Quoted from Dooskie:Yeah, apparently I created a lot of hate and discontent because of the way I acquired the machine. Was severely scolded and threatened by one of the moderator's. So it's a topic best left undiscussed. Not going to have it much longer though. Had an offer on it I decided to accept.
It was a "pics or didn't happen" type of situation, from what I recall. If there were photos proving ownership, I'm sure there would have been no controversy. Folks had/have a hard time believing it without seeing photos. That's pretty much all it was.
Those were pinball-related topics and seemed to somewhat stay on topic.
The off-topic forum is just that--a forum for topics that are unrelated to pinball or a little too on the wild side for public consumption.
Quoted from o-din:This has nothing to do with those threads. It is about topics that get sent immediately to the basement and others that linger in the all pinball sub-forum for months.
In the cases of those that got sent to the basement I'm referring to there was only positive feedback before they got flushed where ones that stay on the front page have all the usual name calling and fighting.
However, we were working on ideas for a middle ground, which I'm sure we will be revisiting once Robin catches up after he returns from vacation.
The OT forum was added as a response to requests to allow an area for discussions where the rules were a bit more relaxed. Obviously, there are still plenty of interesting and worthwile threads in the OT forum in the basement, and moving threads there isn't intended to be a punishment of some sort. Threads are simply moved around to the forum that bests fits the discussion at hand.
Quoted from o-din:Amazing how that happened on the first day and none of the pinside staff saw this thread isn't it?
We don't read every thread and every post. No one person can. Check the site stats...it ranges between 1500 to 3000 posts and 50 to 200 threads per day. It's pretty astonishing when you think about it. There is so much going on, that threads can sometimes wiz by the first page in a matter of hours and get lost among other active threads.
If you think a thread is particularly worthy of moderator attention (good or bad), report it, open a moderator feedback thread, or send one of us a PM. We're not scary people, I assure you. We just try to help keep things running reasonably smoothly, and each one of you can help us do that.
Quoted from Dooskie:Guess that's not such a bad thing. Moderator's are in the 'no win scenario' most of the time, although I don't shed a tear for them. It's their choice, and they have to take the bad with the good.
Quoted from o-din:These guys are doing the best they can and are all good people. I'm just a stubborn old mule.
True, we do get hit with a lot of blame and complaints for jumping in too much or not enough, but we have thick skin. Balance is challenging, and you can't make everyone happy, but we try to do our best and always listen to thoughts, ideas, and constructive criticism.
In the end, we're all here because of a passion for pinball
