Picked up a Doctor Who yesterday. Faded but it came with a full set of decals. I'll play it for a few months and then I'll tackle the cab restoration. Have a Pinsound, shaker, ColorDMD, and LED OCD to install in it this weekend. Previous owner LED'd it but there's boat loads of strobing and ghosting going on. Pretty distracting. Glad I had ordered a few sets of the OCD boards in advance.
Unloaded and carried in the house by myself. I love my Escalera stair climber with forklift attachment!!! I use the forklift to lift the pinball to put on the rear legs too. My back is destroyed so this thing is a life saver. Here's me unloading the machine from the truck:
Quoted from Green-Machine:What is the cost of the Escalera? 3k?
Escalera is expensive but I have no regrets getting it. Hauling pins out of the truck and bringing down in the basement by myself is awesome. I have the powered forklift attachment. My kids are gone and my back is screwed so it was necessary to find a way to be able to do this alone.
I got the pinball plate, the regular large plate, the larger toe plate, and the big wheel attachment.
I’m in Canada so the price I paid isn’t really relevant. It’s much more than you lol.
Quoted from gdonovan:Heading home with DE 001[quoted image]
I owned an early Laser War for a while. Had the blue prototype MPU in it. No schematics (board was slightly different than version 1). Never got the board to work but got a replacement. Lightning fast game. Well done and enjoy!
Through word of mouth i was offered a P2K for a great price. Never thought I’d let one of those in the house lol. Needs some TLC. Still running on original hardware.

I resemble that remark
Quoted from Green-Machine:1 year and 5 months after my first pin....I have 6! This hobby is crack!
This is my second go at this hobby. Just under a year to get up to 6, of which 2 were NIB. No longer being married to someone who hates pinball helps. Having a gf that’s more addicted to pins than I am is friggin awesome lol..
A few weeks ago she was exposed to my first “sell 1 to get 1 in” and she don’t like it. Adding is ok. Removing is not. Although she is totally in love with the latest addition (WOZ).
Quoted from cottonm4:That's cool. The coin box looks like 1930s Art Deco.
And don’t forget that ashtray!!
Quoted from Pinkitten:The Force Arrives!
[quoted image]
So jelly! On my wishlist!
Quoted from FelixTCat:Not mine but fyi:https://www.facebook.com/commerce/listing/387242825978949/?ref=share_attachment
Damn it... The whole "border crossing" thing is an issue at this time though....
Quoted from bluespin:Link isn’t working. What is it?
SWLE FS in California. Links works for me...
Quoted from Boof-Ed:Dr who back for a second time. Had to get some LEDs into it straight away.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
Just needs a ColorDMD and Pinsound now
Quoted from JoshPA:Woah, Buffalo! Scott Reynolds from All lives up there, his partner (wife?) has a pub somewhere near there and I think they do live music.
Nice Escalera. Wish there was a thread where we could talk about them.
And don't forget:
Quoted from TopMoose:You need a Baby Pac Man or a Varkon in that spot.
A RFM or SWEP1 would probably fit too..
Quoted from Methos:Thanks to wildeboutpins for hooking me up with a game from my favorite band.[quoted image]
I didn't realize they had made a Spice Girls pin!!
Quoted from Methos:My tastes aren't that bad. It's actually a Milli Vanilli pin.
Ohhhh. How interesting.. A pin that you stand there and let someone else play for you and you take the credit!!!
Quoted from Methos:Exactly, but not before I publically state "We're better than the Beatles!"
And since the Beatles are bigger than god..
ROFL
Quoted from snyper2099:This is 100% NOT correct. I
can think of 3 other reasons just off the top of
my head.
Do tell!
Growing up I remember all games were 5-ball. Only once we started seeing modern SS and the rise of video games with 3 lives do I remember dropping to 3-balls. I can see 3 balls in order to shorten games and get more revenue. What other 3 reasons are you thinking of?
At home all my games are set to 3-balls. Obviously more difficult to accomplish things but what's the point of playing if you can beat it most of the time.
Quoted from RustyLizard:[quoted image]
Must be the UK version. Everything is reversed/wrong side
That or it's an ultra rare game by yllab.. lol
Quoted from EJS:EDIT: I think it's fixed can someone confirm please?
Looks ok to me!
Quoted from diamondfate9:Done enough research on Stranger Things and decided it was time to grab this LE before it's to late...very good decision...love every thing about this game ...good job Stern !
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
Congrats!! I like mine too
Now order a UV kit quick before they are unobtainium (they are only backordered right now)!
Quoted from Red_Devils:Now where on Gods green earth did you find that?
Nice pickup Sir
I think Stern moved some LEs about a 4-6 weeks ago. We received 4 in Canada, 1 of which is in my basement. #016
Quoted from diamondfate9:Nice find getting that low number...nice collection btw also
Thanks! Small collection but only what I want and like.
Nice lineup too btw!
Quoted from Pinkitten:Made the 9 hour round yesterday to bring home this classic! I’ve played this one very little, but a couple friends have this one very high on their keeper list. Had to grab this one, which spent 18-20 years in a home. Can’t wait to set it up tomorrow!
P.s. holy crap this thing is HEAVY.
[quoted image]
ColorDMD and Pinsound are worthy upgrades for this one.
Quoted from AlexRogan84:Cool looking game. Unique for sure and rare. Agreed on the jumbo DMD and great images. I just watched a gameplay video and it’s quite elaborate what they did with it.
Oddly enough, there is one of these games being advertised locally here in Ontario. It’s listed as being offered as a trade or an outright sale for the right offer. There’s no mention of price or value. Can you give me an idea what one of these should go for right now? Assume it’s in good condition and perhaps that the DMD is working correctly. That large and unusual sized DMD I would imagine is a pricey thing to replace if it is t working correctly. Thanks.
Boring gameplay(it's not a pinball) for a solo player. A bit like fooseball and dome hockey. Fun party game, dust collector otherwise. I know someone in Ontario who got one 6-7 months ago for less than 2k$CAD. These games are often parted out because the boards are worth more than the game. Same boardset as Big Bang Bar.
Things to look for:
DMD is unobtanium and has to be perfect.
Long distance optos at goal are often flaky and don't work correctly (detecting goals when they shouldn't).
Drop targets break all the time and are often replaced with wrong targets.
Quoted from Oneangrymo:Stranger things LE
Can't wait to play this one!
[quoted image]
LE #421?
Quoted from Oneangrymo:Im not sure the number, it doesnt say on the box.
OPEN THE BOX!!! lol
Quoted from Oneangrymo:It was 421 ! How did u know ?
Stern builds them in sequence with serial number. I figured it out compared to my serial number on my LE.
Quoted from SilverUnicorn:Yes, it came with the wall bracket, and I was SHOCKED to realize how heavy they were! I don't know how you did it yourself. I thought Pay Phones were heavy for what they were until I picked this thing up at the show. Not sure my wall will hold it. LOL
Chris
Quoted from ToucanF16:I hung mine on my wall 15 years ago. I doubt I can get it down now without breaking my back!
I hung mine alone too…. But I had help from my Escalera forklift attachment
Quoted from Pinkitten:Great trade. Nothing wrong with Stranger Things, but LOTR was Stern’s GOAT for years and still rocks. Great code, and Valinor is a legendary deep challenge. Enjoy and congrats.
Oh I’ve had it before. The gf is really enjoying pinball and she tried LOTR at a friend’s and really enjoyed it so that’s why it’s back in the small lineup.
Quoted from JStoltz:[quoted image]
Classic! Take a pic of a sign that prohibits the taking of pictures.. BWAHAHAHA
Made my day
Quoted from Charles_Kline:Having a wife who is more into pinball than jewelry makes it a lot easier. I'm thankful for that.
Same here! She's actually pressuring me to make the garage into an additional pinball room.
Quoted from OldHockeyGuy:Been trying to convince my wife that my beautiful Moulin Rouge would look great in our retro parlor room, but to no avail. It's a constant battle.
My brother is in the same boat. Pinball is a bad thing... According to his wife.
My soon-to-be wife on the other hand is pressuring me to convert the garage into a larger game room than what we have in the house(we can only fit 6 pins). I think we just nee d a bigger house lol.
Quoted from bicyclenut:Almost 8 hours of driving to pick this one up. Playfield looks brand new. Cabinet has a few scratches here and there but overall in great shape. I really needed a good cleaning. It had tons of burnt out bulbs, cobwebs inside and broken rubbers. Eyes didnt work on RED. Fixed all that and now I have a cherry game! I added a color DMD and all LED's
[quoted image]
RS is awesome with the updated code.
Quoted from bicyclenut:NVM...i know what your talking about now. Planetary Pinball is out of stock
There are authorized resellers of the 7.0 ROM. Dave Astill is one:
https://www.pinballrom.com/
Quoted from sulli10:all 3 of these are CQ quality.
Soooooo. That’s Collector Quality quality?
Quoted from dirkdiggler:Cool artwork. Interesting layout as well.
Quoted from NoQuarters:Never seen one of those. Lady Luck - Cool find. As another said, neat artwork and layout.
PF and BG are flawless on it. Seems like a hardtop as I doubt they made full pf mylars for protection back then.
It’s pretty interesting. I’m not a fan of EM’s. Got this for my wife who wanted a retro game. However i found that I do enjoy it. It’s simple without being easy. Just wish it had chimes instead of electronic sounds but it does have a bell for the high value shot.
Quoted from poppapin:Cool looking game, but what happened to that poor lockdown bar?
Wish I knew. Looks like a bullet hole doesn't it?
Looked up the Serial number database and this particular game was registered (with pic) some years ago in Canada and the lockdown bar was already damaged at that time. Looks like someone tried to pry it off instead of just drilling the coin door lock. Coin door has pry marks as well.
Unfortunately this is the uber rare "button style" lockdown bar. If I can't find an appropriate replacement I'll switch the game to the shark fin style lockdown bar and receiver.
Few other issues too. Glass is slightly too long and is plate glass. Wish I hadn't been a nice guy and given away my spare sheets of glass. Uggh.
Quoted from gdonovan:Knock out most of the "dent" have a welder fill the hole, grind, sand and polish.
The problem is access. The welded on back side is even more bent, twisted, and damaged. I’d have to find a way to separate the top from the back, undent them both, then re-weld them.
Maybe my son who is a welder has an idea on how to separate both parts without damage.
Quoted from gdonovan:They make tools for drilling spot welds, lots of ways to skin that cat if you have the time.
I can afford a replacement but I prefer the challenge of the fix. I will look into it. See how nice I can make it
Quoted from koji:Very nice.. it's amazing, I've seen a few of these, and the PF is always perfect.. that Euro finish really delivered.
I believe it's a hardtop. Or at the very least it's a full pf mylar. Not sure if the artwork would stay if I removed the mylar.
Quoted from Green-Machine:Just like your mom
Yep I’d say you have about the same sense of humor….. non existent.
Quoted from Ballypin:We have clearance Clarence, Roger, Roger, what's our Vector Victor ?
“Surely you can’t be serious”.
“I am, and don’t call me Shirley”
Quoted from AJGross:New project!
[quoted image][quoted image]
EM or SS?
I had a SS as my first ever pinball.
Quoted from Vespula:Awesome guys !! thanks very much for all these replies I do have to go up stairs!
It's one step up from the garage into the hallway.
Five steps to the landing, 90° turn and then 9 steps to the top! The shipping company was able to do it with a dolly for my GNR but he had a really nice stair climber dolly. And... he was country strong! That's not me.
I want to get it all prepared and pull somebody else in to help me with that part... An unsuspecting neighbor maybe.
[quoted image][quoted image]
An electric stair climbing dolly would be ideal - you could bring it in alone!
Just make sure your helper doesn’t pull the game off the dolly. Happens with inexperienced spotters when they try to help lift it up the stairs. Maybe put a strap near the bottom just in case.
Quoted from gdonovan:For roughly $3000 it should be!
But it would ‘t even move a WOZ or P3 game. The weight rating on that dolly is surprisingly low.
Quoted from gdonovan:Why on Earth would I take it apart?
Because it weighs 400lbs?
Quoted from cottonm4:Only 874 produced. I imagine you took some heat.
I know someone who has a decent Star Race back glass but I don't know anybody who is needing one.
I also have an amazing Star Race back glass sitting in a corner of my basement. Have tried selling it a few times but no interest at all. I won't give it away so that someone can wall mount it. I'll hang on my own wall first...
IMG_2613 (resized).JPGIMG_2615 (resized).JPGQuoted from KSUWildcatFan:That's such a beautiful art piece.
Can I hang it on my wall?
LOL
Jeez, what an AWESOME idea!!! LOL
Quoted from KSUWildcatFan:I know, I'm very inventive.
So, is that a yes?
That's soooo inventive I'll steal you idea and mount it here!!
Wish someone yould make Lit Frames for real backglasses. This one though is GIGANTIC (in BG terms). Stupid Gtb and their super duper extra widebody games...
My first NIB that I had delivered to the door, then I hand carried it to the basement

No other mods to speak of, I just put a shaker in it. I will probably get some side art decals and the premium translite.
I've had more than 15 Stern pins but this is the first Spike 1 that I have had.
Total and lifetime plays are resettable on Spike 1 games. Just FYI.
Quoted from Zartan:Lately I’ve only used the treadmill as a clothes drying rack!
Pretty sure that’s the most common use in the country lol
Quoted from pingod:Cactus Canyon LE has finally arrived.
Took quite a while to get them in Canada.
Beautiful game, topper is just cool.
Quoted from kool1:Stunning game - I may still jump on a CE someday.
CGC doesn't make CEs. SE, SE+, and LE are your levels of trim.
Quoted from northerndude:That’s “a house” ??!!
You've never seen a house with a school across the street?
Perhaps you're only looking on your phone and couldn't tell but that building isn't the house. There are no pics of the house.
Quoted from jrpinball:I never understood the need for two flippers on that game.
If the ball got served on the side without a flipper you'd understand quickly lol
Quoted from cottonm4:I'm not married. Space can always be found
Always funny when people associate marriage with nagging and/or loss of hobby.
I am married and out of space and my wife told me we are getting another pin, space be damned. We will get rid of the sofa before we get rid of games is what she said.
So there.
Quoted from jrcmlc:This is my wife as well, however after reading the threads about bribing wives and buying them shit so guys can keep machines and how to sneak machines in and hide the expenses and blah blah blah, we are in the tiny minority.
I have to admit my first marriage was all about sneaking games in and hiding true costs.
Soooo much easier now. I hide nothing, whether it's games or mods. She knows exactly how much we have spent in the hobby. She's not as enthusiastic as me and plays only 2-3 nights/week whereas I play every day. But she enjoys the hobby and it's made us meet new likeminded people which is always fun.
Also means Labyrinth is inbound. That's the one I don't have space for.
Quoted from BigalzPinz:You got lucky then my friend .....
Don't I know it!
She's lucky too... Her Labyrinth pinball was ordered in the first few seconds of the website going live
Quoted from CLEllison:Arguably one of the hardest (and frustrating) pinball machines ever made.
Hardest game released "At that time". There are way harder games that have been released since then. Owned it twice. First in the early 2000s I never got close to beating the game in 3 years. Got the game again during the pandemic. Beat it in 3 weeks. It's hard but I have seen way harder. Playing every day makes a difference as well. It's not instant gratification but you do get better over time.
WOZ and Jurassic Park come to mind just from my lineup. Getting to Somewhere Over the Rainbow on WOZ or When Dinos Ruled the Earth on JP is insanely harder. Neither of which I have been able to do. I've had my JP since 2019 and play it almost every day.
Quoted from Propsnsports:I usually love new pin day. I think this was the worst box I have gotten. Looks like it fell off the pallet, stacked something on top and tried to restrap it and shrink wrap it. Driver pre-warned me. He felt bad. We took a ton of pics and he help unbox it.
Dana
[quoted image][quoted image]
So how did the game do? Is it ok?
Quoted from transprtr4u:That's just balmy weather ....
With wind chill -50C here yesterday.
Nice to see the kids playing pinball , the next generation .. congratulations on EJ
[quoted image]
You should keep your fuel tank filled over half when it's that cold. Prevents condensation.
Quoted from Wmsfan-GAP:Is that an elevator down to your basement?
Woaaaah. Good eye! I want one!
Quoted from snyper2099:Just because something is typically sold at a specific price does not always mean that the person selling the item does not know it’s value. I told the seller it was worth way more and he said he already knew that and he refused to take more for it when I offered. He needed stuff gone that day and insisted that I was doing him a huge favor.
I go the same from time to time - although not pinball related. It's always funny to see the face of someone who is getting an awesome deal.
Quoted from Gotfrogs:I got my Jaws LE today!
[quoted image]
Don't you love it when they stack shit on there right where it says DO NOT STACK?
Quoted from cottonm4:Pinball people are a fickle lot.
fickle
adjective
US /ˈfɪk.əl/ UK /ˈfɪk.əl/
likely to change your opinion or your feelings suddenly and without a good reason:
She's so fickle - she's never been interested in the same man for more than a week!
It’s not what you think lol. CCr was unsellable in my area just too many around. SD not so much. Wait til fall and sell it. I need the space.
Quoted from mitchzizzle:Thats funny because in my area Id say the opposite - there are several people ready to move their SD and I dont see CC for sale at all. Id probably be down to trade my SD for a CC if the trade came up
Wow. Ottawa-Mtl it seems like everybody has one or has a buddy with one.
Quoted from epeabs:What a TOOL!!!
I’ve said it before and will say it again. There is no hope for humanity. What a freakin low-life.
Quoted from darkryder:Local couple in SF are moving out of state and needed their RFM gone. They’ve owned it since 2001 and it’s HUO. Paid $2200 and it works perfectly and just needed a good cleaning. It also came with a spare NOS playfield! Going to order some Titan rubbers, mirror balls, new left saucer and a few other things, but it doesn’t need much! I forgot how funny this game is, especially the Bill Clinton call outs, ha ha
Oh, and I also bought a mint NECA gremlin one of 500 while I was there for $300. This thing was too cool to pass up! My wife doesn’t like it, but she’ll come around. All in all, a good day!

Make sure to install the updated code from mypinballs.com.
It takes the game to such a fun level.
