Quoted from KSUWildcatFan:

Crappy old playfields are never going to be swapped back into anything, it just wouldn't make any sense to spend the time doing it.

From parking lot wall hanger to being played in public at Pintastic in 90 days.

It does happen.

Great looking Beatles pin!

#25653 1 year ago
Quoted from ThatOneDude:

I see worn out playfields and get the itch to turn them into homebrew mashup games. Turn that beast into a weird coffee table cocktail pin with Mars Attacks sound bites.
I did manage to pick up a "crappy" Scared Stiff pf left over from someone's playfield swap. I was going to use it for art, but when I picked it up, it just had the normal wear around the holes that will get covered up by cliffys, so it's getting swapped right back into my Scared Stiff. It was quite a score!

Building a complete homebrew game sounds like a complete nightmare to me, tbh. I've got 9 cocktails, two hardtops (Mata Hari), and a Gorgar all needing attention in my shop as it is. Drowning in projects that belong to friends. At least I can see light at the end of the tunnel on many of those. Can't wait to try out the new Gameplan MPU that's supposed to arrive today -- those are 4 of the cocktails I'm working with!

It's certainly possible to come across a B+ playfield that someone swapped out, for whatever reason, and that might be perfectly fine to just throw back into a game (I'd probably opt for touchup/reclear at a minimum, if I'm going through the effort of a swap, but that's just me) but this AFM definitely wasn't that. It'll look great inset into a table or on a wall..but that's about it.

I followed that one closely. I admire your skill, it's far better than mine. lol.

It's hard for me to find more than a few minutes at a time to work on things, too. Makes it incredibly difficult to accomplish all that much.

I had an elderly couple tell me it played just like the Beatles at Pintastic, it took a lot of self control to not utter something inappropriate.

The stars certainly did align on that one to come together as it did.

Colsond3 Nice lineup. I used to have a Phantom and really miss it I put a NOS playfield in it. Oh well, cant keep them all. However, never was much of a fan of the Freddy game. But, I sure do love Class of 1812! #luckydog

I hear that. But I just gotta scratch the itch
There's a homebrew based on a Demo Man about 5 feet in front of me, one that is getting art next week in the garage, and 3 more in storage waiting a spot. None of those are counting the playfield swap I'm doing on Scared Stiff!

Mad respect to those who can really innovate with this hobby. I'm lucky if I can just get things playing and keep them that way lol.

I'm pretty good at the "sweat equity" types of tasks though, like scrubbing and polishing playfields. You know, the brain dead tasks literally anyone can do

I learned my lesson when I posted about hanging a Star Race playfield

Only 874 produced. I imagine you took some heat.

I know someone who has a decent Star Race back glass but I don't know anybody who is needing one.

When I sold my Star Race a guy reached out with a nos populated playfield for $300 cdn. I bought and sold it with the game. I do wonder if the playfield swap ever happened?

I also have an amazing Star Race back glass sitting in a corner of my basement. Have tried selling it a few times but no interest at all. I won't give it away so that someone can wall mount it. I'll hang on my own wall first...

Ya this Po Boy very rarely buys working games. Pretty much stick with projects but get that same excitement finding them bringing them home and back to life. So it for sure needs a cleaning and going through.

First 60’s wedgehead…. I’ve been looking for one, so happy to see one pop up locally (10miles)

Playfield and backglass are pretty good (a spot of wear and a bit of bubbling), cab is decent except for the repainted head.

It plays excellent too. I never had one in the collection, before today. You’ve got a solid current lineup and we have similar taste as shown in your past collection. Nice one

These 2 machines in my cramped basement gameroom - accessed by a narrow stairs which turns 180 degrees followed by a hallway and right-hand turn into the gameroom sent me on a quest for a used Escalera. Finally found one! I can’t recommend these enough. The cost is less than my medical insurance deductible, so….
