And another late post(of course)

Thank you so much popeboy for the hospitality and the muscle to get this classic pin out of your basement!

Not to self, a small Mazda is BARELY big enough for this era pin.

Quoted from barakandl:

I disagree in a lot of cases. It is a comfortability and maybe tool issue. SMT is way easier than people make it out to be. My replacement board you can swap chips.... without heating up a desoldering gun! which is by far the most likely place to go wrong. I stagger a SMT chip over top of through holes. If a SMT chip needs replaced you can snip out the SMT chip with sharp snips or heat gun it off. Then you have FRESH holes to work with. I will do this will SMT regulators and power transistors too. I can usually fix the same issue on one of my boards way faster than an original.
I avoid densely placing parts. Avoid anything smaller than 0805 and standard outline chips. I avoid tiny drill holes, 15mil to 20mil signal traces are pretty sturdy compared to the thin copper tracks on say a system 11 MPU. Future rework is kept in mind. I have to fix these boards after people blow them up hooking connectors up wrong or etc =).

I can see the thought you put into your boards @barakandl, greatly appreciated!
heck, I've just bought 3 of your boards in the last month
I really can see how you have build possible repairs into there design.

I learned SMT soldering from your Bally lamp driver kits you used to offer. Now I can literally drag solder a large IC package in less than a minute!

If I had to play Devil's Advocate, I'd love to see a little thicker board, like PCB Pinball does.

Photo below I did the transistors like that for practice...working around obstacles instead of working the middle outward.
