Quoted from FatPanda:

It's definitely been sitting a long while. A lot of the plungers and coils are real sticky or seized. I've only worked on 4-player EMs so far, so hopefully this will be a bit easier.

Just finished up a 1 player Hot Line. I enjoyed it.

Quoted from FatPanda:

Brought home my first project EM yesterday. Not even sure how far I'll be able to get. Better hit up all the EM resources!
[quoted image][quoted image]

That looks in decent shape, fun AAB!!

#12703 4 years ago
Quoted from Colsond3:

Like eventually now? Come on Chris, you don’t need two of them.

It was a lot of stressful and risky work to get it over here (made much quicker and less risky with @rvdv's awesome connections). That said, lemme have a little fun first!

I haven't even been able to plug it in yet because the step down converter doesn't support the Italian 3 prong plug on the game.

A local buddy of mine has a Shop Ahoy as well; in extremely good shape. It's a fun game and I'm much more into the late 80's early 90's SS games. That said, I just cut my teeth on an EM myself over the past few months. King of Diamonds. Bought it from a friend and it needed a lot of refreshing. I had a time getting the rotatory unit in the middle to spin nice and work right, but now it's perfect. Definitely good advice on cleaning out all the stepper units. I did that on most of mine; I think I left one alone that was working fine already. It plays great now; definitely work all the effort to clean it up, polish the playfield, re-rubber and LED. Oh and the hotter A-5141 coils were just the right amount of extra umph for the flippers; not too much. I think my friend has those on his Ship Ahoy too. Good luck with your game!

Quoted from FatPanda:

I've got a Grand Prix that needs attention. I'll have to work on that before I get to this! This one just sort of fell into my lap!

Hey Panda, I have a Grand Prix playfield and score board that has been picked at a little but if you need some specific parts let me know and I will look to see if I have it. I think most of the plastics are good on the PF.

#12706 4 years ago

I started a little over a year ago with a Smart Set EM machine that needed a lot of TLC. I cleaned all the steppers and score reels and did some general maintenance and it works great now. The cabinet is in sad shape but the pin plays good. Got an Aztec also that needed some help but it is now up and playing great. Love the mechanical aspect of the EM pins. Would like to find a 1990 or newer pin but they are not cheap.

Up at 4 AM. On the road before 5 AM. More than two hours in the car to hit a garage sale on Craigslist with no contact information and one picture of a pinball machine added the night before. No price listed. Talked myself into going last night and I'm glad I did.

So give it the tlc it deserves after 12 yrs, play it and on to the next

2.5 hours is a trek this weekend it's pretty darn hot, comes with the territory of summer I guess. But the humidity is just ridiculous where I live. Safe travels to anyone picking up games.

You can wear the air here in Cincy and it's not going to change anytime soon.

So my day was interesting. I would have to say this probably qualifies as a barn find although it was in an outdoor covered area which wasn't technically a barn. Checking out the machine included roosters, rat poop and a horse so it was about as close to a barn as you get. In the end I came away with an F-14 Tomcat which boots and plays but is pretty dirty and needs sanitization from the rat turds. Luckily they seem to have left the wiring completely alone. The playfield is ok, decent amount of mylar bubbling but it's all there, plastics aren't broken and all the switches and coils seem to work. Boards are in decent shape despite having 5 year old Duracells in the battery holder which I immediately removed. The prior owner was in awe of my pinball ninja skills as I showed him such feats as opening the backbox, removing the lockbar and glass, raising the playfield and going into diagnostic mode to check switches and such.

In the end I came away with the poor F-14 and an old Kangaroo stand up arcade with original monitor that is a working 48 in 1 multicade for a very good price. A couple more projects for the garage!

Do you know if the Kangaroo cabinet has the original art underneath all that black paint?
I love the artwork on Atari Kangaroo, maybe you can bring it back with citristrip.

The art is under the paint however it is pretty trashed. Not sure if someone took a sander to it? The cab will be stripped to bare wood and repaired and painted. I'm trying to decide if I try to make it a Kangaroo again, Dig Dug or a generic Multicade.
