Dr. Dude is a fun game with cool toys, especially for that era. The shot to start the amazing ray is fun to shoot. The magnet and gab shots are cool too. Funny pin, glad we had one.

@cosmokramer
Congratulations, really a great game and looks like a nice one.
If you need a couple of those stationary silhouette targets I have a couple sitting around. The one is notoriously broken on darn near every game because it takes a direct hit from gun and butts right up to the metal ball guide.
Shoot me a PM and I’ll mail you a couple if you want them.

This thing has been rotting for a while. Time to save it!
Guy has owned it for over 20 years and it never had hinge bracket bolts. No bolt to hold the backbox to the cab either, just the clip at the back. How it stayed on the cab is anyone’s guess.

Game was set to five ball

When my kids were young I set all my games to 5-ball. When we would play together, I would always drain my first two balls and only play the last three. Sort of like spotting them points... As they got older (and now have moved out), I never have changed them back to 3-ball.

No way...3 ball is where it’s at. When I bought my GB two weeks ago it was set on 5 ball. Didn’t know until I drained Ball 3, game seemed to last forever. I changed it immediately.

This guy agrees.

#19342 3 years ago
Quoted from alexanr1:

Pinball was meant to be 5 ball

Quoted from Colsond3:

No way...3 ball is where it’s at.

I have played a good bit of pinball since around 1978, and I have never played a game that was set on 5 ball, had never even heard of it.

Until just now, the only time I have even heard 5 ball being mentioned was when I invited a old timer over that fixed my mowers for cheap, and he was complaining about only 3 balls, pinball is supposed to have 5.

I thought the dude was crazy, until I was looking around in settings one time in a game, and seen it had a setting for 5 ball.

I would never turn any of my games to 5 ball, just seems weird, after always being used to 3 ball myself.

And that pitch and bat I picked up a while back is still fun for a few games a few times a week. It is not going anywhere.

#19343 3 years ago
Quoted from alexanr1:

Pinball was meant to be 5 ball

Only EMs were actually meant to be played as 5 ball games.

#19344 3 years ago

I'm good with 5-ball for home use. I'm not trying to become the #1 ranked pinball player in the US or anything like that, so this way the whole family enjoys as much of the game as possible. Also, having deeper games like LOTR and Hobbit require quite a bit of exploration.

Now, if I was hosting a tournament at home, yes, back to 3-ball on all of them.

#19345 3 years ago
Quoted from GTO:

I'm good with 5-ball for home use

I have been tempted to set to 5 ball, so I can maybe get deeper in a game, but so far I have stayed old school, and stuck with the 3 ball games.

Crap, now I regret selling some games I was tired of, had I only set them for 5 ball I may would still have some around.

Next time I am thinking about selling a game, now I will switch it to 5 ball, and have a totally new game to try.

We may need to keep this quiet, or the used game market may dry up for a while.

#19346 3 years ago
Quoted from snyper2099:

Only EMs were actually meant to be played as 5 ball games.

The only reason games were set to three ball was so operators could make more money.

5 ball is old school. A number of EM were notably 5 ball or you could never collect specials.
