Picked this up Friday. Drove 3-1/2 hours to Cleveland suburb to get it (from another Pinsider). Took me 3 days to get it working. Had all kinds of issues, undisclosed. Pretty disappointing to drive that far to get something not as described. Got it home and fixed all the sloppy work the previous owner had done to it. But it's working now and looks ok. Going to attempt some touch up on the backglass while I look for a better one. Happy to have a Teacher's Pet. My mother (retired) and daughter are teachers!

I totally agree with RWH. The place or person you purchased from is someone I would never want to do business with. I suggest you protect your fellow Pinsider's from getting screwed in the future and post the company/person's name who lied to you.

Well, didn't bring it home today....more like 2 weeks ago. Scored a 1970 Aquarius that someone had painted blue, yellow, and green. Sloppy paint job at that. So here are the before and after pics....it's back to factory paint design! Now the reassembly fun begins!

Spanish Eyes. I bet the paint is preserved under that crazy custom job. It probably could be removed without sanding? A lot of work either way...

Spanish Eyes they are! I think someone dropped some acid then went to work with the (black light) paints and topped it all off with THICK glossy varnish. The mess was REALLY thick. Runs all over. The flipper buttons stuck in their housings. I was going to take a picture but wanted to forget instead things like the plunger barrel spring. It was so coated with the varnish it didn't move. I had to hammer it loose from the rod. As you could see, they didn't remove the legs or anything before painting. Besides all that, the game had been in storage supposedly 10 years. I did get it working before stripping things down. The backless and playfield are fair. It'll be a nice player. I needed a project!

Picked up a couple of days ago and met a cool pinsider as well! It’ll need a cabinet repaint and maybe a back glass, but it’s in nice shape overall. Looking forward to getting this sorted out and running again.

Congrats on finding a SURFSIDE...great game! Picked one up myself a few years ago and did a restore. Had to repaint my cabinet also as it had been painted all black! Restored pic attached. Get yours all working and tuned up; it's one of the best in my opinion!

Brought it home yesterday. 6 hours on the road. It had been sitting in a garage for more than 12 years, untouched. Collected a shitload of dust and dirt. How does all that dirt get under the glass, onto the playfield, and into the closed cabinet?

Game almost boots. Needs some work. Backglass is perfect! Looks like mylar was installed over a dirty playfield. A few small spots of missing paint. Should clean up nicely.

#16945 3 years ago

Here's more on the Evel Knievel I picked up yesterday. The playfield is good, will only need a few minor touchups. The backglass is perfect. The cabinet is kinda ugly, flaking paint on the front and one side, but I really don't want to paint it. Just gonna play it.

Before I went to look at it the seller (the son was selling for his father) said it didn't work. No lights or anything. No corrosion on any of the boards, but it had been sitting for many years and I didn't want to power it on without doing some basic work (caps on the SDB, etc.). So I disconnected the headbox, removed the legs, and stood the cabinet on end. Getting ready to load into my vehicle the seller (owner's son) says "Hey, what's this?" pointing the switch on the bottom of the cabinet. I say "that's the on-off switch". You should have seen the look on his face. He says "why didn't dad tell me about that? Maybe it worked after all."

Already started stripping it apart for cleaning. Put the MPU on the bench and powered it up. Gets 7 flashes! Made my day.

A Future Spa would have been a more balanced pin for the bedroom I think.

Future Spa is already in the garage (man cave)! I would have put Playboy there but I'm outta room. No more room now in the bedroom. Thinking about the dining room, then the living room, then the kitchen. Guess I'll need to wait for wife to head of town again to expand into the other rooms.

jethroP, you're on a roll brother, this pandemic ain't stopping you

The wildlife around here have started wandering into our neighborhoods like never before. I suppose it's the pandemic. So this Big Game (it's a tiger) reared its beautiful head only 10 minutes away from my house. I could resist bagging something that close to home. It was DOA but I plan to resuscitate it in the coming daze.

Quoted from Ballypin:

Hey, let’s all lighten up with some joy. Here is the Captain Fantastic I picked up this morning and is the 4th CF I have owned in the last 22 years. This one came from a great pinsider in Elkhart, IN and he sold it to me for what he paid. I plan to take some better parts of it and combine with CF#3 I purchased in May and then offer up that game at NO profit to me. Small way to pay back the hobby.
I’ll probably have sideways pictures but I’ll fix that when I get home.
[quoted image][quoted image]

Dang it...wish you were closer. I'd like your leftover Capt Fantastic.

#17506 3 years ago
Quoted from Ballypin:

That’s nothing. I am picking up Flip Flop # 5 on Friday and then I will have another leftover.
You were closer. But...
The kinfolk said "Jed move away from there"
Said "Californy is the place you ought to be"

I do remember one of your Flip Flops...reusable stencils you made, all that. Great memories!! And thanks for the good deals on pins you sold me!

But yeah, downsizing and Californy living is nice for us. Retirement community, golf, tennis, swimming all that. I do miss the game rooms I had in Ohio. Here you get about 1/2 the home for 5 times the money, so don't have as many pins here, but I'm having fun with the projects I do find and fix up.

Maybe you need to make a cross country trip with a trailer like @ibuypinballs, bring me some projects, and load up on your return to Ohio.
