I brought this home coincidentally on my birthday last Monday. This is the most I've paid for a
machine but it was fair, only an hour away, and I've been looking for one for awhile. I had to pull
the trigger.. The hobby didn't pay for this one. I'm going to have to sell a few machines..
It's a pretty nice original..

Thanks for the kindness. No, this Genco's an original. Wisconsin's may still be
for sale. It pretty much plays, but I'll be going through it all after the New Years..

Not only joy, but you have something nice to show for it, unlike some

OMG.... What a P.I.T.A. who does that?!

I once got in a Bally ball bowler and the main inch or so diameter wire harness was cut.
That's the cloth extremely color faded wire harness, but for $250.00 delivered, I'll take it..
After completed, two wires were wrong. Switched them around and all okay..

I won this 1956 Genco Hi-Fly pitch and bat at an auction a few weeks ago.

Just curious, what did you pay?
There's a few Pitch and Bats that's not your average Pitch
and Bat, and that Genco is one of them.. It's a Homer..

#4812 7 years ago
Quoted from Jappie:

I paid about 1400 euros for it. How did I do?

Others that were bidding must have not known its
value either, which turned out good for you..
You did very well.. (T)

Seriously, your going to destroy that? I'd kill to have that

100% I restored Kiddie Rides and if you were closer I'd
offer something very decent for it mostly to save it..
I'd have to think one of a very few (if that)..

#5364 6 years ago
Quoted from Spencer:

Whats very decent? How rare do you think it is?

I'm certainly not an expert on Kiddie rides, but do have some at my
pond area, and surely wouldn't mind that Superman Train..
I don't remember ever seeing one, and it would be interesting to know how
rare it may be. Maybe if another thread was started asking "Has anyone ever
seen another one of these", we'd get a better idea on how limited they are..
I'm not thinking that it's one of a kind, but I don't have a clue where to
locate another..
If you were within driving distance for me to see and if all was complete, it
wouldn't surprise me to offer a decent Cowpoke or something to that nature
for it.. (T)

Always loved the shuffle bowlers

Actually that's a Bally Ball Bowler, and looks to be in very
nice shape. 2" vinyl numbers (1 - 10) on those pins really
would spice them up..

#5432 6 years ago
Quoted from catalina:

I am trying to decide of I should fix them

Oh, those are original pins. I fixed pins and other items with Clear Seal by
Liquid Nails. It comes in a tooth paste like tube and it's a great adhesive
that remains flexible. A rather thin coat on the backside of the pins will do
the trick. Wal-Mart carries it..
Your Bowler looks to be a 14 footer and has 2 (the black ones) original
balls. Those Ballys are responsive and once fully gone through, they're
for the most part, trouble free..

but I couldn't pass up on it.

Yeah, for that price, you can't lose..
I've seen many 9.6, 9.8, original Gold Strike backglasses, but only one
that was perfect. Can't tell for sure, but if original, your looks pretty close
to it..
The G.S. I presently have set up is pretty nice, but the one I acquired last
year is a little better which is the one with the perfect glass, so I do have
an extra G.S. that I guess is up for trades which I prefer doing opposed to selling..

#5710 6 years ago
Quoted from lpeters82:

Any major "make sure you don't do this..." that I should know before I start tinkering with an EM.

By all means, "Do Not" use any type of aerosol contact cleaner.
The contacts need to be lightly filed and before checking the adjustment,
tighten the stack blade screws..
I once bought a Gottlieb World Series, brought in home, opened it, and
white powder on the bottom board looking to be from a fire extinguisher.
Many burned wires. You can guess from what. Didn't have much into it,
but was still nice that I had a spare bottom board..
Also, I went totally through my 2nd Bally Bow and Arrow, put it in a local
Pub, and it constantly needed maintenance. Contacts consistently needed
cleaning. After many months, it finally cleared up. I'm thinking the switches
were coated with a film from some type of contact cleaner..
BTW, your G.S. looked good in the pics..

I don't want to take anything away from Colsond, I was responding to him,
but I'm from Newark, N.Y. (within' reach), and I have a bunch of Wedge Heads
and others. Unless they're asking a crazy price, you should pick the Spaceship
up. It would be nice to know it's condition, but maybe I'd shop out a machine

Also have many Ball Bowlers, but that would take a little more than Spaceship..

And that brown barn has a wide selection, and can't even hold them all..
I'm sure Colson is laughing knowing he's helping with drilling out the lock..
If that machine is gotten for a good price, (and no set of stairs are involved),
I'd get it out of there whole. Never know what's under that hood..
You know actually, I also have an extra thermo type machine in really nice
shape, but the thermo is a football. Williams 1967 Kick Off is a really good
player. Alex can confirm to that..

I quickly (and angrily) took over at the wheel and didn't look back..

#6008 6 years ago

To be truthful, the last thing I need is another one of these, but I'm
a sucker when it comes to within' a driving distance good deal, and actually
enjoyed the trip. The journey took me to this underpass that really looked
cool and on the other side a sign stated "In the Guiniess Book for being
the only underpass under the Erie Cannel, built in 1823". Different from
any other underpass I've been through, and also once I arrived, it was
and enjoyful experience. I would have stayed for a few more if I didn't have
the 1.5 hr. drive ahead of me..

one thing's for sure, I will be able to get this
bowler going like back in 1956..
It could use some cosmetic work, but I think
I'll primarily go through the mechanics (plus add a
few tricks) and sell it (if I had to because space
is 100% maxed out), but like always, I'd much rather
trade..

Quoted from dirkdiggler:

Could probably do 4 standing up but more risky

I've done 4 many times with a 6' box. The trick is to feed a rope through the small
passenger side cracked open window, through the opened drivers door, around the standing
machines, and then one more full circled loop. The drivers door closes on the rope.
Now that I have a trailer (and no room), those days are over, but can be done pretty
much risk free..

#7017 6 years ago

I was deliberating on trading a freshly gone through ball bowler for three machines,
with this one being one of them. "Jodini" gave the thumbs up, so I went with the trade..
It took a while to go through this one, but now almost complete. It still needs a little more
work cosmetically, but it plays fine. I have a couple of the more familiar P & Bs with the
men-run-the-bases set up, and maybe it's partcially because it's a new toy, but I do like
its game play. I was asked to take a few pics, so I thought I'd post them here..
It came with different colored legs, so I found rusted ones hanging around, and sanded,
hammertoned, and they'll be going on this weekend..

Snagged a Gottlieb Dimension on craigslist today for $50.

And looks to have minimum upper wear..
I have an eye out for a playfield. A couple years
back, I picked up a Dimension for $75 that had a shattered
playfeld glass and was under a leaky roof. The cabinet also
is in need of repair, but unlike the playfield, it is repairable..

#7173 6 years ago
Quoted from animesuperj:

Hopefully there isn't much else difference wise.

There will be some differences. The ball count unit for sure..
I'm in N.Y. If you were closer, you could use the head of
the project dimension to compare, which really is what
you'll need. By any slim chance, if you had a Hurdy Gurdy
(or even Central Park) head (glass not needed), I'd trade
you the whole machine..
Getting a 2001 head to work is possible, but without a
Dimension head next to it, it would be a little tricky and
maybe a few other parts needed than may be expected..

Quoted from o-din:

You ever see an original Fireball that needed a new one?

Actually, I don't think I got in any Bally from the 70s that needed a backglass..

Quoted from dasvis:Do you suppose the Bally backglasses being in really nice shape was because they were 3/16" glass rather than 1/8"?

Prior to 1967 (and maybe into 67), Gottlieb's glasses were 3/16" and the
ones that I have gotten it, the ratio of good glasses to bad were much less
than the Ballys..
Seems like I should know what Gottlieb machine first came out with the
1/8" glass, but I'm not recalling right now..

#7564 6 years ago

I accidently posted the previous pic.
This is the only Bally (from the 70s) glass that
I had gotten in that was in poor shape. The
guy had no clue shipping a glass.
Cardboard and that's it! I placed the bubble
wrap in the pic to keep the USPS ins. from
complaining about the packaging's preparation..
I might add, each piece was mint..

Quoted from Colsond3:

Man, what a bummer. Such a great glass.

And then ooch..

Glad you got a new one

Yea, I traded a different glass for a bgresto O.C. Does the trick..
O.C. is a nice game. If I didn't have another, I would have hung onto
that one. How's the Fun Park. I think you more so had your eye on
getting that one in..

Quoted from chill:

AAB is add-a-ball.

Yes, AAB I meant as add-a-ball. I was writing maybe a little too nonchalantly..
As you say, it does have a somewhat open playfield which is one of the reasons why
I went through one of the Extra Innings (which has the same playfield layout as Home Run)
last Winter figuring I'd just trade or sale it. Once done, I surprisingly enjoyed it, and although
I have another one, I decided to keep it so I put it in a Friends restaurant, and it seems to be
well liked..
I haven't yet gone through the Home Run, but have played a friends', and liked it better than
Batter Up or World Series which are also AABs. Extra Inning I'm thinking is 2nd to Home Run..

I just picked up a 1967 Williams Touchdown for $99

Not to compare, but it reminds me that years back I picked one up for $35.00
No longer have that, but still have a couple of Kick Offs (AAB version).

1954 United Banner shuffle alley.
More cosmetic work than operational.
BG is flaking some.
Need tear down and cleaning of all step ups.

Yup, and with 24 score reels, servicing the head will take a little bit of time,
but well worth it for a nice vintage bowler. Looks like a triple in the 10th
gives 900 points. Must be 8.5" pins, right? I'm pretty sure the 10" was first
used in 1955.
For a while now, I've used clear vinyl to seal the glass. For me it proved
to be much better than spraying..

#14704 4 years ago
Quoted from Morinack:

Must've been kept in a dry environment.
Step ups are gummed/frozen with old grease.

Yes, it's nice when those cardboard score reels are nice and firm..
Cleaning then lubing the Step Ups and Score motor wiper boards are important.
I'm sure you already know this but "No" Steel Wool. I use scotch brite with a solvent.
The little copper ratchet type piece in the score reel units are sure to be frozen.
If the backglass is a little flaky, after carefully cleaning the score reel windows,
applying clear vinyl as a seal to me has been a huge plus. It's something like mylar,
but cheaper and I like working with it better. After it's applied, you can then touch up
the backglass, and if a mistake or mismatch of color is made, it's easy to erase with
no chance of damage..
Sorry if much of this is already common knowledge to you, but just want to let you
know from experience of very many machines..

#14713 4 years ago
Quoted from gliebig:

What do you recommend for lubing the step ups?

Like many, I use Super Lube. It comes in a tooth paste style tube. It's good stuff.
Doesn't gum up. Back in the 90s, I bought Ball Bowlers and some of the Score Motor's
wiper rivets were worn completely off. I replaced the rivets and still have some of those
bowlers out in different places with very little if any wear on those new rivets because of the lube.
Unlike others, I also put a thin film of Remmington Gun Oil over the lube. As the Super Lube,
Remmington Gun oil contains teflon. It likes to stick around. On tiny wiper boards as the mid 70s
bowlers score reels have, I only apply a film of Gun Oil.
I have dozens of machines set up. The more friction free they run, the better.

I do like your thoughts on the BG.

Years back, I picked up a pin where the backglass had already been sealed with clear packaging
tape and after maybe 20 years stored in variable temperature changes (Upstate N.Y.), the art
work stayed in tack, so since I had backglasses made from vinyl, my Graphic Designer's an easy
source to acquire the clear from. So far, for me, way better than spraying..

I think this style came out in 1954 and is called airflight.

I'm not exactly sure on the year of this one, but picked the booth up maybe 15 years ago for
$250.00, and shortly after was super lucky that a payphone from the same era fell in my lap for $100.00
Sent the phone to "Phoneco", and for $160.00, they sand blasted, primed, painted, set it up with
vintage instruction card, and converted it to work off the land line. It doesn't need coins to operate,
but if one is put in, the bell(s) ring. Have it set up down at the pond (park).

Quoted from Jason_Jehosaphat:

You set this up at a local park? How did you pitch it to them?
"How would you like a vintage phone booth standing in the park? A symbol of urban modernity, circa 1970?"
May I ask what it is about vintage phone booths that appeals to you?

Actually, back in 1990 when I bought the property, it was a cornfield with a swampy
amazon looking water hole down below out back surrounded with all scrub prickery brush.
Without boots, you couldn't walk down through the weeds without getting your feet wet (artesian springs).
Converting it to a vintage park has pretty much been my Summer hobby. After much work with a Friend's
crawler, the first thing I built was the pavilion, and while running the underground in cased electric, I
figured someday I may want to put a phone in it (never realizing I'd later get a phone booth), so I ran
a pair of 18 gauge wire in the incasement along with the 12 gauge. Years later after buying the phone
booth, I put that 18 gauge to use. The phone booth fits well with the rest..
There's more, but these pics give a pretty good idea. I have before pics (when literally a swamp), but on slides.
I had to throw in a pic of the 20' umbrella I acquired last year, which is somewhat a story of its own..

good chance I'd just be hanging onto it, but if anyone could use it, it's $200.00 (my price), and
around $25.00 for shipping (USPS). I had it put on 3/16" plexi.
I'll have the Fun House up and running someday..

Not a complete game, but I picked this up today.
The story is, the Old Time Vendor retired in the early 70s
In the late 1990s/early 2000s, the Kids start trashing the games that's been
stored in the large barn.
Around 15 years ago, the barn's roof caved in and what ever was left was pretty
much destroyed, but this head survived.
It was estimated there were 4,000 machines in the huge barn (and he retired
in the early 70s!). It's within' an hour away, and from all the wanted ads I put out
in hick town Pennysavers in this area (before Craigs List), I never got a heads up
on that place..

Glass looks pretty nice for being in a barn all that time.

And a barn that's been collapsed a few years.
I saw some of the Candy and Cigarette machines he pulled,
and all 100% rust.
He said the only things left were Bingos and Bowlers. When
he grabbed them, they fell apart.
This head must had been in a drier corner. Some cracking on the
top, but solid along with the sides and bottom..

The Wing Ding's playfield I have is complete, but fairly worn. However, I have

so I'll eventually be swapping things around.
A few years back, a non-pinball Friend had a very nice Wing Ding. I help him get it

Although my space was pretty much full, I should have bought it. Even the cabinet

Not exactly today, but my latest acquisition. Took it off my wish list.

What came first, "the Hay or the Pigeon"..
Years back before Craigs list, I got a call (from one of the Pennysaver wanted ads) from
hickville N.Y. and said they had a pinball machine in a barn. I took the 1.5 hr. (very back road) trip,
and could see the Hay Ride backglass look to be in pretty good shape, but the playfield had no glass
and it was entirely covered with Pigeon crap. 100%!. But for a hundred bucks, what the hell.
Got it home, cleaned the rest of it up, and the fairly thick layer of hay between the playfield and
Pigeon crap was enough to save the playfield.
I went through it years back, and eventually, I'll have her set back up again.

Hick(s)ville is way more than an hour and a half from you.

There actually is a Hicksville, N.Y.?! I guess maybe I should have looked that up.
What I actually meant was it was some hick town far in the sticks where I picked it up.
It may have been SE from me, but there's no way I can say exactly where it was.
Back then, I placed ads in small hick town Pennysavers. When I got home from
work, more days than not there would be calls left on the answering machine..
