind.

    And drinking a few yeunglings.

    #42 3 years ago

Can't believe no one has given this answer yet...... someone who frequently gets to the "wizard" modes..........duh.

    #43 3 years ago
    Quoted from needz:

Anybody who can wiggle a ball out of the outlane is a wizard in my book.

I've seen that done before, but last night was the first time I've ever successfully done it myself. I was playing Tron, and I swear the ball was below the post. Double-danger, but I walked the ball back up into the inlane. I am NOT a wizard, but I sure as hell felt like one.

    #44 3 years ago

Routinely getting world class scores on a machine makes you a wizard on that one.
Being able to hit your shots most of the time.
Knowing most of the rules and being able to play in a manner to utilize that knowledge (example: Bats bonus on BSD ).
Must have at least come close to completing any pinball you claim to be a wizard on.
Using catching, cradling, and passing in order to maximize control of your balls.

    #45 3 years ago

Being able to move a machine into your basement without going to the hospital.

    #46 3 years ago

    Leather pants......

    Perfect answer!

    #48 3 years ago

You have a pointy hat, pinballs for testes, and Pinball Wizard continually plays out your arse.

    #49 3 years ago

If I can regularly get to mini-wizard modes, does that make me a mini-wizard?

    #50 3 years ago

I would say if you've won or placed in more than one tourney you pretty much qualify.
