Last week we picked up a Strato Flite, which is the first EM in our collection. I spent some time on Sunday setting it up, replacing any bulbs that were out, changing out all the rubber, and giving it a general once over. All switches register and score correctly when hit. The only issue is the score reels resetting after a game. Players 1/3 had the same stuck digit for a while, but now player 2 sometimes gets in on the action and player 1's problematic digit seems to have changed. I have to figure out how to tackle this. It plays great when I reset everything manually.
IMG_5860 (resized).JPGIMG_5870 (resized).JPGWeekend score story! Just got them setup today though.
Early Sunday morning, I was sitting on the couch, casually checking my eBay saved searches. Some games popped up for sale in Dallas that seemed like they might be too good to be true. Since it was eBay, I figured, low risk on my part. i could file a claim and get a refund.
I calmly turn to my partner and tell her, “So I just bought a Lord of the Rings pinball machine “
I had my doubts since the seller had 0 feedback and the games looked really nice for the price. But they were all pictured in the same room. I had selected “pick up” as my shipping option. Hours pass on in the day, I don’t hear anything from the seller. I temper my expectations.
Finally, sometime in the afternoon I get a message with a phone number. We exchange some texts and I am suddenly hitting the road to Dallas!
Well-to-do medical professional (doctor?) downsizing from maybe the nicest home I’ve ever been allowed inside. Pins were some of the last things in there. eBay didn’t allow him to list them all, being a new user, so he had a couple more to sell! All his games were HUO, including the LOTR he bought in 2004 (but it got its fair share of play as his favorite and longest running game. HUO is a silly and meaningless term). Anyway, I had a choice between a minty Walking Dead Premium or Game of Thrones Premium. Neither have been themes on my radar but I read so much about Lyman’s code on TWD, and when he named his price, I nearly bit my own tongue off before saying “how do I pay you?” If I could’ve fit the GOT, I would’ve taken it too. It up being sold to a dealer in California over the phone while I was there with him. Think Stern Pro prices pre-explosion. Quite a score.
Super nice guy, helped me load them down the stairs (I would’ve died solo). Mini-vans are the best pin haulers.
Excited to finally get some solid time on both of these. LOTR has been a longtime want for my brother. We have never even played a TWD Premium before! Need to figure out why the magnets aren’t working but otherwise it’s perfect.

Hey JP, is your room full atm or has that revolving door been spitting a few out of late?
Nah mate it hasn’t been full for ages. Too expensive this hobby for me now. I’ve got 2 coming on a slow boat from US, taking about 6-7 months now from pick up by Beltman to delivery here by me or bill. One is a bit of a surprise I’ll let you know when they arrive.
I had a long day at work. At the end of my regular day I went to grab this. Then I get called back to work dragging myself back in with a pinball machine strapped to my truck. Just got home I’m exhausted sorry for the bad pics and my cigar photo bombing one of them.
Backglass has fair amount of flaking but it’s still presentable.
Another Kordek/ Marche game I love his artwork.

Excited to add a super nice Diner just over an hour away. One of my favorite back glasses. Really fun Sys11!

Embarrassed?
Nonsense! That's a pair of beauties right there.
There was a time when no bowling alley was
complete without a good Gottlieb against the wall.
Enjoy
Unfortunately, the best part of LH is the backglass.. cabinet and PF are basically beyond worthwhile repair. I'm going to make it work just for the practice
Quoted from BubbaK:PF are basically beyond worthwhile repair
with some effort you may be surprised how it comes out !

Looks like it has potential to me. EMs are easier to repaint since its mostly big geometric shapes.

Agreed. As far as I’m concerned these old games are works of art and are just as fun as some of the newer machines.

Agreed. I miss that pinball has moved away from moving a ball around and keeping it in play. I do love my collection, but a good old EM is just as much pinball to me.

I'm going to give it hell, but the top layer of the plywood is delaminated and lifted in spots. I think it is probably rodent damage in a few spots that sat on the wood for awhile. I'm not one to worry about missing paint on a playfield. I'm more concerned with the uneven parts where the wood has lifted. Unfortunately a lot of it is in the arch area up top. I'm concerned the ball may catch air its that bad. The cabinet is delaminated as well, but that can probably be reglued to at least keep it from getting worse.

I'm jealous. Nice acquisition.

I view the machines as works of art. Seriously. If you enjoy working on the machine and admiring its beauty then I think you know why so many of us are fanatical about this hobby.
Quoted from EJS:[quoted image]
Very nice looking PF. Gotta do something about those two swapped inserts though . . .

Thumbs up for the kitty. What a pretty tabby!!
Quoted from SonicZone:Very nice looking PF. Gotta do something about those two swapped inserts though . . .
Already done. They fell out during transport and put them in backwards for a laugh. This title is known for inserts popping out. Could easily remove 2/3rds of them with little effort. Really happy with the backglass. The ship sails and title has cracks in the paint but no lifting. Triple Thick is drying as I type.

Me too, always have. What would you rather have in your home?

Lmao! But a very true story. Artwork is a big part.

I know.. I love these machines. I made this comment only because I posted my pics after a bunch of shiny new multi million dollar machines.. Kinda like bringing a Honda Civic to a Lambo car meet.
Quoted from Boof-Ed:Brought this one home. Not mine though. Doing a friend a solid and packing it for interstate transport. I had to get a pic of two side by side though.

Look at all those playfields!!! Were those old PFs that the owner had sappwed out, or were those spares?? I wonder how he mounted them to the wall...!

That’s my room. They are all playfields I have replaced in games I’ve restored. I find a playfield in restorable condition and restore it myself. Clear coat and mount it to the wall for 8-12 months before installing in the game. Old playfield replaced the good one and becomes art.

I still think a retheme to cartoon art would bump this game up even more.

These are considered bad art by the critics, but I personally find a lot of "good art" should be fit into that category too
MM was never a title I ever wanted because I drilled it into my head that I’d never have the opportunity (cash, availability etc) to own one.
Well a deal popped up that looked to good to be true. A scam for sure. I let it sit for a week, had a couple beer then took the bait.
Absolutely mint MMR with only 100 plays at a price that was more than reasonable.
Never say never!

I like the TV mounted in the CFTBL back box
Twofer!!!
TWD completes the trilogy of my most favorite happy place Borg/LFS games and Seawitch replaces the Beatles I sadly had to let go last year (and also nicely fills in my Classic Stern row!)
