Yes the paint is original and I noticed it is different from any other I’ve seen. Here’s a picture with the serial number. I’m still in the process of troubleshooting and it looks like the MPU is toast, power supply is good and a couple displays work, testing solenoid board this weekend. Other than that the playfield is in pretty good condition and it is a fully painted playfield with the striped shooter lane.

Whether it says "S" next to the serial number or not, I'd call that a sample game with the white cabinet.
That's way cool. Takes lots of pics and send to IPDB for documentation, please. It will also be interesting to see if there are any other differences, maybe on the playfield even.

I submitted pictures and the serial number this morning to the S/N database. This machine does have the full painted play field with the painted stripe in the shooter lane and it indeed has the pressboard play field. It looks like the colors on the playfield may be a little different and I will have to confirm that later on this evening. Turns out all the displays are the originals with matching serial numbers on them as well, sadly the MPU and Solenoid driver are not original. Not a bad find for 2 1/2 Benjamins!

I have been in this hobby for 22 years now. This alternate paint scheme example only surfacing for the first time in those 22 years blows my mind.

Nice! Love to see a pic of the playfield, caught a glimpse of the shooter lane stripe in the car shot...

Wow, considering how many were produced and the regularity that I see these Count Down machines for sale thats very interesting to hear that this is the first white based color scheme that has been seen at least by those who have commented so far. The seller was an older fellow who had a small collection of marginal condition machines, he bought this about 10 years ago from somebody in the Central California Foothills and planned to get somebody to work on it but never got around to it so he decided to sell it. He told me that somebody from Reno NV (a good 2 hour trip) messaged him right after I committed to driving the 60 miles to pick it up and they were ready to head on over to pick it up and now I understand why. I think I am going to start a separate thread on this machine to see if I can get some more information about it because this may be worthy of more than just a standard quick restoration.

I'll be sure to take some pictures tonight and I'm going to look for more identifying tags, labels or stamps in the body.
I'd say serial number 01007 makes it a sample game or even an engineering sample. I had a "Gold Strike" which was number 01005.
No "S" after the number though.
The relay ID strips were handwritten. Otherwise, it was identical to the regular production models.
Quoted from 72Devilz:Having seen the SS on all the labels I’ve come across I’m guessing it signifies Solid State.
Yes indeedy. Although there technically was no EM version of "Count-Down" ("Space Walk" is the two-player EM version), all the solid state versions of games made in both forms have SS after the serial number on the green arch stamp.
Quoted from thepinballworks:Count Down was my first pin 20+ years ago. And still have it.[quoted image]
I've had and sold three of them.
Quoted from 72Devilz:Never ever pass up a good deal!
Count down is a pretty fun game. Congrats

Glad to see you have your priorities straight.
"To hell with the fridge, or the heat; gotta play me some pinball!"
Quoted from northerndude:Putting in an automatic transfer switch?
Yes, it was included. I am getting bids on installation.

Well it is whole house: heat, A/C, well pump, and the FRIDGE too... gotta keep the beverages COLD.

Always important to have cold beverages in a time of need!

Just got tired of 7000 watt generator ( gasoline) and extention cords to feed appliances.
Had to wire up plug on furnace, since I never had crossover box done.
this unit has automatic transfer switch, burns natural gas...problems solved.
in 5 weeks I bought 5 pinball machines in October and November.
So last Wednesday I ask my bride if she wanted to go on road trip to spend $$$$
She first thought I was going to buy yet another pin.

I think she has worked you out
Can you manually override if needed? Like before a vacation? That'd suck to burn a ton of fuel in the summer if not needed.
We have the gas granny, but also have a transfer box. Not automatic, but gives us heat, water, lights, etc. Not certain I'd want to run a pin off it though.
Quoted from Happy81724:spider man in!
Spider-Man is my best shooting game! Smooth as butter. Got it from @PinKitten!
Not sure of the fate of this one, no backglass, playfeild in not so good condition. But it has a Alltek MPU and it had a pinscore display in it so it had to be working at some point. It was cheap enough so in the truck it went.

This weekend was busy - picked up a nice Target Alpha, Super Mario Bros that needs a little love, Bally Atlantis for my lady friend as a surprise for the holiday (last minute pick up that happened to line up perfectly. Also, seller was amazing and patient, ty buddy I owe you some bourbon), a nice Bram Stoker's Dracula, and a Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo.
Super Mario Bros needs a lock drilled, some playfield work, probably some bondo and a new speaker grill. Everything else is pretty much good to go.
Drive time was probably 18 hours all weekend and it's all dumped in my buddy's living room. Good thing he's not hosting for the holidays!

Congrats on a super haul!
But you have some serious issues man
Quoted from Ballypin:Picked up this NIB beauty today. It is for sure mint condition. Probably cherry too

Fortunate that it fit in the truck.

You should really lay down cardboard when you’re transporting a game...especially a grail like that.
Quoted from Ballypin:Picked up this NIB beauty today.
Did you get a hand truck to go with that?

Damn ! Shooter lane is chipping already.
Quoted from wolverinetuner:Does the gumball machine have the TZ white ceramic ball?
Actually, I need to find some silvery gumballs like they do for wedding candy bars.
Quoted from RWH:Does that come with PDI glass?
I believe it is an option. I'll check with the Double Bubble people in China tomorrow.
Quoted from Colsond3:You should really lay down cardboard when you’re transporting a game...especially a grail like that.
Rest assured, it rode inside with me. I might be crazy, but I'm not stupid.

That would have helped a lot. Or even a backpack.
I know you are all anxiously awaiting some unboxing pictures. Until I get mine set up and dialed in, here is the teaser video from reveal day.
