Quoted from shacklersrevenge:Picked up this FREE Black Rose today
You can't leave us hanging like that. What is the story behind it? Every pick up has a story behind it, especially if it's free.
Quoted from shacklersrevenge:Picked up this FREE Black Rose today, cabinet has nearly all the color and no playfield wear (look at that cannon) pretty awesome.
Someone in CLE on Craigslist is trying to get $4K for his. What is the back story on your find?
Story is, my niece works at a restore and they don't take arcade/pinball games. Her co worker who does the pickups on things like furniture and appliances, mentioned to my niece about a pinball machine an old lady just wanted to get rid of in her basement, kids and grandkids had grown, etc and she just wanted it gone. (my niece had told them I was into pinball so that's why he gave her the heads up)
I had forgotten my tools on the way over to get it, and all I had was a pair of plyers and a flat head, and wouldn't you know, no key for the headbox. Hacking that lock wasn't fun but I had to, because the bolt was in there preventing the head from going down.
I guess she had it for around 20 years in a windowless basement, the batteries were dated for 1999. Playfield was black/dirty but wiped it down and is easily the nicest Black Rose I've seen. Plays like new too. First free to come along.

That is a epic find you need to go see that old lady and buy her something nice like some flowers and a lotto ticket or something as a thank you a little goes a long way even if you dont still a awesome score well done

Bought this on eBay a few days ago. Days went by after I paid and heard nothing from the seller despite repeated requests for information. Finally started getting 1-5 word texts spread 1-2 hours apart (if you've had this happen you know how aggravating it is). We set a pickup time. I drove 3 hours and was there on the dot. He hadn't gotten out of bed yet. Ice was on the stairs leading out of the house. The silver lining is the kid and his family were nice and helpful and I didn't kill myself going down the stairs.
Why drive 3 hours for a Blue Chip? Grand Rapids MI to Chicago is a routine trip for me so I don't think in terms of hours. It's just "a drive." Also, it's the first EM I ever worked on years back, love the colors and surprisingly fun gameplay for a machine with no drop targets.

I love Blue Chip.
I found this on Letgo last night and was cheap and close enough to just run and grab it. It's been in a large garage for years, rubbers were toasted, there's some pretty good planking but the paint is still holding tight. The backglass is in amazing condition. I was surprised considering the environment it sat in.
If you're not on Letgo I suggest you get on there. Craigslist still has a bigger market but anyone with a phone (which is everyone) is using these newer apps now. The ease of use is comical.

Only the baddest of ass dads collect pins, son.
Quoted from Cserold:Who is first to name the title? (Probably easy one for this crew)
Elvis?
edit: nevermid...I can see Midway on the back sticker now
Quoted from Cserold:Who is first to name the title? (Probably easy one for this crew)
Has to be Escape from the Lost World. I think it's the only Midway game without that crappy cabinet artwork with the ball on the side.
Quoted from Andyzola87:Straight traded my JD for this Roadshow. Game looked to be HUO.
Quoted from yzfguy:Wow, that's a nice RS!
+1 on that. You made out better on that deal IMO, even if your JD was nice.
Quoted from Bugsy:Dat license plate
Thanks! Was a suggestion from the "help me pick a plate" thread.
Quoted from dirkdiggler:Spidey looks lonely in that empty space. Looks like someone cleaned shop and left a pin behind
Quoted from PeterG:Or it will be the beginning of something beautiful.....
The winner is: PeterG. I'm putting pins in this brewery here in Richmond, VA.
Colsond3 The guy I traded with had only has room for one machine and he had already played through this RS multiple times. He got bored with it and Judge Dredd was on his list of games he wanted. He provided me with a title that I felt would do better on location and I provided him with a title that will hopefully last him a while and keep him busy. I personally like JD better then RS, but I need pins that will bring in money and I feel RS will do much better then JD. It wasent about the worth of the machines, it was about two guys helping each other out and I think that's what makes this hobby awesome .
Quoted from melappels:Bringing this baby back from the dead !
Nice - now that's one project pin I have been looking for.
Quoted from melappels:Bringing this baby back from the dead !
Wow, that looks lke a big project. Was that in a flood? If so, you may want to insure there was no sewage that got into it. No sense gettign super sick bringing a pin back. Good luck on the restore!
