Quoted from SilverUnicorn:Whoa! Is that a Shelby Charger, circa 1987?!
Chris
Shelby Rampage actually.
Quoted from MikeO:Did they even paint the instruction card holder?!
They painted everything! The only thing that is really a loss is the apron, when cleaning the paint off it took the original paint and bally logos with it. I'm looking for another nice apron now or at least a decal, without luck so far.
Quoted from dasvis:Too bad that Pinball rescue quit making Williams & Bally apron decals, they really do a nice job. We can thank PPS for that. If we are lucky(?), PPS will license Action pinball to make some substandard reproductions, as is their custom.
I sent them an e-mail asking if they could point me in the right direction of someone who could do them, I take that company doesn't exists? Well that sucks.
Quoted from o-din:Super K car!
No THIS is the super k-car.
10.4 at 132 mph
But back to our regular program!
Quoted from donnj:sure looks like Englishtown not Cecil
You sir are a steely eyed missile man and 100% correct. I salute you! And up vote!
Here is a Cecil shot.
Quoted from emkay:Been a busy weekend for haulin' pins.
I thought I had another one today but after conferring with colleagues and doing some research a flag was thrown on the play.
Pity.
Quoted from ejacques:It's a mess. .... but complete!
That playfield looks interesting to play!
Pictures of the interior of Lucky Hand and Ship Ahoy are in the "show us your EM games" thread, sorry about that. Had to step out to an appointment with my daughters doctor and clicked on the wrong link.
Ship Ahoy now running at 100%!
Be a few days before Lucky Hand can be looked it, have work to do tomorrow..
P.S. SN is scrubbed out as someone posted the SN from one of the games I'm restoring over at the SN Database without permission for doing so or use of photo which wasn't cool.
Quoted from dasvis:Nice looking pin. Klondike is the first pin that I remember playing on location as a kid, fun game & I could actually win credits on it!
Sadly it will be a few more weeks before I can get to it, working on 4 pins now simultaneously!
Grand Tour is stalled till the playfield is re-cleared, Lucky Hand got sold and I have to finish installing elastics, new plastics and setting it up for free play for the new owner, might have Heatwave stenciled this weekend and finishing up the last of the mechanical issues on Moon Shot and it needs minor cosmetic touchups.
So no playing with Klondike... though I did look at it quick. It does power up and resets but has some reset issues. Acts like there isn't enough voltage to operate the ball kicker or has a very week coil. Looking under the hood I see some monkey has been in there so I'm going to have to go over it contact by contact and make sure everything is set as it left the factory first..
Quoted from xTheBlackKnightx:Highly uncommon, borderline rare game now, Bazaar (Bally, 1966).
Reminds me a lot of Grand Tour.
Quoted from Barkz:Truer words have never been spoken, Colson hit the nail on the head.
Bought my second pin 22 days after my first. Couldn't even make it a month. You are not alone haha.
I started 3 months ago, 14 pins.
Quoted from jsa:Holy crap. That's a seriously impressive 3 months. How do you get them?
Craigslist, local forum, word of mouth and in one case arcade close out sale.
Quoted from RonSS:That's impressive, and frightening at the same time.
I have still been scouring CLIST every morning. ..... and night. You know, just in case someone is selling for pennies on the dollar.
I've only got room for 1 though, ok probably 2. Yeah, I could definitely fit 2, maybe 3 if ......
I was never one to do things by halves.
We have moved from the first stage "ok we like pinball lets pick some up" to identifying what we like about various games and looking for pins similar features.
Current line up is Night Rider, Ding Dong, CC Moon Shot, Olympic Hockey, Touchdown, Hi-Flyer, Ship Ahoy and Time Zone.
In the workshop:
Grand Tour and Heatwave (getting repaints and in case of GT full resto)
Knockout (selling to friend after tune up)
Lucky Hand (sold and being shipped this week)
Orbit (up and running but need to tune and evaluate)
Klondike (been monkeyd with, need to diag and evaluate)
Night Rider and Olympic Hockey are the clear favorites for 2x player while my wife likes Hi-Flyer and Ding Dong for single play. I lean towards Touchdown and Moon Shot and our designated resident Gottlieb Ship Ahoy. The CC Moon Shot has a charm I can't put my finger on and a tough game with those 2" flippers and wide spacing. Touchdown with its speed and voracious out lanes is favorite and very much like the Hockey game which sizzles too.
Time Zone isn't going to make the cut I think, just one of those games that looks cool and has some cool features and theme but isn't gelling for either of us. As you can tell we like EM's very much, though I'm keeping an eye out for an SS title and even looked at a few wood rails to round things out.
I'm considering opening a part time business doing repair of EM's here in SE CT, no one else offers the service and my automotive restoration and troubleshooting skill set is serving me well in this venue.
Edit:
Technically I have had 16 pins in the last 3 months, 17 if you extend out another month to the first one. 3 have been sold or traded.

Quoted from dirkdiggler:Drooling! Can we see play field pics?
Documented home owned since 1995, came with receipt from operator it was purchased from.
I actually like the sound effects and music on this one, have to see how it plays after cleaning. Back glass is MINT!
Quoted from Colsond3:Thing looks great, and awesome that it still has original mylar on the main center of the playfield.
Starting to take a shine to it.
Tonight replaced a bunch of bulbs, fixed a bad coil connection, replaced a bad spring, repaired a bad post, replaced the flipper shoes and elastics, cleaned up one of the display connectors (displayed trash every once in awhile), cleaned and adjusted some roll over contacts, repaired the back glass puck (it did not like to return to the bottom) and then rattled of a dozen or two games.
I kind of like it; The electronic sounds are appropriate for a hockey game (crowd noise, whistles, organ music, buzzer) and some of the shots difficult but you make them just often enough to keep it interesting. The high score that is saved on is in the 3,000,000 range, the best I have been able to do at this point is 700,000 but I'm learning the table.
Home yesterday actually:
Replace a bad coil, cleaned and lubricated all stepper units, adjusted/clocked and tightened allen screws, fixed roto stop, replaced bulbs, fixed grounds on sockets, cleaned and adjusted scoring reels, stripped and polished playfield, repaired popper with bad switch, cleaned and adjusted all relays and contacts, washed and vacuumed cabinet, replaced blown fuse for bank reset, polished legs, replaced elastics, polished plastics, setup for "free play," fixed broken solder connection for main bell, printed out instruction card, photoshop'ed mask for ball count and game over.
Plays GREAT.
Quoted from nascarrey:Pulled this Night Rider out of a basement in Chicago...someone hacked a connector on it years ago.....
One of our favorite games here, EM version.
Quoted from nascarrey:Good to know-seeing that you have 15 games, that's surprising! Cant wait to get it cleaned up!
Just a fun, fast paced EM with multi-player which really brings out the competitiveness in visitors here and it does not hurt that it sounds great too! Toss up between Williams Olympic Hockey and Night Rider which one slings the ball fastest around the table.
Quoted from wolfy:Nice original cabinet on IJ. Looks much better with slight fade than new decals. Mine is very similar to yours. Enjoy one of the greatest pins of all time.
Been thinking of picking one up to round out our little collection. A little bit of everything but a wood rail and I have looked at more than a few of them too. Missed out on a Williams Wonderland which would have been perfect.
Quoted from porkcarrot:Nothing too amazing, but this week I brought home my first two EM machines. Gottlieb Mustang and Super Soccer.
Congratulations!
Even though I'm of a "certain age" who grew up playing video games in arcades (and very few pinball games) I find restoring and playing 65-77 EM's to be a very enjoyable experience.
Quoted from MiamiRedSkin:This is my first real dip into "older games," and I'm scared it will turn into a new obsession.
Older games he says, chortle!
Enjoy! I'm looking for a few "newer" games myself in the late 70's to early 90's range.
Gary
Quoted from RonSS:A threesome? Nice!
I was tempted to try and make it a quartet but decided not to push my luck! Enough projects on my plate for now.
Quoted from Colsond3:Bus Stop looks nice man! You know you like the LED selection in the Star Action...
If you want any more keychains let me know. And tell Faith better luck next time on Phantom LOL.
Bus Stop is not bad, has had some minor touch up of the play field but not terrible. As Todd states, the scoring motor just cycles. I'm looking forward to playing it, looks fun!
Star Action needs some love, was tinkering around with it last night. Typical Williams chimes need a tune up, one of the poppers got stuck time to time and the scoring is a bit wonky. Very similar PF to 1974 CC Hi-Flyer (the upper is identical) with the only real difference being Hi-Flyer has a spinner in place of the SA post setup. I do like a few of the LED and my son remarked it was very bright while playing, I'll have to find out from you which LED's were used. We will get it sorted out fairly quick.
Big Ben going to need the most help. Found a blown fuse and it will reset (which is amazing in itself) but nothing else going on (no power to flippers, poppers and targets) scoring motor sounds like it is grinding which is what might have popped the fuse.
Again thanks for your hospitality and always welcome to stop by if in the area for a cup'o joe and run off a few games in our little EM haven.
Gary
Quoted from spfxted:Excellent!!
Sign me up!
I'm looking for a Williams woodrail if it becomes available.
Quoted from dirtbag66:And lots of facial hair!
My dad always told me "facial hair is a sign of laziness".
Words to live by!
I have a finely trimmed beard thank you, takes effort to keep it that way.
Buying and selling has slowed down to nothing this month, I assume normal through the summer? Had one or two possible pickups... but you know how sellers on CL can be unreliable at times.
Item for sale -> ok I'll buy at the listed price -> radio silence.
wth.
Quoted from crosbyjack:Freedom '76 and Magic City '65 middle pop. 300$ total, three miles from my house via online auction . Freedom works after new fuse housings and magic city is badly planked so it will be a demonic re-theme
Almost had a Magic City a few months ago- I was signed up for an Ebay live auction and had made an initial bid and for some reason my account became "unapproved for bidding" during the last 5 minutes of auction.
I was pissed off, phone calls were made, promises of investigation of the matter.. and nothing. No surprise. I'm sure the item is sitting over a friends of the auction dealer.
Quoted from RonSS:Yeah, it's funny, many of the coveted pins do little to move me. .
I gave Abracdabra a spin at Pintastic, I fail to see what all the fuss was about, same for Lucky Hand.
On the other hand Domino is a little regarded pin and I find mine to be a blast and it gets played at least 2-3 times when I step in the shop.
Quoted from Pecos:No pins all summer and now two pins in three days. When it rains it pours. I am really curious to see how these slot type reels are integrated into the rule-set. Everyone likes slot machines, right? Some pinball purists won't agree with me but I won't mind waiting for the reels to stop spinning - or do you keep playing while the reels are spinning. Lots to explore with this one.Love these 70's Williams pins!
I had that one, they don't spin but advance just one position like scoring reels per ball strike on the targets/roll overs.
The game is ok. As the reels advance the collectable bonus changes up/down depending on the value displayed.
This one has a happy home now in Virginia, guy was really excited to buy it as he use to play it when he was a kid.
What more could you ask for?
Quoted from yzfguy:Damn... That space Odyssey backglass looks great! Mine is all flaky....
Mine was a little, touched up and sealed.
The red is really faded and the Ruushin capsule not in great shape but with some green LED not so bad.
Fun game, it is in our long term line up.
Quoted from Grayman_EM:Looks great! I like the older unknown pins that I have never seen. Should clean up great also.
Same- Love 60's Bally and Williams single player in particular.
Quoted from ZNET:You're on a roll, Colson.
Getting bad as me.
It has been suggested I move down to Jersey as I have been there so often or passed through in my to-ing and fro-ing collecting pins.
Quoted from kidchrisso:I have an ad up...trying to source an original leg if anyone has any leads...
With a good vise you should be able to straighten it out with ease.
Quoted from ajfclark:Also super useful as a reference when you pull a machine apart and are thinking "Where the fuck did this bit go?".
You have no idea how true this is.. I pulled apart my Grand Tour to redo the playfield and it was months before it returned. If not for the same year Bus Stop that was here I'm not sure GT would be assembled at the moment.
Quoted from Colsond3:One player? I did grab it from Gary when he was swinging down by the area. It is intermittently jumping the second and fourth player, but otherwise plays perfect. Might be the stepper unit. It's definitely a players game by the playfield and BG condition, but cab is really nice and it's a fun EM.
About time you set that up! It is a very fun game to play, great seeing it setup again.
I'll give you a shout later, need to decide what to do about Bus Stop and Ship Ahoy.
Quoted from freddy:Just walked this one down stairs so light no need for a dolly !
Is that the one that was for sale on CL in PA? I can across it a few times in my search for a Williams wood rail but a little bit further than I wanted to drive.
Looks great!
Quoted from bluespin:Any pictures of the six pins in one trip?
He got me beat, did three at once on two different trips. I bet I could have done four or five tops.
Quoted from Mopar:I've done 4 many times with a 6' box.
Well I would have done four if there had been four to buy or I had sold four
I was really tempted to buy that forth but left before Colson could convince me.
Quoted from pinheadpierre:Aaaand on the opposite end of the spectrum, 1.3 Space Missions. My neighbor says I don't buy pinball machines. I buy do-it-yourself pinball kits. This definitely falls into that category. Two cabinets (one toasted/one decent), two bottom boards (mostly complete), one decent playfield, one head (complete and pretty intact) and and one flaky backglass. Should be an interesting journey to make a functional game out of this collection of parts!
Thanks to Cheddar for facilitating the transaction!
I have a Space Odyssey, fun solid game with lots to shoot at.
Spent a lot of time trying to make the chimes better would be my only gripe, worst era for Williams when it comes to chime quality.
First pin purchase in well over a year as we were working on downsizing the EM fleet and diversifying. Added a solid state to the lineup and keeping an eye out for a second. It has some minor issues (broken popper ring and a driver issue for one of the lights) but seems pretty fun and the siren is a hoot.
20190323_220347_resized_1 (resized).jpgQuoted from erico201:Today was a good day! I picked up a couple of great EMs that are in perfect working order and decent condition! Strange World is added to my collection while Solar City is going to malibu-ss which is great because I’ll get to play it!
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
Strange World looks like one of those layouts I find interesting, hope I get the chance to try one someday.
Quoted from alexmogil:Hot Shots is a shooter’s dream. The music is hilarious!
My wife came home from work last night at 9:30 and played a single game, she took to it instantly.
I was thinking this was going to be a fairly short term game, now I'm not so sure!
Quoted from Colsond3:Definitely Mick...awesome original Marvel art on this pin. Don’t see these down under? I’ve had quite a few of them pass through my hands.
I should be able to make one pretty nice one out of the two, and I’ll pass the other one onto someone else who wants it.
Were these the two down at Allentown?
Quoted from Colsond3:A second one in addition to the project one you’ve been working on?
Yes.
So I could speed up diagnostics and it came with a spare original backglass, which the project needed. I didn't want a reproduction as they are plastic and don't have mirroring.
The project is now operating at 95%, all I need now is to either replace the two lower dead displays or upgrade to LED units and there is a fussy connector under the playfield that causes two standups to register erratic. I'm going to re-pin that connector this week.
Darn funny hearing them run side by side!
20190519_132824_resized (resized).jpgQuoted from JethroP:Looks like it has a blown flux capacitor.
Just a fuse!
I'm on the edge of ordering new LED displays for the project one, waiting to hear back from one or two folks first.
Quoted from bluespin:Is your couch comfortable? I think you'll find out tonight....
My wife is awesome, she comes with me on pin road trips and enjoyed the hell out of Allentown.
She would be tapping her foot waiting to get the box open.
Quoted from Matthew2000tx:Drove 8 hours to get this EM that needs a little work. It’s my first pin. (Second if you count the one we are having professionally reconditioned). I wanted to Learn how to work on EMs and this was too good of a deal to pass over.
It lights up but just clicks I think the reset relay is the issue...but need to drive the 8 hours back home and get it in the garage to trouble shoot
Chicago Coin Dolphin[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
If the score motor is just running and running check the switch stacks for the score reels first, 9 times out of 10 there is your problem. In one of the pictures you posted it shows one reel not at perfect zero location and I'd manual bump that one first to see if it resets.
If all the reels are not at zero, the motor will continue to run trying to reset the reels to zero position and you will go no further till it does.
Quoted from northerndude:Obviously my favourite place to post!! Brought home this players cond. This afternoon after a 300+ km detour on the way home from a provincial track meet my boys had. Just fit below the roll cover in my truck with it laying on its side. Had to remove the aluminum posts from the roll top to fit under with pressure on the cover which was perfect.
[quoted image]
This is without a doubt the funnest pin I have played to date; the theme, music, call outs and EM chimes just work.
Quoted from oilspot:I know , I know... but the price was right, REAL right! Needs some work, this pic was after scraping 20 years of attic dust, cobwebs, dead flies and pigeon poop off it.[quoted image]
We have one, fun game! Don't get crazy on the angle, I think 5.5 to 6 degrees is in the manual. Too steep and it throws some of the shots off.
One of these days going to try the later roms which starts off game with single ball and you have to get all the drop targets to start multi-ball.
Quoted from oilspot:This one is non working at present, and being my first Gottlieb I have a bit of a learning curve before I heat up the iron. I like the playfield layout but never liked the photo translites Gottlieb used through these years. In fact, Speedo Man in the middle of the pic kinda creeps me out, I may change the translite image eventually!
Ok, anything I can do to help let me know.
Quoted from Kingpin22:Just added this beauty! Had to go all the way to Quantum City Babee but well worth the trip, what a well made machine, great job to the JJP team, this Babee is a masterpiece![quoted image]
Played it for the first time this weekend, thought it was interesting and worth playing again.
Initial impression was pretty good.
Quoted from OTTOgd:Nice classic Sega arcade cab.
Sega/Gremlin actually.
Fascinating history on Gremlin Industries if you get the chance, started off in the very early 70's before teaming up with Sega and vanishing in the arcade crash of '83.
Quoted from poppapin:My wife actually worked at Gremlin when we lived in San Diego back in the 70's assembling video games!
I have a Moon Cresta and found this site while doing some research;
http://allincolorforaquarter.blogspot.com/
Lot of history about Gremlin there.

I have a Defender in my repair queue, maybe get to it this winter.
Quoted from Dallas_Pin:‘HUO’ Bally Playboy with custom instruction cards ... probably just a fuse will get it going. [quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
I have ones that were done back in the day on Night Rider with a typewriter, just something cool about it that someone took the time to do it on 3 x 5 card stock.
Quoted from RonSS:Met a really nice guy today. Pinball brings out the good in people.[quoted image]
A-go-go, very nice.
Quoted from RonSS:Picked this up yesterday with a fellow Pinsider. The price was right and the labor free.
No glass, or keys.
Backglass looks great.
I think the cab will clean up nicely.
Playfield is what it is, but some cleaning and a coat of wax wouldn't hurt.
Listed as non-working, turns out the owner didn't realize there was a power switch on the bottom.[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
I saw that the other day, too busy to even think about another pickup. Nice!
Quoted from RonSS:You have been busy! My wife wishes you had picked this up instead though
Too busy! Now that Melody is ready for play action I need to shuffle around the game room and get back to Hearts and Spades. Will be my first attempt at shooting webbing on a cabinet. There is a Bally solid state after that...
Quoted from RonSS:Yeah, so I started with SS and DMD, and now I've got 3 EMs and no SS or DMDs! They're a little addictive, and cheap!
We have a mix of EM and SS, all are fun to play! Something about a good EM play and sound that just can't be replicated with an SS. Ship Ahoy is an excellent EM that sounds great! We had one in our collection for a time.
Tip having owned one- Do NOT install LED or 47's in the WOW locations. Gottlieb uses a resistor there and it will burn out the bulb if the wrong one is used. I have some free resistors if you need to change the resistance value to run a 47. I think I purchased a bag of 10.
Quoted from yzfguy:2 1/2 hours does not a trek make.
Someone say Trek?
20190628_175929_resized_1 (resized).jpgQuoted from yzfguy:LMAO, hey I drove to Long island last week for TNA..... LONG Island!!!!!
I hear ya. Coming from Eastern CT via I-95 LI is its own hell to get too and back unless you go at 4AM.
Grabbed at least three pins from da'Island.
Quoted from AlexF:Love my Kickoff. I'm on my second one.
Touchdown!
d1668069dd7d9b8a422e06dff5d7597724351d0d (resized).jpgQuoted from epeabs:Nice grab Ryan. Such a nuclear fast game.
One of the few new titles I'd consider getting.
Quoted from Murphdom:Wow that’s dirty. What did you use to try and clean it?
Citrus strip!
Quoted from MikeO:The TA and a scotchbrite pad did this much tonight. I used Mean Green for a bit of it.
The green paint is thinner than the brown and not holding up as well but I’m impressed that it is having this large an impact.
Thanks for the guidance.[quoted image]
Scotchbrite is rather aggressive, better off trying steel wool first or magic eraser.
Quoted from play_pinball:Is it floating or did you join the EM club when this fell out of the sky? What is going on in this pic?!
On a pin mover my guess.
Welcome to the club! EM's have a charm all their own.
Quoted from starfighter:Capt. Picard & his girlfriend Genie
This one was a tight squeeze.[quoted image]
Genie is a big girl!
Quoted from dc2010:Sooooo.....what's up with the De Star Trek 25A
????....color me intrigued!
I saw that too, would look nice next to this and I'm going to York =)
20190808_174435_resized (resized).jpgQuoted from PinballManiac40:4 hours away at 2nd cousin's wedding yesterday, my oldest brother tells me of an older SS pin at an Antique store that he sound early that morning. We left the reception a bit early to check it out. It was labeled with '$250 firm' but walked out with it for $50 plus $4.20 in local sales tax.
MPU board has battery corrosion, especially around the ground plane and currently it does not boot. I'm going to start with sanding the corrosion, replace damaged parts, and fixing damaged traces to see if I can revive this board. The front cabinet has some 'water' damage, but I have no doubt I can find another good used donor cabinet. The backglass has very few minor scratches and the playfield is decent for its age.
Score! Playfield is very nice for that title, I have the EM version. Fun-fun game with great chimes!
Quoted from Colsond3:So.....got abducted during an early a.m. trip this morning. I voluntarily requested additional probing, so the little green guys and gals gave me a nice little parting memento once they were all done...a very nice SI.
Sweet example. Very nice cab, and only very minimal insert wear on the PF, both infrequent to come across on this title.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
Had a chance to pick one up here and there and then I remind myself that without exception every single wide body game I have played has been a snooze fest for some reason.
Quoted from Colsond3:And pitch has to be at least 14.5 if not higher. I like a few, including this, Future Spa and Embryon.
Not like I can change the pitch of machine while at a show! That would be rude.
Quoted from Colsond3:Sure you can. Open the ol’ PinGuy app and throw your phone right on the glass. Quick duck, crawl and lift and the game’ll be playin like a charm.
[quoted image]
No can do, I feel creepy opening a coin door to add credits when at a show. Not my machine, I no touchy.
I'm willing to be proven wrong on the widebodies though, have to swing by your place and give it a go
Not going to name any titles I have tried, someone will be offended for sure.
I like'em tight and fast, the more crazy the action the better.
Quoted from dasvis:Space invaders has such an awesome backglass.
I like the whole theme and art, awesome looking pin.
Quoted from RWH:IMHO most wide bodies don't play well due to not being setup correctly, my Circus is a prime example, set on a 5 degree slope it is slow and listless with the ball floating around, but at 6 degrees it plays like a beast, fast despite a more open PF and it really compliments the variety of shots you need to make.
Slow and listless describes things well.
Shows are such a crapshoot sometimes, sellers should take more care in setup. I'm assuming you want to make a good impression on a buyer.
I'll play a game that has some much slope you can't get the ball up a ramp and the next one will be set so shallow that the ball needs a GPS while traveling from point A to B.
Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Played a Future Spa that was like that and I wanted to like the title, very cool backglass animation too.
Quoted from dothedoo:Every game has its sweet spot. I’m not a believer in setting the game where the manufacturer recommends. That’s for consistency in the arcades. Experiment....find the slope that plays best for you.
I find that setting them on or near what the manufacture recommends is pretty much the sweet spot. Been a few games where the angle has been wrong several shots could not be made as designed.
Quoted from dothedoo:My friend and I decided some people set their games so shallow that players will walk away after the first ball, minimizing the amount of play and reducing the wear and tear on their game. That’s akin to bringing dead games just to get free admission to the show.
There was one restored EM game at Pintastic set so shallow it was dreadful. After 2 balls I was done, it was unplayable.
Quoted from RonSS:I LOVE Craigslist! It's like a box of chocolates!
lol! That is one way to put it.
Quoted from jimgravina:Thanks guys! Also brand new to the forum and the whole pinball world. Played a few games in the arcade as a kid but that's about the extent of it. And yeah, this is really just part of a Back To The Future collection piece...but I guess time will tell!
Someone say Time.. Machine?
Careful they start breeding.
20190826_143215_resized (resized).jpg
Quoted from woody76:Has great ramp shots. I have only seen 2 ever and the second is in my house. Got to play a super nice one a few years ago and have wanted one ever since. With what I paid for it and the $600 in parts I just ordered plus several hundred more when freeplay gets the ramps done I will probably break even on it one day if I sell.
Been one on the PA/NJ CL for a few weeks.
Quoted from bluespin:$3,195 and the ad has been up for over a month.
nh.craigslist.org link
Not that one, this was down in the Philly area. Been in my search results there for a few weeks. The NH unit has much better pics.
Here is the link to the Philly unit, gone now.
Quoted from transprtr4u:Spock from Star Trek... bowling
What is seen cannot be unseen! lol!
Works of art.
Quoted from Yoko2una:We were digging DP and JP2, but the boy (he’s 10) really wanted a music pin. Careful what you wish for...
[quoted image]
We played ACDC for the first time up at Fun World in NH this weekend, damn near one of the funnest new Sterns I have played.
Quoted from Colsond3:Probably $1,150. That’s what I’m into it for. I’ve gotten a few PM’s and a buddy texted me about it already but nothing definite.
Quoted from Tbpilot78:She sure looks sweet, good game
Dumb luck to be at the right place and time. Just have to rebuild sound board and it looks solid.
Quoted from Tbpilot78:Easy enough, from the pics it looks very well kept
All the lights work, not a single one burned out which has never happened! Mylar on the playfield, backglass is great, minor scars on the cabinet and coin door. Fix the sound board and clean & adjust some switches and it will be in the lineup. Someone gave it some attention which is a nice change of pace.
Quoted from Max_Power:Is that the Embryon I buy pinballs had for York, I was #3 in line for it. I also missed out on a Xenon he had. I'm never quick enough on my pm's.
Embyon intrigues me, have to give it a try again next time I'm down at Colson's. Only had a chance to play one and it was sluggish and always like to give a fair shake.
Quoted from psd4me:How are you liking it?
Initial is good, only played 2 games before heading into house, brutal drive back. Great DE humor, look forward to digging into it in a few weeks. Need to wrap up Grand Tour. Nice to meet you Mike! Great show, I like it.
Quoted from psd4me:And made a trade with gdonovan for a Gottlieb Hots Shots.
Already fully LED'd Secret Service, what a light show!
20191013_061557(0)_resized (resized).jpgQuoted from woody76:DE had some of the best light shows ever. I like Time Machine as well.
I think SS might have a better show than TM, I think I had triggered a jackpot shot and for a second or two everything went nuts and I lost track of the balls.
Time Machine is why I sought out a Secret Service even though I never played one, the gameplay, audio call outs & sound and lighting are excellent.
Quoted from Nihonmasa:Great game!
Tough game. Played once or twice at The Sanctum and it laughed at me. Have to give it another go and try to get the hang of it.
Quoted from Colsond3:Loaded up and heading home![quoted image]
Loading up... and Home.
20191023_175026_resized (resized).jpg20191023_201736_resized (resized).jpgQuoted from mark532011:That on-beam has such a strange backglass. Do those blank rolls of color light up?
Yes, they have ships the progress across each strip.
Backglass light animation shows space station and space ship traveling on any of 4 Beams. Getting space ship to dock with space station on same Beam awards points and lights center target for Special. The playfield Beam-O-Meter allows player to track this progress without watching backglass.
image-21 (resized).jpgQuoted from Keroppi:After ~20 pins, my first EM, first zipper flipper, and first NLA parts.[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
Contact PBR for the coils, he will have what you need. Burnt coils not uncommon as the mech will bind up, get stuck and coil will stay on to fusion happens.
Quoted from epeabs:No doubt, Allan is a savior. Glad you got "S" back with a Phantom to keep him company.
Phantom was keeping Xenon company but I think she got tired of the screaming on the drains. Fun pin though, great sound.
20191012_124650 (resized).jpgQuoted from Slogan1111:Finally made it to the thread! BH from today's travels & 8 Ball from Thursday.
Still vaguely interested in a Black Hole, even though the two examples I tried left me cool. Need to find someone with a nice one and put some time on it and see if worth adding to the line up. Haunted House is fun now that it is running proper, has good angle on it and tuned up.
Colson already trying to get it back
20191102_201039_resized (resized).jpg
Quoted from Spyderturbo007:I grabbed this Saturday. I played it for about an hour, started a game, closed the coin door and it's now dead.
[quoted image]
[quoted image]
Dirty contact on the slam switch, right next to the door lock if memory serves.
Quoted from Colsond3:Good sir, I would never...ok, I probably would.
Hahahha. We'll trade something when the Mrs. gets bored with it.
Quoted from RC_like_the_cola:Brought home an early production Bally Star Trek last night.[quoted image]
Fun game!
Quoted from SBrothers:Picked up this beauty from the Stern factory itself this week!
Don’t give two shakes what the haters say about this title...I think it rocks!
I played one at The Sanctum in CT, I thought it was a fine playing pin. I didn't get more than 2 or 3 games on it but came across as pleasant to play.
Quoted from wylcot:Super happy to finally find myself a Stargate.
Another pin I have to try again. Tried one at a show and could not get into it.
Quoted from TractorDoc:As a fan of the show this one has been on my wish list. So far it has not disappointed!
Another pin I'd like to have based on theme, but every time I have played one at a show have been disappointed. I'll have to pick one up someday and put some serious time playing and see if I'm just playing some poorly tuned examples.
Quoted from mbaumle:Another super late night run, and the 3rd pin pickup this month. Early production Taxi with Marilyn artwork. I was out of room 2 games ago, but I couldn't pass this deal up.
[quoted image]
That would look great next to my Star Trek
Quoted from Murphdom:How does the carryover feature work with scoring from player to player with only one set of reels?
I think the reels are computer controlled steppers.
Quoted from finnflash:My first multi pin grab. All hockey![quoted image]
Both are good games, the Williams EM is awesome though.
Quoted from sixtyfourbits:Please excuse the messy garage. I Just picked this up yesterday evening. Was a price I couldn’t say no to, and I think my kids will really enjoy it. It plays great, minus the accelerator at the moment. I’ll have to take a better look at that this week.
[quoted image]
If you need them, PBR has the rubbers for the accelerator, I have heard people using rebound bumpers with success as well. Making sure the ramp is lined up proper will ensure a good hit. Great game if you like drop targets! I traded mine for a DE Secret Service.
Quoted from MikeO:I’m betting it’s a sample. Looks too good not to be factory painted.
That looks like a factory paint job.
Quoted from Peruman:Picked this game on Sunday morning. This is my first four-player EM, the other two I restored were single-player. Playfield and backglass are in good shape. Cabinet needs quite a bit of repair work.
Alberto[quoted image][quoted image]
Where did you pick it up? I sold a Little Chief to couple back in 2017 and I wonder if the same unit. I'll check the pictures I have when I get off work.
Quoted from the96stang:I can confirm it's not that one.
Thanks! The one I sold is what started this mess, lol.
Quoted from rollitover:And don't forget your lifelines.
If necessary "phone a friend."
I have a few stashed at work, lol.
Been looking for a Firepower, Blackout or Firepower II for early Williams SS representation and today Blackout won.
Very nice playfield, new PinScore displays, rebuilt sound board, so-so backglass and one lamp out, the blackout insert ironically. Just a diode!
Quoted from bicyclenut:Got 2 projects today[quoted image]
Melody or Sing Along? Looks like at least a partial repaint at one time, great title.
20190714_163802_resized (resized).jpgQuoted from bicyclenut:Mines a Sing Along....Melody is great too
Some tried to repaint the cabinet, but didnt do a very good job[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
I have some sample jars of paint if you need them, took the head down to Home Depot and had it scanned so I could do repairs.
Free for the cost of shipping.
20190713_171727_resized (resized).jpgQuoted from Colsond3:Made a trip earlier today too. And now I finally have something to use this freaking orange shooter rod on that’s been sitting around for two years. [quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
You know where the home for System 80 is, bring it! HAHAHA.
Be looking at Lizard before the week is out, Blackout almost done and FG is going to back burner for awhile now that it is flipping. I have parts to buy!
Quoted from ClassicTAB:[quoted image]
As a fellow Secret Service owner I approve! Fun game with great humor and light show.
Quoted from RandyW:I am bringing this bad boy home tonight. [quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
Properly setup a fast and fun game!
Quoted from Scotty_K:Question: Is that backglass readily available, or is that a custom job? I think it looks much better than the original.
I saw another one not that long ago that had the backglass with a "mirror universe" theme; that was very nice too.
CPR or Marco sells them.
Quoted from Colsond3:Brought this oddball back home. Thanks to gdonovan for the repairs and getting the game up and running. Glad to be flipping it. Quirky-ass sounds on this one.
And snagged a new repro Gorgar glass.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
Quoted from RonSS:Are you almost out of room?
Why you ask, something for sale?
Has been a flood of riches the last month, need to stop looking.
Quoted from Zarklin:Couple days late but we knocked two keepers off the list over the weekend. [quoted image]
Keeping in eye out for a Data East JP for my kid, on the want list. One of these days..
Quoted from Colsond3:He doesn’t like any of the other 38 games you’ve brought home lately?
He really likes dinosaurs.
Quoted from freddy:Then he will like the new Hot Wheels.
There will be no new Sterns in this house till they get their act together.
Quoted from SKWilson:You're in luck since Hot Wheels is by API.
Who the hell is API?
Quoted from bluespin:American Pinball, the company that made Houdini and Octoberfest
Thanks for the clarification, have not been following the Hot Wheels thread and just assumed it was Stern popping out another one.
Quoted from Zablon:Go catch it. Maybe you won't have to listen to anyone worry about that 'fake flu' anymore. If you aren't part of the solution, you're the problem. It's reality. Sorry all those deaths are getting in the way of your good time.
Actually I'm in a high risk group, so not an academic exercise.
Take it to one of the other threads, there is other things going on in the world besides this virus. And they have appropriate areas for the discussion .
Quoted from PinDeLaPin:Wasn't even really looking right now for anything as i'm consumed with my ball bowler project. However, when opportunity knocks you open the damn door. Ot's a 1963 Midway Duck Hunt and you don't see this one very often and it's about 90% functional. Cosmetically it's a little rough but will become a good project when I get to it. Definitely gonna need a coin door for it so if anyone has one that will work send me a pm.[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
I'm going to end up getting a gun game one day, just not yet.
Quoted from MrMikeman:I owned an early Laser War for a while. Had the blue prototype MPU in it. No schematics (board was slightly different than version 1). Never got the board to work but got a replacement. Lightning fast game. Well done and enjoy!
Home!
Long day today, over 12 hours on the road.
Quoted from Colsond3:Haha. The person had started a restoration, and gave up. All the parts in boxes, and a good amount of new parts as well. Projects are good at a time like this.
I'd love to put that back together
Quoted from rollitover:Well, we know he's in Massachusetts
but something tells me he's not after an education.
Quoted from rollitover:Nice!
Fun game for sure. Congrats!
Got it for my boy, joined the army this year and still crazy about dinosaurs.
Good run today, 5 1/2 hours to Maine and back.
Quoted from ibuypinballs:I would never drive with the head up. I would remove it and strap it to the body or remove it completely.
Can't be helped
Quoted from yzfguy:It was welded on?
No key, spent a half hour picking the lock to no avail.
I live 5 minutes away.
20200526_190835 (resized).jpgQuoted from RonSS:Looks nice GDon, I've always been a sucker for that backglass.
The mirroring is awesome, does not show up well in pictures. Backglass is just starting to flake, will seal this weekend.
Quoted from MikeO:With the head on????
I would have driven home, gotten a drill, and came back and drilled it out
My back hurts just thinking about it.
I'm paying for it this morning.
Frankly with the neighborhood it was adjacent too I just wanted to get out of there and the lady who owned it was... slightly off. Glad to have both my kidneys still and not wake in a bathtub full of ice this morning with them missing.
Quoted from dothedoo:Is that a reflection or is there broccoli under the glass?
Reflection of some sort.
Quoted from skankingaround:Providing an update to my salvage yard find for next to nothing.....
It is actually starting to clean up ok (see below)
The good ->
The playfield is in what i would class as reasonable condition
GI fired up and nearly every globe works
The boards that are there look tidy as does all wiring throughout
The Bad ->
No MPU
Cabinet is in OK condition
Two score displays weren't functioning
It's going to take some hard work to get that rust off those legs unless I can find a replacement
The back of the headbox is starting to peel
Backglass may as well not be there (I've kept what I can)
I'm really in two minds what to do going forward here, at a minimum at the moment I would be up for
a) NOS Backglass
b) Alltek MPU
c) minimum two score displays
d) flipper needs work on the left
I'll admit I'm a beginner to this, I last did Fishtales and made a bit of profit from it however was experimenting as a first time around. If this was a different title then Lost World it would be an easy choice, part of me wants to take on the challenge and breathe new life into this game, part of me says I should just sell it as a project, cash in the difference and put it towards another pin.
My Plan currently > Borrow an Alltek MPU, see how the rest of the game functions and make a call from there, I'm toying with the idea of using this as half a learning experience, which means attempting a cabinet restore etc, I figure I'm in for practically nothing at the moment, If I screw it up I sell it onward as a project.
If I can't borrow an MPU then possibly buy one and look to sell as part of the project, I can't really test a whole lot more without it.
Love to hear your thoughts on my salvage yard score, Cheers [quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
Nice looking playfield, they are usually beat to death.
First thing I did, still in slam switch mode even with C2 bypassed.
So.. fix the known broken stuff first and go from there. J6 connector pins are wrecked and the ones next to it not so hot. New interconnect harness on the way and will rebuild J6 using the good pins from the old interconnect. Have been unable to source new pins or I'd just grab 100 or so.
Quoted from dothedoo:Can’t you use standard Molex .156 pins from GPE? This doesn’t use the bifurcated pins like Sys-80.
Uses same edge connectors as system 80 I thought. I'll double check, you might be right.
Quoted from cottonm4:You sure have been doing a lot of roadwork here lately.
Yes.
20200613_112836 (resized).jpgQuoted from Colsond3:Pretty good actually. Better than the other ones I’ve had. A few small touchups, but done pretty well.
Congrats...you bastard!
Ha, no doubt we will swap out one day!
20200613_172312 (resized).jpgQuoted from Coindork:Nice!!!
Funniest moment of our road trip? Grabbing a coffee at a farmers market and the guy serving us asked what we were doing in New Jersey, picking up a pin for restoration was my reply.
He stated; You work on pinball machines? You guys are freaks!
I'm going to get that printed on t-shirts, lol.
Quoted from Colsond3:WTH? Apparently I now bring home games while I’m doing yardwork.
My buddy just stopped by and dropped this off in my driveway. He sold it to a guy a few years back, and got a call that it would light up but stopped booting. When he got there, the guy asked if he would just buy it back.
He drove it here, thinking I would want it. I’m at capacity, so I’d be happy to pass it on for the $700 I gave him for it if anybody wants it. It’s still sitting in the garage for easy pick up...today.
Might be the MPU dropping below 5V. If somebody in this thread wants it quickly, I’ll even do $650 if it’s a game somebody was looking for.
I haven’t set it up, but looks like a pretty nice example. BG does have some touchups. PF is pretty nice. He shopped it before he sold it, did a good amount of work. New beehive, new drop targets, new pop caps, plastics are all in great shape. Rebuilt the flips and pops.
And it has an original Stingray key fob.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
Played one a few years ago, was pretty fun. Pity you did not have it 24 hours ago when I was roaming around your backyard!
Quoted from gutz:You mean the booth with the word "phone" all over it? That'll be a tough mystery to solve.
I would still wager a good size number would fail.
Quoted from EasternBloc:Got plans for that!
Indeed! And Bill & Ted, The Birds, North by Northwest, Get Smart - but only just now put the movie "Phone Booth" on my watch list. Haven't seen that one yet.
Phone Booth was pretty gripping if I recall correct, been several years though.
Quoted from RWH:Hartford?
Another road trip, didn't you just complete one.
Heading north.
Trying to keep up with Colson
No guarantee of a buy this trip, have to see when I get there. Boston area.
Quoted from RWH:Well you certainly set the bar high if you intend to close on Colson
Looking at 5 pins, one shot.
Quoted from RWH:Looks like you ended up with 2, were the other three in bad shape or did you just want the 2 titles you have?
Still loading!
Quoted from KSUWildcatFan:Damn, those are some solid picks. Are you made of solid gold?!
Nope, just careful with the play money. Two or three will be for sale, just wanted the DE titles. Next Gen was really fun so might stick around
Home safe and dry, the Stern is the Vengeance Premium model. I hope the wife unit does NOT take a shine to it. Lol.
What a run.
20200627_162448 (resized).jpg20200627_164224 (resized).jpg
Added over 4 years ago:My mistake, the Stern Star Trek is an LE not a premium.
Quoted from KSUWildcatFan:I hear ya. I just went over 10K on the 8 I now own and I'm a bit queasy from that. But I like where the lineup has gone:
T2
World Cup Soccer 94
Space Shuttle (hardtopped)
High Speed (hardtopped)
Eight Ball Deluxe (being hardtopped)
Cactus Jack's
Meteor
F-14
Not quite the star power some people have but not bad for 10K and 1.5 years in the hobby IMO. I've gone through 14 total machines, wheeling and dealing those I've sold along the way with hopes of rolling into something else.
Still, my picks these days are usually much narrower and mostly near retail or thereabouts. No crazy scoops of late!
Safe travels!
Oh I blew past the 10K mark sometime ago, lol!
There has been a lot of wheeling and dealing though and I do most of my own repair work which helps. When you get a good deal you just have to run, what can I say? There has been very few if any "splurge" purchases that I regret later. Money in the bank or pins you can play? As long as you are not in debt and paying interest, sinking a little money in pins which you can roll over later without taking a haircut isn't a bad thing. It took me a while but I view them as rentals that sometimes you actually make a few bucks on, I really love the restoration process the best though.
P.S. Really took a shine to early Williams with Blackout, Space Shuttle is on my radar to have a go at one of these days! Good Hunting!
Quoted from RWH:Colson, takes one day's off and his subjects dethrone him, long live the new King gdonovan!
Colson is still the King!
Quoted from Bud:I’d love to find a nice condition torpedo pin
This one was restored a few years ago, needs some minor tuning. Playfield has been clearcoated, new translite too.
IMG_7141 (resized).jpgIMG_7144 (resized).jpgIMG_7146 (resized).jpgIMG_7168 (resized).jpgQuoted from RWH:Is it just me or has anyone else noticed PA. appears to be the pinball mecca of the States??? Look back through this thread pinball machines are flying all over the place in that state, like watching an ant colony.
There is an area north of Boston I have pulled a few pins out of too but PA is clearly a pin mecca.
Quoted from KSUWildcatFan:It matches my skill set fairly well -- mostly pretty simple, not overly complex kinds of games. New(er) games are very frustrating to me.
That goes for me as well. Someone showed me the factory manual for one of the newer games, Lord of the Rings perhaps? And stated it took 45 minutes just to go through the rule section!
No thanks, not my style. I find a 5 to 10 minute long game about perfect with 20 minutes on the outside my limit. If it goes that long I start making the game rules progressively harder.
In other news since I have to be manager on duty today... work printer goes "brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr"
20200628_081230 (resized).jpgQuoted from PinballManiac40:Nice pickup. I see though that you put WPC legs onto the DE Star Trek. Sorry, just my OCD nocticed that.
Nah, just the new set that was provided. One of several minor items I will address in near future.
Quoted from bssbllr:I want to be the new king.
[quoted image]
Too much pressure, I leave the crown to Colson. He has a certain panache wearing it
Quoted from Isochronic_Frost:What a gorgeous example. I might have to come over and take notes for my restoration! That is genuinely the NICEST TA I’ve ever seen. EVER!
Welcome anytime of course to check it out, I'm already going through it and chucking the incandescent bulbs in the trash.
20200628_185237 (resized).jpgQuoted from Harvs:And a Laser War with topper?? - Hey, if you or a family member ever need a kidney, I'd trade both mine for that bad boy.
Seriously, let me know if you ever want to sell LW, I miss all 3 I sold, especially my minty one damnit!
This LW came out very nice and is a very fun game; the topper shown was the "first proof of concept" and I'm working on the final version now. It will be very close to the factory unit when done.
Well when I'm not traipsing around the countryside that is.

Haa! I'm in!
Just sold one this morning, time to look for its replacement
Quoted from Skyemont:Sometimes it flows so fast and quick and other times I can’t find anything. The hunt is more fun than anything.
Truer words have not been spoken.
Been dry for weeks, months and then an avalanche of pins in a few weeks.
Quoted from cottonm4:As you all have been chasing pins across the country, did you get any indications that these were "distress" sales from some who may have fallen on hard times?
Not once in my case.
Edit: Maybe one and indirectly. It was sitting in a closed bar not making money and the owner sold it off.
Quoted from Slogan1111:If your married, it's too late! 60k is a bargain.
Cost me more to get rid of the last one.
Quoted from Colsond3:Yes sir, Exit 62. Loaded up and rolling out.
I don’t see a Wawa. Where the hell do I get coffee around here?
[quoted image][quoted image]
Looks like trade bait
Safe travels my friend.
Quoted from SKWilson:I got one! Thanks to Pinside for the E-mail letting me know this was put up for sale earlier this afternoon. Turns out it was only 10 minutes away.[quoted image]
Who you going to call?
Quoted from bluespin:It looks lonely, I predict it’ll have company soon.
As sure as death and taxes.
I'm trying to cut down to "the best" and its still difficult, particularly if it is a title that you brought back from the dead.
Like contemplating selling one of your kids.
Quoted from Pinkitten:That floppy pizza looks awesome. Reminds me of Backroom Pizza in Ann Arbor, MI.
Just got the call from STI...new pin arrives in 35 mins! Dude!
Wut?
Quoted from AlexF:With ems you always hear that little tilt ball rolling back and forth. It's a happy sound as it means I'm bringing home a new project.
Spring Break from Allentown 2 years ago, had to pull over and pull the ball.
click, clack, click, clack.
Quoted from daveyvandy:Is that an Australian thing to say? Never heard this phrase before and the internet does not have any research results for me. Curious what this means. Context makes it sound like it was a needle in a haystack for you.
I have heard of kewpie dolls out here in New England but it is an old term for sure.
Quoted from transprtr4u:If the original Rudy isn't creepy enough, this one is over the top
Very cool for sure!
Quoted from DuffysArcade:Gonna be a challenge, but eventually it'll look great next to Black Hole!
[quoted image]
Yup!
5d3e46bcbaec8ec831848008a18ec3580d55ef61 (resized).jpgQuoted from Willathrilla:They made it home safe. Easier to guess without the tarp.
[quoted image][quoted image]
Sharpshooter, cant guess the other
Quoted from snyper2099:A devil? Nah... Maybe you could somehow convince others in the thread you are not just a common flipper though... but I doubt it. Besides it’s nearly impossible to convince anyone on this site of anything.
Barking up the wrong tree bro, Colson is a great guy whom I have known 3-4 years now. He has lost more than a few bucks moving some pins even giving some away, more concerned about getting them up, going and back in use than making a buck.
Quoted from snyper2099:I can only respond to what I see posted in the thread and in profiles “bro”. There are plenty of flippers that are great guys. If you think it actually enhances the thread, then say so. I for one, do not.
Suit yourself.
Quoted from Colsond3:So you have to make an exception for a game close by...that’s somewhat rare...and on your wishlist...right?
[quoted image]
I was just thinking you were due.
Quoted from Ballypin:Mystery pickup from another 30 hour, 1460 mile round trip.
Gotta keep up with Colson.
[quoted image]
I'm due for another pickup then!
