Picked up a WaterWorld tonight, after leisurely looking for a couple years.
shame, more people don't give these pins a fair shot. Oh well

My transmission in my Yukon XL shit the bed, so out came the Avalanche to save the day for picking up this: Nos playfield installed Bally SS Night Rider. Too nice to really play on without clearing it, so many of these are chewed up.

Story is, my niece works at a restore and they don't take arcade/pinball games. Her co worker who does the pickups on things like furniture and appliances, mentioned to my niece about a pinball machine an old lady just wanted to get rid of in her basement, kids and grandkids had grown, etc and she just wanted it gone. (my niece had told them I was into pinball so that's why he gave her the heads up)
I had forgotten my tools on the way over to get it, and all I had was a pair of plyers and a flat head, and wouldn't you know, no key for the headbox. Hacking that lock wasn't fun but I had to, because the bolt was in there preventing the head from going down.
I guess she had it for around 20 years in a windowless basement, the batteries were dated for 1999. Playfield was black/dirty but wiped it down and is easily the nicest Black Rose I've seen. Plays like new too. First free to come along.

I've had this game more than a few times. After much of the Stern price increases/cost cuts to pros, I knew this was one I wanted to cement back into my collection for the long haul. Took some time to find one but here it is. Welcome back!

Quoted from JodyG:

That's the one. It needed a fair amount of work done to get it going. The 5v was bad on the power supply board, RAM was bad, the rubbers had deteriorated and fell off, half the bulbs looked like factory original, one display panel was out, etc. Luckily it is in good shape overall, it just needed 25 years of preventative maintenance done all at once. I am starting to look into modding in a shaker motor...because the torpedo blasts just beg to have some shaking to go along with the light show!

Have had a few of those, they used to be give away prices ($300)
The sound package for Torpedo Alley is what the sound package is for Phantom of the Opera, In other words, it's incredible, and the light show in that game is second to none for its time.

Has the famous crack down the leg, so it came with a brand new cabinet that Stern sent the guy I picked it up from.
Gotta say, pretty populated too, speaker, flipper switches, latch keep, etc... good on them.

No idea what "sexy time" might entail with TWD, but good for you to be lining it up!
And I like your clever use of old pool cue handles as rollers in the back of your minivan!
Good job!

She’s nice looking!

Yeah, once upon a time many years ago, I pulled a WCS94 out of a Tahoe and it ripped apart the front of the cabinet getting snagged. That kind of sucked.
Once you use a pool cue, there’s no going back!
And it’s a Yukon XL, it’s been raining like crazy here for several days, ugh.

Been a busy last couple of weeks, first with the survivor Phantom of the Opera from the NYC area near the tappan Z.... Put a bunch of love into that, but it had great bones and is a beauty now, one of the best ones I’ve seen.
Then went up to Vermont to grab a Haunted House (picture of the cellar should tell the story) but the backglass was eh, so I sprung for an awesome Shay reproduction.
Then landed an ex TNT Black Hole out of CT a few days ago that’s in really nice shape.

The kids have been having some fun with these classics but I’m tired now, lol, I think I’ve worn my knees out from hauling these, I’ve forgotten how heavy they are and I’m not 18 anymore :/

Quoted from chad:

Nice haul.! Is the tire iron a friendly persuasion to Black Hole that it better not have any issues?

Haha, well, I like Todd at TNT but I disagree with his grounding philosophy and method that he is adamant about on system 80.
You can’t just run a lone extra ground between the driver and cpu, you need to ground each individual board for added protection in case any one of those connectors fail on any of the other boards. With that said, very little needed to be done otherwise.
Once you go through them the right way and take your time with them, a system 80 is a joy to own and play.

After playing some iconic Ems down on Cape Cod a few weeks ago, I’m like “ you know, I miss these suckers”
So I then looked on marketplace and the next town over had this Captain Fantastic for $200. It was actually best offer, so that’s what I offered and he was thrilled. Said they’ve had that game for 40 years.
Backglass is mint, got her going the same day. (Yes I dropped the head after the picture for transport

Then I picked up Spirit of 76’ with some issues I sorted out, which now plays great, along with a fully working High Speed.
I got two EM beauties coming next week… stay tuned…

Quoted from Mathazar:

Didn't really expect to be posting in this thread today! Some days, you do really get lucky in this hobby.
After restoring several SS pins over the last few years, I've been thinking for the last few months that I'd like to dive in and learn EM. Then last night, my CL filter picked up a "pinball" hit for an estate sale set for Friday morning, about 20 miles from me. In the CL pictures, amongst the usual estate sale fodder, sat an EM Night Rider in a dark corner of the basement. I emailed the guy last night asking how much, is it working, and could I possibly come check it out Thursday before the estate sale. Much to my surprise, he answered me within 30 minutes with the asking price and a time Thursday to come by, check it out, and potentially buy it before anyone showed up the next day. He just wanted this pin gone. It's not working - it powers on with GI lit but nothing else happening.
Got there this morning and the guy was nice as can be. His dad passed away a couple of years ago and they're finally getting around to clearing out his house. This was the family pin and it sat in the same spot in that basement for more than 22 years but hasn't worked in the last 10.
A few hundred dollars later, I was loading it up in my truck. He had the key for the coin door but not the backbox, so I had to drill that out that lock to break down the backbox for transport.
Very pleased with my find - the machine is complete. The playfield is in pretty nice shape and so are the plastics, the cab and backbox innards look like a museum, and at first glance all of the labels and cards for the innards look in place and intact. The backglass is nearly perfect and that's a good thing - I'm pretty sure EM versions of the Night Rider backglass are hard to find.
This'll stay broken down in my garage for a couple of months while I finish the restoration on my Black Knight. I'm all set with my winter project now! Time to read up on EM troubleshooting, triage, and maintenance basics now....
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

Great grab! You’ll have that up and running in no time. EM repair just requires patience and persistence, with a good eye, they’re not too hard once you figure out what does what.
When you get them right, they run like a Swiss watch!

Quoted from Ballderdash:

I can’t believe a pin fits into a JKU. That’s also a pretty decent lift up to get over the swing gate. You must’ve had help?

Wpc and sterns too, very easily.

The best advice for moving pins into and out of a vehicle is the fat half of a pool stick.

I didn’t pick this up, but it was at the same place. Said “nobody has wanted it for $800 and it works!”

I thought it was (sorta) interesting.

Apparently, it was rethemed and used in an episode of law and order. Lol

Been casually looking for a baseball EM and found a bargain Home Run today, or I should say it found me.
Only 580 produced back in 71’ - so on the uncommon side, and this one had been in the previous owners family since 1978 as a Christmas gift.
I love the backglass on this one!

For some reason or another, my third pin (A 1990 “Dr Dude”) didn’t come back into my hands until about 17 years and 1000 games later.
Yet I’ve had sometimes dozens of other titles come back around.

Nostalgia is a wonderful thing.

This was priced right, so it comes home.
Yup, not the deepest, but I’m surprised how fun it is.
Reminds me of taxi/diner, (well it’s the same designer)
I’m going to throw some lightning flippers in it and crank the difficulty to very hard.

The drug rat and the Colombian cocaine cartel alone make this a more than worthy purchase.

Brought home this HUO Totem the other day that stayed with the same owners since they bought it new.
They were moving and didn’t want to take it with them. Always loved the backglass art on this game for some reason. Tempted to buy an NOS glass I have a lead on for it because the backglass didn’t survive too well.
Cabinet is mint, underside is clean as a whistle.
Needed a power supply and new rubber but plays like a champ, the kids and I have put dozens of games on it.

P.s I can’t believe how hard to hit that collect bonus hole is. Definitely feels great to get that shot, but super rarely comes from a shot at it and more so a random bounce in.

Quoted from Murphdom:

Why are there so many pins on Long Island? It doesn’t make sense. A fairly large operator must been out there at some point and sold everything off.

This was an older guy, who said his wife got them from an operator 20-25 years ago who was selling off a lot of his games. He literally hadn’t touched or fixed any of them in that time and said he didn’t know how to.
The price for the lot was too good to be true, $300 for all, but sure enough, I lucked out and was able to pick them all up.
So far I’ve gotten Solar Ride up and running. Cpu had issues, and the ball trough coil was clipped and missing the drop target coil, but otherwise, really good shape.
Got it all going and I can’t believe how fun that game is for how simple it is.

Mars God of war had every fuse blown under the playfield for some strange reason along with two melted coils and corroded connectors but super clean under the hood and a mylared playfield. Spent several hours on that one today, and got it 100% playing just after midnight tonight. It helps having some spare Gottlieb parts around from over the years.

Tomorrow I may dabble on the solar city and hot tip and see what they’re up to.

Been after one of these brutes. Spent all day playing it after I dragged it up two flights of stairs to the attic with the strength of Conan the Barbarian.
System 1’s… how are they so simple and yet so addicting.

A load of good stuff today that I couldn’t resist. More system 1’s for the attic lineup (love em)
That pitch and bat looks cool as hell, and Time Line is one I don’t see too often and have never had.

This was interesting. Someone listed this on marketplace with no head and wanted offers. I told him I had the headbox for this, and would love to have it (been after one for several years since my last one sailed out the door and I have no idea where I even acquired the headbox from it’s been so long)
Anyways, I gave him an offer and he told me he’d let me know because he wanted a moon price for it based off current listings people are asking. Said his phone was blowing up (what are you guys going to do with a headless spider? Lol)

Next day he calls me to tell me to come it. Almost lost it trying to get it out of his basement with CURVED stairs. It was ridiculous nonsense but this is why we lift all them weights, right?

Thar she be in all its glory, this is gonna be fun stuff.

Quoted from Murphdom:

More importantly…what happened to your username. The old one was better

Eh, I changed it. Wasn’t sure if I was feeling like a shackler getting his revenge anymore.

Quoted from jrpinball:

Were you able to determine if the body and head were originally from the same machine?

Haven’t yet, no but I’ll look for numbers. Highly unlikely, but how cool would that be lol.

This was a helluva good haul today.
Except the Jacks to open lol I really couldn’t stand that game the last time I had it and I doubt much has changed.

I know I’m in the minority, but I always liked Star Wars Episode 1 pinball. Tons of modes, and the concept 24 years later still blows my mind, way ahead of its time. Wish they made more of them.

Quoted from bluespin:

Great haul. I rarely see Time Machines. Did you not like Jacks to Open because it’s a digital version of Jacks Open or don’t like either?

I’m going to take another stab at it, but I remember not liking something about the rules. I thought when you knock down everything/get all the sets of cards then only three drops pop up?

When you go to pick up just a Hot Shot but the Slugfest is for sale too, they both get loaded.

If you’ve never played these, they are a TON of fun, my kids are going to love playing them.
