Quoted from cottonm4:

Nice looking pin. I like how Gottlieb managed to get Star Trek in there. They did not call it Star Trek which would have had the Hollywood lawyers busy hanging paper. But it is Star Trek.

They did call it Star Trek on the export add-a-ball version, would love to get one of those.

They did call it Star Trek, but only on export games, likely to avoid those lawyers.

Quoted from sixtyfourbits:

Just brought this one home in a straight trade for some retro videogames. Can anyone identify it by the cabinet art? I think it should be tricky, but some pinsider here will likely have it solved super fast.

Just to add a few more pics now that it’s title was guessed so quickly. I think the captive ball area on this one is pretty neat. I'm looking forward to getting it playing again. The previous owner said that it was working, but when he moved it across his house about a year ago it stopped.

Playmatic playfields tend to hold up real well. My Jolly Ride playfield looks brand new.

Quoted from PlanetExpress:

17hr round trip to snag this rare one…. Condition is great and backglass is perfect, totally worth the $s and the drive.

The artwork on Astro is beautiful. Some limit the era of modernist pinball art to the creations of Jerry K. Kelley and Christian Marche for Bally & Williams from 1965-75, but clearly others of this era were influenced by modern art trends. Gordon Morrison for '71 Gottlieb Astro/Star Trek featured brighter, varied colors and almost a pop art look.

Well part of a machine. Good friend hooked me up with a nice original cabinet which is a major upgrade to the one I have.

This has got to be one of the nicest Johnny Mnemonics I’ve ever seen. All original. I actually lost out on it the first time around on FB. Owner needed some loot for a VW restore so when it popped up on Pinside I happily took it off his hands. It was meant to be. May be Gomez’s best shooter! According to him it is

Can anybody tell me how picking up a NIB from a FedEx terminal works? Does fedex call you when it is ready for pickup? Do they bring it out to you on a forklift? Do they allow you to take it out of the box to get it into your car?

You can track it so you know if its close, they will call You .Go inside the office do paperwork and go to the dock they will help You load.Yes they likely will bring it on a forklift.I open mine to inspect for damage.Never left the box but I think You can.

Hey ..great minds think a like! Also got sorcerer today. My third pin. The previous owner (local guy) has a nice collection which he let me flip a few games I had never gotten to play so that was awesome. He replaced the playfield and all plastics, and game is playing perfectly. Most balls are brutal but every now and then I have a good one. Need to work on my ramp shot.
I've got the old playfield. It's trashed but I'll hang it up in the garage.

I've never seen or heard of Hyperball till now...WOW. Really cool. Looks like something that breaks often though...and how do you keep the coils from overheating from such constant rapid fire?

There is only 1 coil for the shooter. It has a fan on it to keep it cool. Here's a pic of it from when I had mine.

Quoted from Sandman33:

The Hyperball coil is quite special. It’s ultra-high voltage (for a pin) at 120V DC. As such, it doesn’t overheat nearly as much as lower-voltage coils. There’s a special board to supply voltage for this and the ball-return motor. There’s also a 120V AC fan that cools the coil.

And yes, it’s a maintenance nightmare, especially on-route. As a home game, it’s fun as hell.

Jurassic came home with me today. Got the nod of approval from the boss. I always let her play the first game when I bring one home, kind of a little thing we have been doing for years.
Usually the only game she ever plays on them but this time she played for 30 mins, turned to me and said this one stays.

Divorce has let me be able to put a pin in my living room..lol

Plus find a girlfriend who digs pinball .

Good day after a tough year.
