Quoted from dmieczko:

My nephew (tjc02002) and I went in on the deal 50/50. All the games need a good cleaning & shop-job, and some need minor work. The arcade was looking to sell all their old pinball machines and replace them with newer games that could earn more $$ per day. If you can't tell from the truck pictures, the titles are Theatre of Magic, Addams Family, Attack from Mars, Terminator 2, Funhouse, Cyclone, Comet, and Sterns - Simpson's Pinball Party, Elvis, and Ripley's. It will be fun going through these over the next few months!

I'd been trying to buy those pinballs since last fall!!! WTH????
Nice score! So annoyed that I hear nothing from them and then I check and they're all gone.

Well, the <$100 finds still exist, but I have my work cut out for me! Not to mention the fact that it was in the back of what I can only surmise to be an old milk truck turned meth lab; my most bizarre machine pickup yet... But hey, I like to buy them this way, it makes bringing them back to life all the more gratifying. Plus, it was only a 15 minute drive. The good news is that I'm pretty good with a circular saw and cabinet work is my favorite! The pics of the new head are of one I'm building for a friends Flash.
Below is what an $83 Gorgar looks like.

My kind of deal!!!!
Don't find these in NY it seems.
This reminds me of that infamous "Heart of Darkness" post. Complete with methlab-esque scene!

Yay, I can finally post my exciting score!

This is my second pin that I've been hunting down for a while now! The first time I saw one of these and watched the gameplay I fell in love. What a perfect combination!

It took me hunting into a stale ad on Facebook many hours and miles away. The pictures were sparse and the price was too high. Luckily it hadn't sold and the gentleman was glad to finally move it out! We settled on a FANTSTIC price and I set out on an all day adventure.

This game also happens to be quite special, as this hails from the legendary FUNSPOT! I'm thrilled to be only the 2nd person to own it.
Yes, FunSpot means heavily routed... but surprisingly this game looks great and there wear is minimal. Playfield needs a good polishing but artwork is fantastic!!

Without further delay, here's my extremely HEAVY new Baby!

I scored two true HUO Batman Dark Knights in two months. The one I picked up this weekend has only 88 plays on her. If that's not crazy enough the serial numbers are one after the other and built the same day. They both came from home owners and one was purchased from a magazine and the other from an dealer.

Those sequential serial numbers though!! So niiiice. I can deeply appreciate how awesome that is.

Sorta like my Dad's first bike, an old '47 knucklehead he had for many many years. His buddy loved it and hunted down his own Knuck, and it is EXACTLY 100 serial numbers after my Dad's! So neat when stuff like that happens

Today my lucky purchase just came in! A HUGE thanks to Rixzilla for finding this and transporting it here!

I asked him to keep an eye out for Night Moves and, I kid you not, 12 hours later he calls me and someone had just offered their NM to him! Insane luck to have it pop up with perfect timing.

Anyway this nifty pin is in really nice condition, but needs a good polish and cleaning on the pf. I'm thrilled to finally have a fantastic cocktail game. The only really crappy thing, which I was aware of upon purchasing, was that the MPU is totally shot. It has certainly seen better days.

Quoted from SilverUnicorn:

The house it came out of was gorgeous. The game room loft was on the second floor. The steps went down, made 2 turns, and then down again. And they were VERY nice hardwood steps. I was paranoid of scratching them. We got out of that situation unscathed, but at the turn realized we couldn' make the turn with the game on the handtruck. and not much room to remove it without taking it back up the stps.
Anyway, we get to the destination. Get the game in the house with no issues. My genius idea was that we could slide the machine down the steps on the carpet because again, there was limited room at the bottom and the game and handtruck would not fit. So that's what we did. Which worked really well, until I missed a step and fell backwards. the game slid down about 6 steps, and marked up the wall on the way down. No gouges, but I felt pretty bad about it. I take pride in moving things well, and this was a stupid mistake on my part.
I have 2 cool bruises, but nobody got hurt, the game was okay, and the wall really wasn't that bad. I just feld bad about the whole thing.
Chris

Sounds like when I brought Baby Pac-Man home to the new mancave. That thing is too freakin' heavy... we tried sliding it, buddy lost his grip and I was the only thing between that hulking yellow beast, and the bottom of a flight of stairs.
It was not fun; I made it out okay, but the stairs didn't fair so well! And so before I could work on the Baby Pac project, I had to sand and stain the freshly created staircase project...

Lesson? Bring stronger friends!

This rarity came in on Friday. Playfield, wire harness, and back glass of Bell Ringer, only 150 made!!
A great little novelty pin that I’m excited to have.

Still need to source the remaining parts as I plan on putting this back together.
The cab was turned into a VP, sadly.

If anyone has a source on a cab, or other mini pins please let me know

Not really sure how to go about creating a cab for this thing... so that will come later

Also funny to note: November marked my first year on pinside, and since September I’ve added a new pin to my collection every month... LOL. You guys weren’t kidding... I have another one coming this month too... I’m out of space. Send help!

I'm not sure if you got this from the same person I'm thinking of, but someone parted one of these a few months back.

Indeed it was, Ballypinwiz. I had asked about it then but wasn’t able to buy it. I
Remembered it again and shot him another message, and bought all that remained. It was sad to see such a rare pin parted out, but I understand why. Anyway... I caved and bought it. If nothing else, it can hang on the wall.

I actually already have some other pieces by chance from someone else who just happened to have the remnants of a part out.

Mostly! The proposal was done during the First State Flippers August Annihilation event on 8/4/18. 50 people in attendance, mostly middle aged, haha. Although we had about 10 women in attendance that day along with 2 of our kids who were all playing in the tournament. It was quite the surprise. Below is a short clip of the proposal recorded by the local newspaper.

Wow that’s incredibly neat! I had never heard of such a thing before. So awesome someone thought of that.

Was that an aftermarket thing, or did they partner with Gottlieb to do that? Was Mario the only pin ever converted for accessibility? Curious too, what does that front panel do?

I brought home an arcade game and it lead to me picking up the saddest Seawitch playfield ever to exist.

Sorry to bum anyone out, but I really had to post this. Crosspost from the pinball horror thread.

This thing was sitting outside in a pile as we loaded up the arcade machine.

Quoted from the original post:

Quoted from Isochronic_Frost:

I went and bought a Maximum Force from this really crappy, somewhat cryptic letgo ad. They mentioned other arcade machines but I wasn’t able to get out there for over a month.
This place was quite literally the middle of nowhere. No cell service, an EIGHT MILE DEAD END ROAD. All the signs of “you’re going to get murdered out here”
[quoted image]
Finally I get to this hillbilly heaven of a few ramshackle houses and folks having big bonfires on their front lawns.
On the side of the house there’s a pile stacked to the roof of absolutely destroyed games: Super Hang-On, a dual Time Crisis, two Silent Scopes, some Konami flying games. All smashed to pieces.
The only two games left are Maximum force and an abortion of an X-men vs Street Fighter (with a Big Buck Hunter gun attached for some reason)
When I asked WHY they destroyed the games, this was the pearl of wisdom I received: “Well they wasn’t working right so we’s figured tuh scrap em”
I asked if they had anymore pieces or any pinball parts and they said those had already been destroyed.
[quoted image]
I was looking around the piles of arcade tragedy and found this poor, pathetic Seawitch burned beneath a flight simulator. I wanted to save what was left immediately and they told me “well that’s ‘er burn pit, but if yous really wannit, it’s yers”
If I had just came in a month sooner I could have saved even more.
[quoted image]
They smashed up over 30 arcade machines and a few pinball machines because they didn’t work and they figured nobody wanted them so they never even offered. I heard that several other brave souls ventured out before me and grabbed a game or two, but they weren’t as explorative as myself. Which is completely understandable because they also had a small pack of pit-bulls roaming the backyard and they weren’t terribly happy to see me.
All in all I never thought I’d be in this thread but here I am and let me tell you seeing this in personal was abysmal.
Now I understand the feeling. I could have possibly saved some more bits and pieces, but digging through all the destroyed cabs was just so damn disheartening.

I saw the Pepsi machine when I picked up Last Lap and had to have it. Picked up the Pepsi machine a few weeks later and had to have the change machine too, man drives a hard bargain!

Soda machine has been setup at work and it’s been a lot of fun. Lots of customers think it’s nifty.

Haven’t done much work with the change machine but it’s nice to have as I’m looking at possibly taking over a local arcade location. We’ll see what the future holds if anyone has experience with starting a company for an arcade museum, I could use some tips

Big fan of Bounty Hunter art work. Never played one, hope I get the chance.

Bounty Hunter is an absolute sleeper! I got a chance to play one at the Myrtle Beach pinball museum and now it’s on my shortlist. Simple, single-level game, a bold move in the mid 80’s, yet I enjoyed it immensely. It’s just simple, clean fun, art package really picks it up too.

Or maybe like this? Just picked this up after playing tag with a flaky CL seller. After failing to show up twice I gave it one last shot and a crazy, old cat lady showed up in a car loaded with stickers declaring “Catitude”
She claims she bought it from an operator in Long Island when she was 18 and has owned it for over 45 years. Amazingly the game actually starts right up and after fixing one bent relay switch, it works pretty darn well!

Kinda cool, never worked on an EM this old!

enjoy the pin.

It’s what the hip kids are saying now. When I first started seeing it on the gram (Instagram), Twitter and such I couldn’t understand it. Then I realized it’s the next “thing” how we use words ironically. Such as “literally” as an exaggeration of figuratively or using “lit” as in hot, which itself meant popular. And now “minute” actually meaning a long amount of time has passed. Example “Been a minute since I last went to a pinball tournament” or “been a minute since my last break from Pinside” (I’ve been on everyday for over 2 years)

They now sit in the back workshop space of the Collective, essentially bringing the total games in our shared space up to 17.

Torpedo Alley is a phenomenal and criminally underrated game.

I got this well-traveled pin, all the way from Spain to Arizona, from a really nice Pinsider in Sierra Vista, Arizona. We went to lunch and I enjoyed talking pinball with him. Rio was made by Playmatic in Spain, as I mentioned, and will make a nice addition to my collection. It has many unique features. As with most Playmatics, the playfield is nearly perfect as is the backglass.

I would like to route it. I hope my customers will appreciate Rio for it's overseas roots and different play. My only concern is finding parts for it. I've never seen some of these parts before. I don't even know what to call some of them! Check out these unique stand-up targets and rubber do-dads:
[quoted image]
[quoted image]
The 'captive ball maze', too, is unique. You must hit the rubber do-dad with the pinball behind it to advance it to the next captive ball position. (The captive ball is hiding at the top of the maze in the above picture because the cabinet is on end. But when the game is set up on it's legs, it is behind one of the rubber do-dads.) The pop bumper caps are one-of-kind too. I've never been a fan of the square design. Maybe they will grow on me. But, for now, the fact that they are so different from the typical pop bumper caps make them a good addition to any collection.
Rio was made in 1977 when the industry was converting from Electro-Mechanical to Solid State. This pin is a hybrid, one of the rare machines with all EM parts except for the sound. An electronic sound card is used in place of the standard chimes, another feature that sets this game apart from the standard fare at the time. I have never heard the sounds produced by this sound card, but I have seen the schematics and the board is very simple with sounds (simple tones?) for 100, 1000 and 10,000 points.
Regarding my collection: Light Speed -> Ridiculous Speed -> Ludicrous Speed -> I've gone to plaid!!

I passed my Playmatic Last Lap Project on to my league friend, but it was only a year later in ‘78 and was one of those weird EM Hybrids. It had a HUGE row of 12 jones plugs and relays jumping into the circuit boards
The parts are unobtainium for these games (at least stateside) mine had a huge bag of broken parts with it probably for reference in case the next guy wants to make his own replacements.

Quoted from northerndude:

People literally don't know how to get the glass off. The first pin I ever bought, the guy said "some bulbs burnt out, didn't know how to get to them"

A lot of operators are like that too. At least they act like they have no clue how to take the glass off LOL

I know I said I didn’t have any money or time to get these... but when they pop up 45 minutes from your house ya gotta make it happen!! Especially a 2 for 1 deal!!

Bally Freedom and I’ll let you guess the other one

Quoted from egyptrus:

That would be awesome. I'm amazed at how often you find this game and the launcher is missing. It makes you wonder what happened to them? I guess it's possible that it's been broken off because it sticks out a bit but it seems to be missing more often than you think it would.
I appreciate you checking for me.
Dave

“Damn I bet this is expensive to replace... better take it off for safe keeping”
*loses it or throws it in some box of random crap*
That’s how I imagine 90% of operator hacks.

I finally cracked into that Freedom I picked up.
Turns out it works 93% the wire just broke off the kickout solenoid so the ball never got served up! Everything fires and counts. Only remaining issue is the saucer switches don’t do anything, and someone butchered the chime unit pretty badly, even though the simple jones plug to unhook it is directly underneath it.
Will probably be selling it since I have the Super Straight to work on.

Quoted from DGMartin:

The World Series is named after a now defunct newspaper that was in New York called The World, since they were the ones that sponsored it.

I’ve always sorta wondered what’s up with that and now I know! See, pinball IS educational!

Quoted from bballfan:

The same guy has another really rare game for sale as well
Goin Nuts, 1983 Gottlieb: 44000
Working condition, playfield in need of restoration, cabinet in good condition, head in good condition. Prototype rare Gottlieb game, less than 10 avail. For serious collectors of rare pinball machines and arcades in need of an ultra rare attraction.
Chris
[email protected], Westwood, New Jersey

Such a cool game. Not a bad time to buy, efforts are underway currently to finish the code and create replacement parts finally. One of only 9 left, the 10th was parted to keep the other 9 going.
Wish I could join the club but it’s not worth nearly that. The only pinball machines truly worth 45k would be:
Total Recall
Bigfoot
(AKA: They aren’t real)

Quoted from jrpinball:

Throw 20k at him, and see what he says.

Probably won’t take it, I tried before. The guys who have one simply aren’t selling unless it’s a silly number. The last guy I talked to said he turned down 45k, perhaps now someone wants to cash in?

Quoted from Murphdom:

My Gottlieb Drop-a-Card arrived. One of Bob Cunningham’s workers dropped it off. It was a Craigslist’s find a few months back. Some guy inherited it after his father who was an electrical engineer passed away. It is an excellent original example and is very clean and responsive. The backglass is a 9/10 with no fading or flaking, cabinet probably an 8/9 because of only one decent sized scratch, and the playfield is a 9 with no planking or wear other than one pencil sized dot of paint missing on the middle of the playfield. Pictures to follow. I got a little over zealous and stripped the playfield right away otherwise I would have posted some.

Drop-A-Card was my first pin in the hobby! What a great EM. Very challenging and a total blast

Quoted from Colsond3:

Got a call for an unknown pin lingering in a house yesterday. Forced me to jump back in the game earlier today after some unexpected surgery and recovery last week.
No pics...but I took the ride. Then this thing magically appeared in my car. I can’t seem to escape this title (which I don’t mind).

Bought some parts from the96stang for my Night Moves! Now it is finally 100% after all this time, plays music, no broken plastics, fully working display!

He basically threw this Stop 'N' Go at me and for a few extra bucks I couldn’t say no!
I’m not afraid of some cheap EMs, especially when they’ve got some nifty gimmicks!
Gonna take a TON of work to get this sucker going, but I’m sure it’ll be a fun project

Quoted from pinzrfun:

Also not a pin, but lotsa musicians on here, and I know how you guys like the thrill of the chase....i won it on eBay with a ridiculously low bid - seller had zero feedback, local pickup only which probably scared people off. Her son moved to Germany years ago and amp was too expensive to ship. She also threw in a 12 string acoustic w/hardshell case, a couple guitar stands and 8 wall hangers. I'm in SE Mich, amp was in Brooklyn, NY, about 1250 miles round trip. I grabbed a co-pilot, left at 5am and back home by 1030pm, including stopping for a couple New York slices, couple photo ops, and picking up some lawn ornaments in PA for the wife.
We made good time [quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

YES, some REAL, authentic Pizza! I feel bad for folks who live in other states. Every state, I always sample the pizza, and at best it tasted like our gas station pizza! It's a travesty! I've found NY, parts of VT and PA are the only spots with good-ass pizza.

Quoted from bluespin:

But Congo, Shadow and Johnny Mnemonic were horrible movies, but great pins.

Johnny Mnemonic is so awful and cringy that I love it. The story behind how that movie got made is even better. Basically they threw as much junk as humanly possible into one script and asked for a HUGE budget and Sony practically jumped out of their seat, check in hand!

Got Nudge-It all setup! It came with all the factory paperwork and envelope. It’s pretty awesome. Even has some of the original cardboard packaging still stapled on the back. The Namco Arcade got the game in, unpacked it and just left it sitting to earn.
Most the rubbers rotted off it so it’s basically extra hard mode!

I’m glad to have this weird little game. It’s pretty addicting. It’s cool to be the second owner of this thing too. Straight from the source!

BOOYA!
After 4 years of searching, I’ve finally secured a wild Granny. Fresh pick from an old operators trailer.
She’s the only game to survive. The rest were totally disintegrated and this Granny isn’t far behind.
This is gonna get a full all-out restoration.
Baby Pac was my second ever game I picked up and I’ve searched for it’s sister game ever since.
I ALSO secured not one but TWO completely populated spare playfields for Granny and the Gators! Talk about an incredible haul!!!

They are still out there if you look hard enough and harass everyone you meet

Quoted from Murphdom:

It was a two pin kind of weekend with no York show. I was on my way back from my second trip after a two and half hour drive and was almost home when I was rear ended and pushed into a truck in front of me that had its rear bumper made out of a steel I-beam. The truck was lifted so I went under it. It was then nice enough to take off.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

Been there done that on the way to Allentown last year. That sucks, glad you’re alright!!! Was the pin in the back when it happened? If so I’m shocked it survived so well.

Quoted from Schusler:

Your Granny was also a Discs of Tron

Quoted from Bax1:

Save that bottom. That is a discs of tron cabinet. Williams sometimes used cabs they had around for bottoms. That’s very cool

Quoted from Murphdom:

For what reason would she get a ticket? Following too close? Maybe? If that’s even a thing where you live. But that’s a stretch. The driver would have to been intentionally riding your tail. We were in heavy traffic and it was just unfortunate.

That happened to me too! 8am rush hour traffic. Lady texting. And in the Allentown thread I had some clown making fun of me for it

Quoted from Ceckitti:

Most def a thing. assured clear distance. If you hit someone from behind (without anyone pushing you into them) I would think that’s a ticket anywhere.

Except in some cases, like mine, where the driver NEVER hit the brakes when she plowed into the first car at 65 mph so I had no warning when she came to a complete dead stop even with a 3-4 second gap, that’s not enough time to come to a complete stop especially in rush hour traffic when nobody lets you have more than a car-length of space!

I had an order of Vewlix clones show up this week along with a Sound Voltex. I've wanted an SDVX for a couple of years now,it's awesome to finally have one! Only one of the Vewlix clones is for me, the rest were bought for friends. [quoted image][quoted image]

Those games are awesome!!! Where do you order those? Looks like those awesome Japanese arcade games. My friend is looking for one of them for her place!

Quoted from AlexRogan84:

Cool looking game. Unique for sure and rare. Agreed on the jumbo DMD and great images. I just watched a gameplay video and it’s quite elaborate what they did with it.
Oddly enough, there is one of these games being advertised locally here in Ontario. It’s listed as being offered as a trade or an outright sale for the right offer. There’s no mention of price or value. Can you give me an idea what one of these should go for right now? Assume it’s in good condition and perhaps that the DMD is working correctly. That large and unusual sized DMD I would imagine is a pricey thing to replace if it is t working correctly. Thanks.

Under 1500 USD is a good price. There are TONS of spare super-sized high-def DMD spares for this game laying around. They seem unobtainium but they aren’t. Just requires some hard work to wrangle one. I LOVE the gameplay. It’s way better with friends, but if you challenge yourself it’s a lot of fun. It probably could use a code update so it has traditional scoring to improve home-use but I love novelty games like this. It is most certainly pinball, nay-sayers have not played it seriously. They probably put one game on it and dismiss it.

Quoted from MrMikeman:

Boring gameplay(it's not a pinball) for a solo player. A bit like fooseball and dome hockey. Fun party game, dust collector otherwise. I know someone in Ontario who got one 6-7 months ago for less than 2k$CAD. These games are often parted out because the boards are worth more than the game. Same boardset as Big Bang Bar.
Things to look for:
DMD is unobtanium and has to be perfect.
Long distance optos at goal are often flaky and don't work correctly (detecting goals when they shouldn't).
Drop targets break all the time and are often replaced with wrong targets.

Many were parted out to make BBBs and get more money. They were hated games. DMD is not unobtainium, that’s nonsense as stated above. Capcom had stock out the wazoo when they closed up shop!
I appreciate the opto advice, I started having that issue after an adjustment for the arcade. Drop targets are original and really don’t break often. Dial down the flipper strength if you’re breaking them.

Just scored a real uncommon dream! This was only 25 minutes away in an Orthodontist office where it’s lived for 8+ years. Never been serviced except for last year when some “tech” “fixed” the issues and by that I mean jacked up the flippers and shorted a bunch of switches.

Still, the price was bonkers, cheaper than most Facebook EMs this will never happen again!image.jpgimage.jpg4AE29260-CAF0-4182-886D-D43353BA699B.jpeg4AE29260-CAF0-4182-886D-D43353BA699B.jpeg2330249B-E65B-4AD0-B098-C788BE63A16F.jpeg2330249B-E65B-4AD0-B098-C788BE63A16F.jpeg1FDB869B-E8C0-46A3-845D-33D3C15D8FB7.jpeg1FDB869B-E8C0-46A3-845D-33D3C15D8FB7.jpeg

Unfortunately their “tech” was a real piece of work. He removed the EOS switches on the flippers and you can see the coils cooked. The game needs some love.
So far it’s cleaned up really really nicely! The huge wear trail is sad, but maybe someone can help me make a water slide to cover it.

Quoted from Taygeta:

You’d be amazed how much this plays like a standard pinball machine.
[quoted image]

Night Moves is the greatest cocktail game made! Congrats! It has a really awesome rule set for such a small game

Quoted from KSUWildcatFan:

I was convinced this was going to fall through but it all worked out great. Left flipper wasn't working but a new coil fixed it. Too bad we lost the feature lamps in the process. The rectifier board is hacked and looks like crap (not surprised) so we'll swap in an xpin and then see where we are on those feature lamps.
Ultimately it's going to become a Quicksilver someday because the cab is horribly painted and the backglass is crap. In the meantime I left it at a friend's so he can play it.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

Galaxy is a great game!! So sad people keep killing them! yes Quicksilver is amazing, but Galaxy is too!

Quoted from KSUWildcatFan:

Random thoughts this morning from helping yesterday with the Galaxy acquisition... I told my friend I didn't have time to bring any EMs back to life (and I don't fix pop machines!) but that I would help him to clear space by selling off some of what he had spent gobs of money accumulating before he let me start guiding him--lol.
Gottlieb Skill Pool - two complete cabinets, three playfields, one brand new backglass and set of plastics (both cabs have complete set of pool balls)
Gottlieb Surf Side - complete, some flaking on BG but decent overall
Williams Doodle Bug custom painted Beetles retheme project - probably not worth much more than random parts/mechs and for a solid cabinet to do something else with -- IMO
Gottlieb Continental Cafe - complete, backglass okay but not great, would be a solid donor for a Woah Nellie build
Bally Dude Ranch bingo (head under the Surf Side in pic 4)
Some other bingo (head under the Surf Side in pic 4)
Pepsi vending machine - doesn't cool but I think he said it works otherwise
He's a bit overwhelmed and I'm not sure the best way to go about getting this all sold for him. Clearly he needs better pictures and it would be nice to have some sort of indication on overall (dys?) function of everything.. I just know he needs them gone and I need him with cash in hand for all the projects I'm going to be doing for him (lol). Any suggestions?
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

Those Pepsi machines are terrible. I believe that model should weigh about 600+ pounds. Hate moving them.
They’re only worth like $200

#21165 2 years ago

My apologies! I did NOT mean to start this war!
I agree that they did make a ton of them so it’s a fair point to use games that had large production numbers. I just worry eventually they’ll end up “rare” like loads of other old EMs and early solid state titles that people used to think sucked and would fit for parts. Remember that back when these were coming out Stern games were basically scoffed at. This whole Classic Stern craze is relatively new.

Good luck to all of your builds though! I wish one of those cheap player Galaxy’s would come up near me!

Quoted from JStoltz:

I think he wired the coin drop switch up to one of the targets so that he wouldn’t have to put quarters in it and credits would rack up during play (facepalm).

If he had that much electrical knowledge to understand how to make that work... why on earth would he do something so dumb...?
At that point just jumper the credit button to the start button! People are so weird

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!

Today I turned 25 and I got woken up by a call from an operator I’ve been working for a few months. He said “I’m done screwing around with these other guys, if you want them all then tell me when you want to get ‘em”
I told him I’d be there in 2 hours!

Here’s my best haul yet, and it was only 20 miles from my house! He bought them all NIB and they’ve sat in the bowling alley for nearly 30 years! The decals look amazing. No fade. Some slight water damage but the games all play and function perfectly!

6 hour round trip for the ugliest translite known to man. At least the game is fun and the playfield is nice. Now, does anyone out there have a lockdown bar?
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

Quoted from snyper2099:

It will be hard to track this down. Most DE games of that era had black lockdown bars. When I needed one years ago, I actually had to buy a black one, sand it, and polish it.

Quoted from gdonovan:

Early Data East have stainless finish and interchange with classic Stern.

I have a Monday Night Football with a stainless steel lockdown bar, but all the trim is black. It really seems like it was supposed to be black.
It is the 6th game by DE. I always figured mine was swapped for a Stainless because the black ones were harder to find

Easy solution, just buy them anytime a cheap pin turns up!

Quoted from AJGross:

Picked this up yesterday. $500. It looked much nicer in the pics from the seller. It came with a ton of problems at no extra charge. Displays don't come on. MPU doesn't boot. This is going to be a lengthy refurbish.
[quoted image][quoted image]

Holy crap, is that a Diamond Lady off to the side??? Snag it quick!

Quoted from Taygeta:

Craigslist find. Seller was super friendly and had a few other pins I may be making a return trip for. I’m out of room, but there’s always ways to get creative spreading pins around.
It’s been a while since I’ve owned a 70s/early 80s pin. I prefer modern games usually, but earlier games have a unique charm about them that the games of today lack.

Picked up 2 Neo Geo’s, Primal Rage, Site 4 Area 51, a janky ass old Centipede Cocktail, a totally jacked Pac-Man cocktail turned into a Tetris, and finally the best part...
THE MACHINE: BRIDE OF PINBOT

TWILIGHT ZONE

And finally the cream of the crop OH YEAAAAAAH!

I never ever thought the day would come where I own Addams Family and TZ.

Bride is mine and it’s going into the arcade! Come play it in you’re near Toga.

My body is blown right out. Moving and transporting and delivering all these games in just a few hours was brutal. Some games were dumped. They all survived with only very minor scuffs and scratches. Most the arcades will be listed for sale as I have no interest in them. Neo Geo’s too!

My birthday bash pickup:
Lethal Weapon 3
World Cup Soccer
Dr. Dude

We then did pre-halloween pickup of:
Twilight Zone
Addams Family
The Machine: Bride of Pin•Bot
And a buttload of arcades:
2 Neo Geo’s
Primal Rage
Site 4 Area 51
Centipede Cocktail
Arkanoid Cocktail

Finally I snagged the 2nd to last machine he had left:

I'm trying to help my friend straighten up his bad situation after getting "taken" several times early on when he got into the hobby and was unfortunately very naive. He brought Galaxy (I actually pushed him to buy this ugly thing for CHEAP because someday I'm going to convert it to a QS) and two Doodle Bugs. One has been.....poorly half-rethemed. Not really sure what to do with it to be honest, I'm thinking it might be best served as parts to other projects at this point.. it's a mess.
My shop is starting to look like a damn homeless camp: two mata hari hardtops (in progress), a night moves with weird flipper coil overheating issues, my wife's Roy Clark that's been shopped out but still needs a drop target replaced, my buddy's LAH that I've gotten working except sound (waiting on new sound ROMs) and now these three. Sheesh.
We did get to play a few games on my newest additions before he left town: bad cats and LOTR. High praise from both of those which made me happy since I've done a lot of work on both.

This head turns out to be the long-lost mate for the body I have. The husband was getting divorced, the wife took the heads and sold them to a local pinball guy about a half hour away.
He died less than a year later, and some covid-Pinballer with more money than brains bought all of them to “fix”
So he spent several months trying to make a Mini Pool (AAB) head fit onto a Target Pool (Replay) body.
Obviously doesn’t work, but can’t help those types!

I’m very grateful for Murphdom negotiating for this mismatched pair! Love Mini Pool and I’m so thrilled I can play my own.

Another busy week! Picked up Old Coney Island, then picked up a changer, then drove out to a bizarre hoarder house with torn apart cars, 3 foot tall grass, and huge heaps of scrap metal and JUNK everywhere.

We pull up to this land of country-bumpkins, and way out, 300 yards from the road is this BEAUTIFUL candy crane, flashing and singing away. Surreal.
As we loaded they tried giving us one of their 9 cats. We politely declined and got the hell out of there.

These have always interested me.

What parts to Hankin’s use? Are they any good?

Quoted from dirkdiggler:

Not a pin or even a machine, but a super cool find for the gameroom today at a yard sale. Has a roulette wheel also. All the felt is like new. Debating whether to strip, sand and stain it. Either way, game night at the digglers just got more fun

Picked up a Class of ‘81 Reunion last Friday and brought it right over to Fandom Fest, a new local comic-con type event. It got over 333 plays in 3 days!!

I don’t have any good pics of it, surprisingly, but love this machine!!! And there’s a secret code that lets you play OG Pac-Man: Up, Up, Up, Down, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, Left.

Also got my Sorcerer running the prior Thursday and had that out for the event! The sounds are unparalleled. Sorcerer had over 350 plays on it!

I told her 2500 would have been a fair asking price...pinside estimate is 2400-2800. Yeah she was pretty bummed. This wasn't a machine I normally would go after but for the price I would've loved to take it home, oh well. About the 3rd time this year I missed out on a super low priced machine...I need to change my alert settings or something.

Lol, 2k for Street Fighter II is insane especially in Iowa! They sit all the time for that money. It’s just an awful game.
Price was fine!

I brought 2 Team One’s to Mike over at Past Times Arcade (Rob Berk’s place) for @pinhead52’s Wizard builds back in October right before Expo. It was quite a haul, a thousand miles! (A little foreshadowing for the real big trip) That brutal storm that came through was rough. Barely stayed on the highway!
Luckily I was able to tag on the back of a trucker convoy. Every time I would get too far behind, hydroplaning and fighting to stay on the road, one of the trucks would hang back, let me catch his tail and ride along back up.

Went to 9, yes NINE hotels and every single one was totally booked, no vacancy.
I packed lunch, dinner and the next day’s lunch to keep it as cheap as possible! Ate dinner in the car, contemplating the lengths we go for pinball...8F302E16-D06C-4840-9106-796FC9B53ABF.jpeg8F302E16-D06C-4840-9106-796FC9B53ABF.jpeg
Slept in the car in a parking lot, then after 2 hours whoever was overnight decided to turn on the lights in the lot I was in. No sleep, I guess.

Decided to say screw it, got some T-bell for Breakfast, that Crunchwrap is too damn good.12844F02-92AE-4501-9D5D-EEBA5EDCB956.jpeg12844F02-92AE-4501-9D5D-EEBA5EDCB956.jpeg Then dropped the games off. 4AE137CD-8FDB-4E91-BD3C-448BEDBB07EC.jpeg4AE137CD-8FDB-4E91-BD3C-448BEDBB07EC.jpegSpent about 5 hours playing the impressive and unusual collection of rare foreign machines. Terrific Lake was turned off because apparently the attract mode is an ear-piercingly loud scream, that CANNOT be turned off. I wanted to hear it but the guys were having none of it. A random scream in that giant building have lead to plenty of “goddammit” moments. Can’t wait till it’s open. It will be worth it, and give PHOF a run for its money. What a great team behind that place, doing whatever needs to be done so that games are working the way they should!

That whole round trip to Ohio ended up only costing me less than $200 with gas and snacks. Now THAT is pinballing on a budget!

Fast forward to December, last month, and I rescued my games from a startup that got stuck in development-hell.
Finally brought Strikes N’ Spares back home, missed that game. Glad to have it back.
Also was given a game from an operator I’ve been buying from. An old, moldy Silverball Mania... oh well, can’t complain!

And now...
for the New Year!
This is gonna be a big one, fellas...

Been a while since I’ve posted in this thread. Saratoga Silverball did a pinball and arcade event at the local community college! Averaged about 300 plays for Sorcerer and BOP, about 150 on the others. Pac-Man/Galaga got slammed with 400+ plays607C64DB-6E64-47B2-9589-5C77C28F72D9.jpeg607C64DB-6E64-47B2-9589-5C77C28F72D9.jpeg503811D0-11EC-4991-A1AB-21BAAFA8EE39 (resized).jpeg503811D0-11EC-4991-A1AB-21BAAFA8EE39 (resized).jpegVery cool to be bringing pinball back in a big way to the local area.

SCORE SCORE SCORE.

Allentown was a blast, but everyone was asking “why are you only staying for a few hours when it’s almost a 4 hour drive both ways?!?” I couldn’t risk blowing this.

bluespin you are the best. I own you a lobster dinner!
This estate sale was only 25 minutes from my house. I went into this thinking there is no way I’m gonna snag it, always miss it by a hair! We got there a half hour early and the entire cul-de-sac was full of cars. The whole road was lined with cars. There was no way some other pinhead wasn’t already in line, ready to pounce.

We got there and had to sign up for either the house or the barn. Did my research and knew exactly where it was. They lined us up and some guy behind me started talking “oh yeah they’ve got an old pinball in there, can’t wait ” and I told him, “yeah, we’ve been checking it out!” Good to get a read on the crowd. Asked the estate sale guy what they were asking and he said $XXXX. The guy behind me balked and said “they only sell for $700-$900!”
Not sure what universe he lives in... either way, they gave us all numbers and Taffy and I were one number ahead of the other guy. ONE NUMBER. Only because he signed up for the wrong one first!!

We got in there and booked it right down to the basement. There it was, in all its glory tucked next to 3 Christmas trees and a huge craps table. The room next door was a sauna and a massive hot tub. Dude’s basement had THREE bathrooms.
Can’t imagine the wild party’s he must have thrown!

I’m still in awe. Cannot believe I’m posting this sitting next to the most beautiful Alien Star I’ve laid eyes on. It has the name and handwritten notes from a longtime local tech, with everything that was wrong with it and what was fixed. It’s really such a nice survivor, and I am grateful to everyone who’s helped me score deals like this and rescue these machines from boneheads who suggest forcing the head down as hard has possible,

37 days later, NEW MACHINE! My cousin alerted me to an estate sale about 25 miles away with a very rare Pre-War pinball machine!

Looked it up on Pinside and other sites and only saw ONE other example, @walrusnips! IMG_4285.jpegIMG_4285.jpeg

1934 Safety Zone by Scientific Machine Corp, manufactured in BROOKLYN!! How cool is that?! It’s fully working, for a GREAT price!

IMG_4284.jpegIMG_4284.jpeg
It lights up and releases the ball gates for the bonus lane when you land in the “Traffic Light” Free Play hole. There is also a bonus post activated by the aluminum “Safety Zone” strip up top. Revolutionary 1934 technology!

The previous owner unfortunately broke the glass, but that’s easy to replace. It has all the balls, and is complete! I plugged it in right then and there and tried it out and the estate sellers were absolutely mystified. Took the opportunity to teach a 30 minute lecture on the history of pinball and how many of these Pre-War machines were scrapped for metal during the war effort or destroyed as immoral gambling devices during the pinball bans from the 1940s trough the mid 1970s

This is my first working Pre-War machine, and I’m really glad to have a cool piece of NYS local history. Was a nice hour drive round trip this morning, right before work.

Quick jaunt over to Vermont to buy some of the last few pieces from a retired operator.

Not a pinball, but got a 7’ Stinger Air Hockey and a Foosball table thrown in. Didn’t really want toe Foosball but they guy literally wouldn’t let me leave without it even after I told him I wouldn’t pay for it. I’ll clean it up and enjoy it for a bit!

And that makes 50! IMG_6196.jpegIMG_6196.jpeg keep forgetting to take full trailer pics. (picture taken after 2 games and all the heads were removed)

Who woulda thought from one game, to 7 years later, several locations and 50 machines at one time! Throwback to my 2nd ever game pickup post way back in this thread.

Quoted from Isochronic_Frost:

Went to White Rose Gameroom Show in York, picked up Wrestlemania for a client.
IMG_7302.jpegIMG_7302.jpeg Had a great time with Taffy, who now demands I buy a Roadshow. Thanks a lot whoever brought that! Another game I have to keep an eye out for…

Met up with friends and played lots of great classics. I always enjoy the EMs and wood rails and laid-back atmosphere of the York show.

After York hit up a sushi bar and then picked up an instant EM collection! See if you can ID the games based off cab alone

Drove through the night into the early morning, but I’ll do anything for pinball

Will post pics once the EMs are setup. Few more pics of the haul while organizing at the arcade.

Was able to pick this one up from a friend. Such a fun game

Wow, that’s a reimport. Not many of them made, mine is a blast! Great in a big collection.

Not many made. Surprised one went overseas and came back in one piece, especially considering how people were parting these out like crazy just a few years ago!

Just got another “free” game unexpectedly!
There really wasn’t enough space to fit, but it’ll be a cold day in hell before I turn down a pinball!

This arrived yesterday night! IMG_9118.jpegIMG_9118.jpegIMG_9121.jpegIMG_9121.jpegIMG_9132.jpegIMG_9132.jpeg

Unexpected trade, not something I normally do, but decided to give it a try.

Shaq Attaq is out, and I already miss it!

Great way to start my Saturday morning! Huge thanks to Raven69er for making this connection and allowing me to purchase this amazing piece of history!! 1947, First machine to have player controlled flippers, ushering in the new era of pinball.

The original owner received this as a gift in high school sometime in the early 60s and has been in his possession ever since. Now that his brothers and parents have passed on and he’s much older, he wanted it to go to a good home.

This will be a fantastic historically significant addition to my new space opening this summer. This game is in INCREDIBLE shape with only 9k plays on the meter! It was spray painting back in the 50s or 60s before the original owner received it, but the spray paint is bubbling off and original is underneath, it looks decent. Hopefully it can be uncovered without too much issue.
After about 20 minutes, I was able to get it playing, now onto rebuilding the flippers and replacing all the broken parts to the bells.

Quoted from Colsond3:

1947 I believe and the first game with flippers. Wish it was a little bit of a better player, but definitely a piece of history. Congrats on that one.
There was a guy 20 miles from me that had a fully restored one for sale a few years ago that I passed on. Kind of regret it.

Yes! I thought I mentioned that, added to the post. First player-controlled flipper game, I was quite happy to pick one up! It’s not a great player, but it’s so important to pinball history!

Quoted from Nyraiderfan:

Great idea on the handles where would someone be able to get them?

Quoted from Wmsfan-GAP:

I was curious as well, I like those..

Quoted from RumRunner9:

Great question, I too want a set.
Probably need to find a local guy to fabricate.

Quoted from PinJim:

Add me to the list, would make loading / unloading way easier.

Quoted from jrcmlc:

We have something like this in the works, not ready for sale yet but soon. Thought I had the original idea, clearly not the only one lol.

These came up in this very thread 3 years ago! They seem to be near-exclusively owned by PinballManiac40 and it was mentioned someone else made them.
There was a green set that came up in the secret Santa thread a few years back aswell. It seems like people have been begging for these for a while!

Quoted from PinballManiac40:

A local collector made these "pin moving handles" for me after I had repaired his TAF and TZ for reset issues. He doesn't seem interested in making more really since [he] had cut and welded every piece himself.

I mentioned to him that I have some older legs he can cut up to see if it speeds up his process. Maybe something will come out of that.

It appears they’re custom made by cutting pinball legs and welding the handle on the side. I couldn’t find anything else in my research, as I would also love a pair of these things! This would solve my butterfingers helper from dropping nearly every game he helps me move.

Quoted from GregCon:

Those handles were PinballManiac's idea that I made. They are not made from legs that are cut up....they are made of chome-moly tubing welded to steel angle. I made a batch of them but they've all been sold. You can make 'cheap' version pretty easily....but if they break and you drop a game....
[quoted image]

Mystery solved!!! If you ever make a batch before jrcmlc makes some, please put me on the list. Definitely could use them and the leverage idea for getting them over the “seat hump”!

6 years later after picking up my 2nd game ever, I finally snagged it’s sister game, Caribbean Cruise, locally. It was only a half hour from my house!

Boarding my cruise soon, just need a deep clean! Only 2 owners, 2nd owner bought it from his boss back in 1999 for a Y2K party, and told me some awesome stories about getting raided and storing coke in the machine. Turns out he was great friends with my dad and when he was getting booked, he heard from a cell, “HEY MIKEY! You let me know if you need anything” and it was my fuckin dad in county. LMAO, he was the guy. “Your father was like The Fonz. He decided who was ‘cool’ and who was a nerd”

Awesome experience. Always wanted this game, and it was cool that this guy knew my dad from way back and had tons of crazy stories of the shit they used to pull. His passing is the whole reason that got me into pinball.

Having this line up, feels like it’s his way of telling me I’m doing alright.

More photos after a minor cleaning. I’m playing it for as long as my pin OCD will allow before I tear it down for the deep clean. LEDs coming later this week. It needs them, it’s very dim even with new incandescent.

This game really is HUO. Only 10k plays on the meter, the seller didn’t even know how to get into the menus. He said if he knew that he would have reset the high scores ages ago because he could never beat them!

IMG_1424.jpegIMG_1424.jpeg

Some more photos of the machine. I’ve been looking for years and was about to spring on one down south. Luckily the seller ghosted me and just a couple weeks later this pops up locally.
This game cleaned up really nicely. Already put over 200 games on it. Caribbean Cruise is a ridiculously fast game.
I’ll have to update my rankings. They make a great pair.
Night Moves has incredible flow, really impressive for such a small game.
Caribbean Cruise flows like a flat tire. However, it has that unique “multiple mini playfield” feel, common in Gottliebs of this era. The upper left, the middle, and the left side loop, all feel distinct and have their own “modes” to shoot for.
Over all, I’m really enjoying this machine, more so than I ever expected. Both of the 90s cocktails done by Gottlieb are fast and punishing, highly recommend playing them if you ever get a chance!
