Today was drive-home day with my new space shuttle. First, fog (and light condensation, of course) hit and I freaked. Pulled over and put the tarp down. Proceeded to fight that stupid thing the entire drive home. Then at one point my tonneau cover snapped (POS). Then it started pouring... 15 minutes from home. Somehow it was still bone dry and started up without a hitch in my garage. Glad I'm home now.

I've been trying to avoid buying Project Pin EMs. Now that I have a business, I have been focusing on solid state pins. I even posted these on the Project Pin thread, hoping that they would be gone before I could no longer resist the siren call of two inexpensive mid-60's EMs.

Surfers is a Ted Zale designed game with three 2" flippers and some fun art. It has zipper flippers, always a fun feature. The backglass 'Balloon Bonus' and the playfield 'Ring-A-Ding' Bonus are both carried over from ball to ball. It has both a left out-lane kicker and a right out-lane gate to put the pinball back in play. If you have ever played a Bally EM from this era, you know how quickly the outlanes can suck your ball to instant death! With the zipper flipper closed and both outlanes lit, the player is allowed to play on without having the feeling of impending doom.

8 Ball has a drop-down cabinet and great art. It was one of only a few Williams EMs that kept track of each of two players pool balls earned using separate stepper units for each player. Player 1 plays balls 1-7. Player 2 plays balls 9-15. The balls have to be earned, in order, then each player shoots for the 8 ball! It's a Norm Clark Middle-Pop pin, my third!

I guess it was just meant to be that these would end up at Pecos' Palatial Pinball Parlour.

Now that I have a Beat the Clock, 8-Ball is about the last EM I would still consider buying after having had so many.

Congrats!

Just picked up my first EM! Currently at the legendary Pinball Asylum to get some love. Such a great game!

It is my birthday, so I had to buy something. It was only 5 minutes away, the closest before was 2 hours, so I had to buy it just on this basis. When I called the guy, he answered by saying, "Jeff?". He already knew me & I him. Played golf with him and his dad. Have got all my flooring from them. They're customers of mine. Never knew he was interested in pins. Funny thing, I had looked in at least a week for pins on CL and was only there looking for a cheap pellet stove to heat the new workshop, but eventually entered pinball. Did a triple take. Couldnt believe any machine was right here in town.

Looks like everyone is picking up EM's this week. Second pin in two weeks just a few minutes from home. Story goes it came out of a campground some 20 years ago and has been untouched in his basement ever since. Check out the sweet custom plastics!! Needs a fair amount of work but plays. For sale in Market now to fund my System 11 addiction

Is that a slot machine and a ball save pop up post on that pf? That thing looks cool!

Quoted from stavio:

Yes and yes. Far left and right lanes mid playfield pop up the center post and the button between the slings will drop it just when you need it most. Fun game!

Congrats!

Thank o-din! That's high praise, coming from you. Would that be because Pit Stop, one of your favorite pins, is one of the few EMs that have the same ability to track the two players playfield accomplishments separately? From IPDB:

"The carry-over feature is an example of EM playfield "memory" and is accomplished by the Player Relay alternating between two step-up units. An earlier example of this is Williams' 1966 '8 Ball'."

"Two racetracks in center playfield, one for each player, use lights to show the cars racing. The positions of the cars on the tracks carry-over from ball to ball and do not reset until a new game is started."

Quoted from AntennaMan:

Happy Bday fellas, and congrats on the pin.

My 8 Ball and Surfers purchase was influenced by my upcoming birthday. Did you know that September babies are most likely Christmas babies? Just a theory of mine...

Quoted from stavio:

Is that a slot machine...

Yes, but the reels only move one at a time and only one position at a time based on the features on the playfield that advance a single score reel, unlike a slot machine. Still, a very cool feature and wonderfully engineered to pay off properly. Note that some may have been mis-wired from the factory. From IPDB:

"Reportedly, an unknown quantity of this game left the factory with the wiring incorrect on the right playfield score reel as compared to the schematic. Two wires were crossed which caused incorrect scoring on some score reel combinations."

Quoted from fabsj82:

Yes, that is so cruel and challenging as the ball is usually headed straight down the middle! Klondike giveth and Klondike taketh, as do most EMs!

Yes sir!

Pit Stop has become not only mine, but everybody else that seems to come over's favorite EM. It never gets old. Always as fresh as the first time. Not just that, but have had several other Norm Clarks , and they are always great players and crowd pleasers too. And that's pretty much the bottom line as it has always been.

Games that get played, stay.

Congrats on the local score bud!! Pins in VT don't pop up often, let alone a stones throw away. Looks like a super fun game.

It was a Fantastic night last night..... Capt. Fantastic and The Brown Dirt Cowboy Night to be exact. Craigslist ad popped up just 40 minutes away. Called the guy and came home with an UN-Mollested Capt. Fantastic. He owned the pin for about 25 years and kept it inside. The best part is a perfect backglass. A couple minor issues like the token 2 prong plug are in order along with a few clean ups and it's good to go.

Picked up this nice Spirit of 76 at an estate sale this morning (thanks for posting it Murphdom). Making some progress, got all the GI working, and it sounds like it wants to start a game, but not quite.

You also get a nice Lake Tahoe pic, since I can't figure out how to delete it.

That’s nicer than I originally thought. The estate sale pictures made it difficult to tell. Well worth the $.

Tap on pictures to delete them from a phone. An X box should come up. If not, it may require two taps

Let me guess... Gilligans Island and Pinbot in Lafayette? $1400 for a pinbot with playfield wear and acid damage didn’t scream BUY ME. Owner seemed nice enough and they played OK. But yeah I passed as well.

The Gilligans was $1600 and actually had a nice playfield. Was tempted but also passed. Both had battery damage and wasn’t sure how extensive, but played fine. Seller was a pleasant guy and had the games in his home for 25+ years. He seemed open to offers for both but I was just passing through with a small car so didn’t want to waste his time.

LOL, I wrote to her a minute after they listed last night. She did stick to honoring my offer even after supposedly getting higher offers, so I respect that. That was some bad acid damage! I looked at the boards with a flashlight, as the room was as dark as a casino.I agree playfield was probably nice under all that dirt and the guy was super nice.
