Picked up my first ever pin last weekend. Game Plan Sharpshooter.

The PO is a terrific guy and gave me what I feel was a great deal. Also threw in nearly all of his left over supply of "stuff".

Fit quite nicely in my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee!

Of course it was raining, but hey, can't have it all.

I'm looking forward to this hobby. Is it wrong to be looking for other deals already?

This game is awesome, and I don't expect it going anywhere for a long, long time.

Quoted from Colsond3:

Welcome to the hobby. It is wrong, but everybody does it. Sometimes I'm perusing CL or Pinside before I leave the seller's house...while I'm still in the driveway (just in case I come across a good deal "on the way home"). This hobby is an illness...start medicating.
Call 1-800-PINBALL. It's a support group that I started that focuses on sporadic and overzealous pinball buying.

I figured this was going to be an addictive hobby judging by threads showing basement arcades and discussion of divorce!

Glad I'm not alone.

#5188 6 years ago
Quoted from gdonovan:

I started 3 months ago, 14 pins.

That's impressive, and frightening at the same time.

I have still been scouring CLIST every morning. ..... and night. You know, just in case someone is selling for pennies on the dollar.

I've only got room for 1 though, ok probably 2. Yeah, I could definitely fit 2, maybe 3 if ......

hurray!, pressing the Eprons back in their sockets brought my (sold as broken) Tx-Sector back to life!

100% I restored Kiddie Rides and if you were closer I'd
offer something very decent for it mostly to save it..
I'd have to think one of a very few (if that)..

Yeah, I'd rather you use the front to make a mold and then resell. Win - win.

But hey, it's yours, do with it as you wish.

Some Whitewood goodness: Note the Sharpshooter drop targets

Should you decide to replace those drop targets I'd be interested in them.

I own a Sharpshooter.

#5476 6 years ago
Quoted from PinPilot:

Just took home the original Game Plan factory prototype of Andromeda! It's on a Whitewood playfield, with notes from the designers. It's in a Captain Hook cabinet, s/n 5375. The back glass is pristine! The Pinside game catalog has a photo of it - it's the Whitewood. I'm hauling it home now, may post more pics later.

This is very cool. I think things like these offer so much conversation and history.

Nice catch!

#5498 6 years ago
Quoted from bronco-jon:

Went to go look at an old Gottlieb Vulcan today.....The playfield condition told me to load it up.
It's missing one of the plastics behind the left drop targets.

Like me some Vulcan! Nice grab.

Quoted from wayout440:

I've got a Secret. Thanks to.amkoepfer

I like the the theme and humor of that machine. If my budget weren't $500 I'd be all over one as my second pin.

Good luck 001!

I love that theme!

I'd like it as art, but I feel The Mrs. might disagree.

#5576 6 years ago

Nice find! I'm happy it's out of storage.

#5608 6 years ago

My son would go crazy for that IM! So would i!

Nice get.

#5611 6 years ago

Sa-weet! Except for the batteries of course.

I can verify that an Al's Garage Band goes on a World Tour will NOT fit in a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, , ,

Well, without a little deconstruction anyway

Ive got my NIB TRon LE and a Star Trek LE coming next week. My wife is going to walk into the garage and see them. I do not think she will be happy. Wish me luck. If I disappear off the forum, you probably have an idea of what happened to me.

Just make sure there's a small box for her on top of them

#5687 6 years ago

A threesome? Nice!

#5694 6 years ago
Quoted from bflagg:

Picked up a project Lost World with a toasted backglass, also picked up this one from the same owner for a good price. Needs some cleaning and new rubber and a few misc things. Not sure it will stay too long. Best part is the $73 in quarters in it makes the purchase price that much better.

Found money, Sweet!
Nice to pick up a twosome.

#5698 6 years ago
Quoted from Chosen_S:

And it's fashionably on topic... the wife says cactus is 'in' right now
Looks like a cool game!

Ha! Was shopping with wife the other day at Home Goods and they had a 5 foot plastic (?) Cactus for $80. I told her it would look great next to my Sharpshooter. She disagreed.

#5699 6 years ago
Quoted from lpeters82:

Just picked up my first EM...Gold Strike. Probably jumped in over my head with a non-working machine, but it's a great machine.

Nice machine, good luck with the fix.
I was considering a western theme for all my pins, this one was on the list.

Brought home one of my grail pins this week. I know it isn't the deepest or most fun game on the planet, but I have desperately wanted one since getting into pinball!

#5754 6 years ago

What's the over/under on this one?

14 days until she accepts your keeping both?

#5761 6 years ago
Quoted from Oneangrymo:

That would work, but she'll be like "you don't have any friends". I'll just try to hide them under some blankets or something.

I'm live pretty close to you. I'll be your "friend" and keep a few for you until you need to rotate.

#5771 6 years ago

Phew! That must have been a horrific few moments for you.

#5840 6 years ago

I was looking at one of those around me months ago. Amazing how some Craigslist sellers don't return email, calls, or other.

Good luck. Looking forward to the restoration.

#5872 6 years ago

Excellent find. I saw one listed a while ago. Poster initially said non working, then changed ad to working. I was tempted as the backglass is pretty neat.

#6346 6 years ago
Quoted from Isochronic_Frost:

Yay, I can finally post my exciting score!
This is my second pin that I've been hunting down for a while now! The first time I saw one of these and watched the gameplay I fell in love. What a perfect combination!
It took me hunting into a stale ad on Facebook many hours and miles away. The pictures were sparse and the price was too high. Luckily it hadn't sold and the gentleman was glad to finally move it out! We settled on a FANTSTIC price and I set out on an all day adventure.
This game also happens to be quite special, as this hails from the legendary FUNSPOT! I'm thrilled to be only the 2nd person to own it.
Yes, FunSpot means heavily routed... but surprisingly this game looks great and there wear is minimal. Playfield needs a good polishing but artwork is fantastic!!
Without further delay, here's my extremely HEAVY new Baby!

Congrats! Looks good from afar.

#6399 6 years ago
Quoted from Rondogg:

Believe me, I have way more respect for your collection than almost all of the cookie cutter collections (MMr, CV, TZ, DI, etc etc). Those pins all look like a blast!

Yeah, it's funny, many of the coveted pins do little to move me. I am definitely envious of AFM owners though

I love my Sharpshooter. Not even on the radar by almost everyone here, but it is the pin by which I judge others. If it makes you happy then it's worth the money.

#6420 6 years ago
Quoted from ForceFlow:

Ended up with a fairly rare find last week--Gottlieb Star Race. Never thought I'd see one in the wild. I never cease to be amazed at what pops up.
The MPU had battery damage, so it wouldn't boot. A previous owner zip tied the game over relay so the coils would still flip, and they continued playing it in that state. There was a beer bottle cap taped down in the kicker hole so the ball wouldn't get trapped. I'm not sure what they did about getting the ball out of the trough and into the shooter lane since those coils are under the apron and can't be manipulated manually by just reaching in through coin door.
The backglass is flaking, has a small chunk missing, and the playfield has some wear and is flaking above the flippers. I never know what to do with flaking playfields since I don't do clear coating, and I'd rather not throw down mylar since it would only pull up the paint later and cause problems for future restoration. Maybe I'll hunt down someone in the area who can spray it without having to take apart everything on the underside of the playfield.

Was that the Craigslist ad? I saw that, went pretty quickly! I was thinking about looking at it but sounds as though it found a much better owner.

So you're excited to have it back, so you can get rid of it again? I'm confused.

Brought home an F14 today. Glad I offered low over the phone as everyone's definition of "Good condition " is clearly different.

Nonetheless, game functions properly, so after a power wash, this thing should be fine.

That is a great looking playfield. I don't think I've ever seen a Star Trek look that nice. Usually, they just suck, and are listed as "good condition".

Hope it plays for you too.

Quoted from mbaumle:

Thanks! I should’ve clarified. I played the game before I bought it, but just enough to verify everything worked. I’ve never extensively played it enough to have a real opinion on its gameplay.
The backglass has some disappointing delamination though. I guess you can’t have it all.

I think you did pretty well. You can generally find backglass or repro's, but the playfields seem to be a PITA.
Cool either way, and happy its a player too.

Quoted from Coindork:

Picked this guy up a little while back so figured I would post some pics.
Long story a short a really good customer of mine found out that I collected pins and gave it to me.
I'm pretty sure it has not been played in a very long time.
All of the rubbers were yellow, cracked and hard as a rock.
Anyhow, had it out in the driveway today with my 8 year old son working on it.
Striped sown the play filed and cleaned it, replaced all the rubbers and burnt out bulbs today.
Also fixed some of the plastics that were warped by laying them flat on the garage floor and taking a heat gun to them.
After that my son and I replaced all the bulbs in the head box and underneath the play filed as well as two loose solenoids for the score reels that were missing screws. After that it got dark and was dinner time. Will probably hit it again in the next few days.
The game seems to mostly work excepts a couple of the coils keep getting stuck once the ball is in play and has hit targets.
Anyhow, pretty bitchin for free. [quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

Picked this up yesterday with a fellow Pinsider. The price was right and the labor free.

No glass, or keys.
Backglass looks great.
I think the cab will clean up nicely.
Playfield is what it is, but some cleaning and a coat of wax wouldn't hurt.

Listed as non-working, turns out the owner didn't realize there was a power switch on the bottom.

It’s what the hip kids are saying now. When I first started seeing it on the gram (Instagram), Twitter and such I couldn’t understand it. Then I realized it’s the next “thing” how we use words ironically. Such as “literally” as an exaggeration of figuratively or using “lit” as in hot, which itself meant popular. And now “minute” actually meaning a long amount of time has passed. Example “Been a minute since I last went to a pinball tournament” or “been a minute since my last break from Pinside” (I’ve been on everyday for over 2 years)

Yeah, I misunderstood the post, because I'm old. This should clear things up as well:

Probably won’t take it, I tried before. The guys who have one simply aren’t selling unless it’s a silly number. The last guy I talked to said he turned down 45k, perhaps now someone wants to cash in?

Did pretty extensive research on this the past month to fully understand what I was getting into, the price was nice, and I figured opportunities to buy it wouldn't come around very often with only 25 made. The code and A/V is unfinished but there's a lot more to it than you'd think (many modes and mode stacking, extra balls, multiballs, timed saves, etc.), and most importantly, it's fun to play. Reminds me of the early '80s sci-fi themed pins: Some ramps, some orbits/horseshoes, drop targets, trippy graphics, and with the modern touch of a colorful LED lightshow. I'm happy with it.
Happy new year everyone!

If you had to sink a grand into that thing it'd still be worth it! That is awesome! Plus, you made somebody happy by getting it out of their house!

Another 1947 for me. Go figure. Apparently these backglasses are "shiny keys" to me!

Thanks to the96stang for an easy transaction.

CRAZY![quoted image]

People complain about the monotone callouts and "crazy", but I think it's genius! Love my DI! Congrats on a kick ass line up.

So, I went onsite to repair a Stern Transformers Pin. This is what it was. It has power but won’t turn on. They gave it to me rather than pay my minimum charge to come out.
Now to try to figure out what the heck is wrong.
[quoted image]

Best price you could ask for.

You're welcome

Looks great!

Game of small balls...

Quoted from Dee-Bow:

This should clean up alright for a player's condition pin! Annd It flips! (minus the flipper bat broke off!) ripping the spinner sounds awesome!! EM chimes are sweet! Score reels work! I never knew William's used metal for the heads and cabinets in the late 70's! Did they do that on lots of pins?![quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

I like the artwork on that!

Quoted from northerndude:

We can’t assume we know the setup they had to buy. Maybe zero interaction, etc.

Correct. Perhaps every game was Lysoled, and then UV lit.

Maybe each person has been in complete isolation for 2 weeks prior.

That is nice!

Quoted from PinDeLaPin:

Picked this 1963 United Sabre 13ft big ball bowler up yesterday. I drove 4 hours each way to get it and was very happy to do so. I've been looking for a ball bowler for 3 years now it is definitely a Grail machine. Someday I will find a 3ft extension piece to make it 16ft but for now i'm grinning ear to ear.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

Wow, that looks terrific! Nice grab!

#15439 3 years ago
Quoted from PinDeLaPin:

Thanks Ron I can't wait to see your new one posted on here also when you get it.

Hoping I get one soon, but who knows,,,,

Quoted from SilverUnicorn:

Wow, fantastic looking phantom! That backglass looks mint!
Not sure how you waited 5 years to set that bad boy up! Love ours. Enjoy it!
Chris

Seriously? A grail pin and you leave it alone for 5 years?
I think I'm misunderstanding the term, , ,

Nice looking machine!

#15563 3 years ago
Quoted from PinDeLaPin:

Wasn't even really looking right now for anything as i'm consumed with my ball bowler project. However, when opportunity knocks you open the damn door. Ot's a 1963 Midway Duck Hunt and you don't see this one very often and it's about 90% functional. Cosmetically it's a little rough but will become a good project when I get to it. Definitely gonna need a coin door for it so if anyone has one that will work send me a pm.[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

When it rains, right?

Cool game man!

Quoted from PBEarwood:

Not a pin, but still a nice one to add.
