I brought home a beautiful Stellar Wars and Black Knight. Both are in excellent condition.

Quoted from Morinack:

1954 United Banner shuffle alley.
More cosmetic work than operational.
BG is flaking some.
Need tear down and cleaning of all step ups.

Yup, and with 24 score reels, servicing the head will take a little bit of time,
but well worth it for a nice vintage bowler. Looks like a triple in the 10th
gives 900 points. Must be 8.5" pins, right? I'm pretty sure the 10" was first
used in 1955.
For a while now, I've used clear vinyl to seal the glass. For me it proved
to be much better than spraying..

Yes. 8.5" pins.
Pretty interested to see game play.
Most bulbs are missing too, but I am amazed at the state of the relays in this thing. Must've been kept in a dry environment.
Step ups are gummed/frozen with old grease.

Yes, it's nice when those cardboard score reels are nice and firm..
Cleaning then lubing the Step Ups and Score motor wiper boards are important.
I'm sure you already know this but "No" Steel Wool. I use scotch brite with a solvent.
The little copper ratchet type piece in the score reel units are sure to be frozen.
If the backglass is a little flaky, after carefully cleaning the score reel windows,
applying clear vinyl as a seal to me has been a huge plus. It's something like mylar,
but cheaper and I like working with it better. After it's applied, you can then touch up
the backglass, and if a mistake or mismatch of color is made, it's easy to erase with
no chance of damage..
Sorry if much of this is already common knowledge to you, but just want to let you
know from experience of very many machines..

What do you recommend for lubing the step ups?

Marlon Brando recommends Butter.

I always appreciate insight.
I have worked on EM pins since the late 90s, so I am quite familiar with many of the common challenges.
I do like your thoughts on the BG.
I dont want to tie this thread up with restore talk, but thanks.

#14710 4 years ago

On Step-ups I avoid grease.
Typically a drop of 3 in 1 is good now and then on the shafts. If the step up doesn't return, make sure the wipers dont have too much pressure. All should work with little to no lube.
Too much lube is usually a bigger issue than too little.

I owned this a while ago and just bought it back! And it looks a lot better than when it left.

Picked up a really nice Judge Dredd this weekend. I AM THE LAW!

Quoted from gliebig:

What do you recommend for lubing the step ups?

Like many, I use Super Lube. It comes in a tooth paste style tube. It's good stuff.
Doesn't gum up. Back in the 90s, I bought Ball Bowlers and some of the Score Motor's
wiper rivets were worn completely off. I replaced the rivets and still have some of those
bowlers out in different places with very little if any wear on those new rivets because of the lube.
Unlike others, I also put a thin film of Remmington Gun Oil over the lube. As the Super Lube,
Remmington Gun oil contains teflon. It likes to stick around. On tiny wiper boards as the mid 70s
bowlers score reels have, I only apply a film of Gun Oil.
I have dozens of machines set up. The more friction free they run, the better.

Quoted from Morinack:

I do like your thoughts on the BG.

Years back, I picked up a pin where the backglass had already been sealed with clear packaging
tape and after maybe 20 years stored in variable temperature changes (Upstate N.Y.), the art
work stayed in tack, so since I had backglasses made from vinyl, my Graphic Designer's an easy
source to acquire the clear from. So far, for me, way better than spraying..

Alvin G. & Co's PP is a surprisingly fun DMD pin and a nice and unique addition here. I really like the additional factory artwork on Pistol Pokers six. Too bad it'll be rarely ever seen.

A few years ago, I hung onto a Pistol Poker for a Friend until he picked it up after I had a chance to by it
(I think $250.00) All though I'm EM, I maybe should have bought it..
I see you have a Bally Ball Park. Not too many around. A nice fast responsive game.
By any chance, is that a repro backglass on the Ball Park?

It's a pretty nice original glass. Love the gameplay on Ball Park. We also have a Slugfest here, but I always gravitate to Ball Park.

Thanks Andy1! Around 15 years ago I passed on a nice Mystery Castle deal that was priced around $900 and I'm still kicking myself on not pulling the trigger on it. It always comes down to non-buyers-remorse to me.

Don't worry Steve'o it happens to all of us, it's like the fisherman talking about the big one that got away but in this hobby the next one is just around the corner.

Just picked STTNG this weekend, sitting on the end of this row for now but maybe move next to its Superpin cousin Judge Dredd ...

Engage!

Need to inspect carefully that MPU for any battery damage.

#14728 4 years ago

I forgot that my friend pulled the batteries. Everything is clean and working properly. The siren topper caught my wifes attention and she actually played 3 or 4 games. First time in over a year for sure that she's flipped a game. She really liked the supercharger and la grange playing.

Getaway was my first game, and mine had these Medel mod flashers. They activate when the siren is activated and I’m sure that your wife will love them.

Picked up a Road Kings in half decent shape last weekend and just finished shopping it out. I really appreciate how Williams use to put the rubber ring size along with a post diagram of where they install right on the playfield.

Didn't bring home today, but did finally get playable yesterday. Still some minor tweaking of switches and such, but so very happy to have this in the house.

Started with a mostly populated playfield I got from @toddtuckey right about a year ago. Got some much needed parts from @tomass, @jt-pinball, an awesome set of boards from @pascal_j, a sweet backglass from BG Resto more parts from Marco, Pinball Life and others, built a cabinet, made some stencils, touched up and cleared the playfield, then put it all together and miracle of miracles it worked.

Great fun project and great fun machine. A few in progress pics.

What's your address? I'm going to send you mine.

Well done. It looks great and is a blast to play. Make sure you add some Super Lube to that spinner and post back when you finally rip the spinner when it's lit for 50x. It has to be one of the most satisfying shots in pinball.

LOL, thanks. spinner is lubed, just need to make the shot. I've only played a couple dozen games so far, but I have had it lit for 50x but have yet to hit it. The score on the pics is my current high.

I know it was a few before the Predator movie, but the makers of Predator had to see and like this game. I see a similarity between the Predator with his mask and hair and the backglasss

Guessing it sat in someone's basement for years because of bad opto not allowing ball to eject.
