Heading back from CT. Dropped off T2, picked this up. Additional pic taken of game in seller’s house before I left per the new thread requirements.

Nice get. I have fond memories of playing The Amazing Spider-Man back in the day. Love the 67 cartoon style artwork on it.

Definitely. I think this is my fifth or sixth one. Every time I sell the game I regret it, so this one will hopefully stay for a while, if not permanently.

The artwork alone on this pin is awesome, the original Marvel art. Blows the bobble head Spidey VE artwork out of the water.

I've never been a Star Wars (movie) fan, but this pin seems well put together.

Quick Pinball Quiz: What was the first pinball to use 3" flippers?

From IPDB: "'Hayburners II' is credited with introducing 3-inch flippers to the game of pinball in place of 2-inch flippers that were used since their introduction in 1947. However, Sample games may exist of Gottlieb's 1951 'Happy-Go-Lucky' as shown in its flyer, where the flippers appear to be 3 inches in length or longer."

There are so many firsts for me that I don't know where to start.

  • My first horse racing themed game
  • My first oscillating center ball-shooter
  • My first zipper flipper pin
  • My first rotating target game
  • My first four flipper Williams pin

day_1_3 machines (resized).jpg

DSCF3753 (resized).JPG

Hay Burners II, Williams October 1968: The FIRST pinball machine to have 3" flippers. It is only one of four Williams pinball machines to have zipper flippers. They don't close completely. They open when shooting the ball from the oscillating ball shooter between and below the flippers, then close part way.

DSCF3752 (resized).JPG

hayburners_ii_day_1_playfield_full (resized).jpg

Derby Day, Williams October 1967: It is the ONLY Williams pinball machines with rotating targets I could find on IPDB. There are two of them and after being hit, they rotate 90º to reveal the next horse number. It, too, has an oscillating ball shooter. Unlike a Gottlieb Roto-Target, these rotate horizontally!

I love the Christian Marche artwork of the galloping horse smack dab in the middle of the playfield racing toward you, the player.

Both games have a really cool mechanical backbox with 6 horses that race to the finish line. When two people play, the first player gets horses 1, 3 and 5 and the second player gets horses 2, 4 and 6. Two player games are definitely the most fun. It's more fun to compete! In this case, that slogan really is true.

I would like to get one of these out on route to see how it does. I think it will do well so I am moving up in the restoration queue. I use more of a LIFO rather than FIFO method of accounting for restorations here at Pecos Pinball!

I can only pick up two pins in my Chevy S10 so I will be going back later to pick up the third. I got these from a great Pinsider and seller in Scottsdale. Thanks DD!

No idea what "sexy time" might entail with TWD, but good for you to be lining it up!

And I like your clever use of old pool cue handles as rollers in the back of your minivan!

Good job!

She’s nice looking!

Yeah, once upon a time many years ago, I pulled a WCS94 out of a Tahoe and it ripped apart the front of the cabinet getting snagged. That kind of sucked.
Once you use a pool cue, there’s no going back!
And it’s a Yukon XL, it’s been raining like crazy here for several days, ugh.

Started hunting this title about 2 weeks ago after deciding I didn't have room for a full size or puck bowler.

My wife loves to bowl, but we never seem to find the time. She's also not the best Pinball player and gets frustrated pretty quickly with regular PB games so ...
I thought I'd try to find a Gottlieb Strikes 'N Spares to see what she how she liked it ...

She loves it! Really, really enjoyed it
We played against each other this evening for a few quick games after setting it up and really had fun
Cool game and a sure winner in a larger collection - Adds nice variety

Paid up for the title for a few reasons :
- It was only 90 minutes away
- I was able to inspect and play before pay
- This example looks almost new
- Came with 14 extra, new balls
- Owners manual, spare price cards

Great game, especially for 2 or more players! Congratulations. Make sure you have mylar on the playfield from the ball eject area to the flippers, very common wear spot on this game.

Yea. Thx for the heads up. Saw quite a few with wear there. I'll cut a paper template then transfer to piece of mylar and custom cut a piece.

Re Gottlieb Spider-Man: I've owned this game for about 20 years and have one that must have been a HUO, and it remains one of my favorite games. Between the awesome art work (which Gordon Morison said he traced from original Romita art - yeah, I'm a geek) and the simple, but fun play, this remains a keeper for me. I was even lucky enough to have Stan Lee sign it! - yeah, Super Geek. Congrats on the purchase - sixth or otherwise.

I drove 2 hours from my home to pick these up from a recycler that opened at 8am. A Marilyn Taxi and El Dorado City of Gold. Both missing back glass but both are complete. The Taxi actually works and doesn't appear to have any board damage. Both will clean up really nice and are extremely dirty. But what makes this so sweet is that I paid the asking price of $50 for both games. Can't wait to start on these projects.

I’m out on my own adventure today. Nearly 3000 miles RT to pick up a grail pin.

Added 16 months ago:

I got the pin and am headed home. 1200 miles to go!
Picking up this pin is somewhat bittersweet. I’m very lucky to have it. Anyone following the TBL saga knows how rare these are. Unfortunately a lot of people have money on the table for one and nothing to show for it.
