3 hr drive down to buy a Diner...which was a bit rough. Seller had about 10 machines he was looking to part with so came home with a nicer Whirlwind instead. On the way home wife says "if you wanted any of his other machines make sure you let him know before he lists them for sale"... ...this sounds suspiciously like PERMISSION to me!!!
So, we have now our 7th Pat Lawlor machine...only NGG, Dialed In, and perhaps Safe Cracker left that I'd like to add. And of course "Toy Story" since that was the first movie date with the wife. Shes already excited about that one.

Very nice condition. Someone did a nice restore job on it before my seller got it. BG is too nice for mid70s. Thinking it may be a reproduction.

Congrats on the new acquisition. Got that piece in the mail for you yesterday, there's no need to fear.

Mid-70's Bally BG hold up really well, you would be surprised.
Congratulations on the game! Even more for having an understanding wife!

Two games in the same week. Geez, do I have a problem.....! And you people here keep acting as enablers...!!
Thank you Jimmyhonda for an incredible game. You do NOT find F14s in this good a shape very often!

Acquiring this game is a bit of an emotional backstory. My dad used to play F-14 in the arcades, and he would often tell me about how he wanted to bring one home back in 1992-1995. I was all of 11 to 14 back then, and I remember the sheer excitement of the idea of having a pinball machine in the house.
While we were a middle class family, the idea of owning a pinball machine just seemed like another world - like we'd easily be the coolest house in the neighbor hood. Sadly, this dream did not become reality as other things came up, and we had to pass on the opportunity. Still, it was Dad's favorite pinball machine, and I wanted to get one.

Vehicle that has transported Transformers: Autobots Edition, Jurassic Park Pro, Harlem Globetrotters, and now F-14 - a 2015 Honda Fit EX. It is my little workhorse.

Fast forward to now, and with prices going up so fast, I knew I needed to get one soon. Dad is 75, and he has had some nasty battles with cancer. There were two dreams he wanted to make come true. One was acquiring an original Shelby Cobra - and I've done the best I can with a 1965 Shelby Roadster MK2 from F5. The other was to bring F-14 home, and now I have done it.
The goal is to bring him down from Wisconsin to Dayton soon, and we go for a ride in the Roadster and play some F-14 together. Better late than never.
I did tell him and show him the above pictures already. In his words: "I'm jealous!!!"
My response: "Don't be, Dad! You'll get to play it when you come over. I'll even put it on free play for you." ; )

The glass was redone by BG Resto, including a topless version . However, as gdonovan said, many Bally backglasses of that era hardly ever flake.
Most are multi-player games. I've never seen a flaky "Old Chicago" backglass, for example. Many others as well.

Post a photo of him playing it when it happens!

My wife already nixed the topless version. My games are at work and she doesn’t think it would be appropriate .

This one is mint.

Quoted from dirkdiggler:Nice to see all these F14s. It's in my top 5 game list. Still miss it and think of it routinely.
It’s a cool game for sure. I dig the top gun type Theme. cool sounds, lighting effects/flashers, and playfield. Gotta love good ol’ system 11s

Just tonight my wife was talking about seeing the new Top Gun movie. I took the opportunity to bring up getting an F14. The ploy worked and it’s now at the top of the list for my next pin!

I think it has the best lightshow in all of pinball. Set up fast and brutal It's one of the best shots in pinball when you lock that 4th ball and the siren goes off and the beacons start flashing, waiting for the mayhem about to start. Absolutely love it. Ha hahahaha
Quoted from BenB:My 3 year old is always excited for “new pinball day”. It’s a rough one, but it’s all there and Iam excited for my next project.

GREAT photo!! Frame that one and hang it in the gameroom someday.
F-14s are ALWAYS a project. I just finished restoring mine and it seems to be one of the worst-surviving pins of all time. Inserts always raised, cabinet flaking, typical stuff. Good luck and congrats!

Last Action Hero is awesome, get the "aftermarket" rom.
Quoted from PinAL:bigguybbr what is retrobriting, and where do I get it? That looks amazing! Does it work for colors other than white?
Thanks in advance!
My guess its soaking them in a hydrogen-peroxide solution and placing them under a black lamp (UV), very common in the console restoration community.

It sure did. Lots of steps and around 200m uphill to go, would've been a nightmare without it...

Now that looks much better than the one with all those crazy aftermarket stickers all over it. Just my opinion. You also have an earlier run with the clear white dome and rear play field lenses. Always preferred those over the opaque white ones.
Purchased a Dale jr. We are 2nd owner. The original owner purchased it NIB in 2007 because he was a Dale jr fan. The pin has never been cleaned or serviced. It had the original batteries in it. It showing a low number of plays.

Exactly. You soak your yellowed plastics in a solution of hydrogen peroxide and Oxyclean and leave it in the sun. Works like a champ.

The owner had no idea it had batteries behind the back glass.
