My dads been looking for a Spider-Man for a while and found one at the charity auction at Expo in Chicago. Great job pinball company for everything.

We picked up these two barn-find beauties for The Robotics Lab kids to fix. Some of the kids on our non-profit’s robotics team has started playing pinball competitively and decided to branch off and learn a new skill.

Rotton Rubbers on both
Bally Surfers came on and played, zipper flippers closed and reopened, no key. Backglass looks pristine.

#spanish-eyes turned on and the set of switches under the playfield rolled continuously, no lights came on. Backglass has some flaking, mostly on skin.

Will unload tomorrow and start restoring.

These are our first EMs.

You've started out with two great titles, especially Surfers. Congratulations!

I’ll echo Bruce’s comment about Surfers. Congrats on the scores and it gives encouragement to all of us that there are still gems out there to be found and restored.

Thank you, our hope is to continue to gather pins for each kid to work on, and progress into more modern games too once we have a grasp on the older once. The end goal of being able to design and build their own game before they finish high school in a few years.

Big goals I know, but you never know what they can do if you don’t make big goals!

Quoted from pinmister:

So after two and a half years of searching I finally found a Stern NBA in collector quality condition within my set price range. It has been a long hunt for this one, I had three of them slip through my fingers through the years and I did not want to overpay. This by far has been my longest hunt for a pinball machine. There are very few of these machines, especially west of the Mississippi.
I was contacted by a fantastic pinsider who held the machine for me for months until he could ship it. He could have sold it for more locally but he gave me a very fair price and worked with me knowing I have been looking for this machine for some time now. He also shared some great stories about hanging out and being friends with Lebron James(I love good stories). Another huge bonus was all the extra parts he generously included that are basically unattainable which is nice to have for a rare title. I am super stoked, it is such a fun game![quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

Took me a long time to find a similar Sharkey's. Under appreciated, nice condition Sterns are highly undervalued IMHO. Getting hard to find a lot of them.

Easier than building one from scratch, that's for certain.

yeah...

this one is going to take quite a bit to get to my standard, but it is complete and in hands so that is what I needed.

TX (x x x x x x x x x x x x x)!

Nice find. Love than machine. They've had one at York the past couple years.....I probably put more games on that than anything else at the show.

#13869 4 years ago

I might get to post in this thread later tonight. Heading on a road trip with DangerSem who is nice enough to haul my ass about 90 minutes to look at a machine. If all else fails, I'll get a nice 3h ride in his minivan.

For zip flip reopen, check the mech. I believe there is a latch that has to catch. Look at it. Manually try to engage it.

What he said. Patrick strongly advised me against selling my last one, and unfortunately I didn’t heed his advice.

Definitely a game you miss when it’s gone. This is my third time buying one for a reason. This game is unmodded, so it will take some love to get it back up to par with my last one. For starters, color DMD and Creeping Death light show. Did still have the goodie bag stapled inside.

Just glad to have another one.

That's sort of a hen's tooth to find, but I read there are a few hacks you can pull to get the old one working. I think the failure is due to one of the clutch parts cracking that you can reinforce with a tie wrap.

Thanks. The guy I bought it from re-did the machine. He did a very nice job on it. I'd love to stumble onto a back glass for it, which was the only thing he didn't address.

That on-beam has such a strange backglass. Do those blank rolls of color light up?

#13893 4 years ago
Quoted from mark532011:

Yes, they have ships the progress across each strip.

Backglass light animation shows space station and space ship traveling on any of 4 Beams. Getting space ship to dock with space station on same Beam awards points and lights center target for Special. The playfield Beam-O-Meter allows player to track this progress without watching backglass.
