Finally brought home my grail last night. It's dirty and in need of some serious love, but it'll shine when it's clean!

Congrats Flake! Everyone should get their grail pin at least once!

#553 4 years ago

It's not the nicest pin we own, but it sure is nice to finally have one of my very own. After telling myself I didn't *really* need one for several years.

Brought home WCS 94 today. It's in player's condition but plays perfectly. Excited to have a JPop machine in the house and have been having a blast getting to know her.

Picked up an absolutely gorgeous Bad Cats from a fellow pinsider. It has a recent CPR Gold playfield swap, new CPR plastics and new cabinet decals. Everything was tumbled and it looks phenomenal. I'll try and get some more pictures later.

I'm moving in 2 weeks, so I didn't bother lugging it into the basement. It's actually sitting in my dining room right now.

Getting ready to pull the backbox (it needs to be removed to get up his steps):

I've got to say. Enjoying the thrill of bringing a machine home, and seeing others do it. This is my favorite "favorite" thread!

#564 4 years ago

I also love this thread. However it makes me want to bring home more machines. Lol. I'm sure my wife loves it a lot less than I do

#565 4 years ago

My new project! Let's see who can identify it just by that distinctive color.

Correct! Of course, an EM pro should have no problem.
This is one of my Grail pins and I'm excited to get started with the restoration!

Original playfield? Looks to be in really nice shape.

Nice cab, little wear at shooter, clean boards, needs new rubber, but 100% working.

Fireball II in the house!

Yep. Looks to be factory Mylar. Has bubbles in it over some inserts but doesn't bother me or affect gameplay. Only wear is around the ladder ramp hole and the adv x inserts at the top horseshoe lane.

Plastics are cracked in various spots around the buildings, but I am sure that is very common on this game.

Man, I need to get me some more pins

Just picked up a Middle Earth. It seems like there have been a bunch of Atari games popping up lately. This game plays about 80%. Displays are out, a few switches, bulbs, and one solenoid are out. Backglass isn't great--it was stored in an uninsulated garage for who knows how long.

But with what looks like a working MPU and a decent looking playfield, a restoration probably won't take too long.

I took a couple of quick photos as I was disassembling and packing it up.

Middle Earth ended up having two counters installed for some reason. One on the coin door, and one inside the cabinet.

Actually....I haven't touched it yet--I merely took the glass off. The glass was filthy.

The owner had no idea that the glass could come off. It also took a bit of effort to get the lockbar loose since it basically hadn't been removed in ages.

Also, the fuse(s) for the displays blow instantly on power up. Looks like the credit display board needs some attention.

This madness all began with Pinbot. He finally has his bride. A little dirty, a little faded, and a little worn but she is fully working. This was the first game I added to my wish list and it feels good to mark it off

Just bought my first table, Jackbot which is one of my personal favorites. Have room for five total so on the hunt for my next four machines.

Never seen an Af-tor. How does it play?

#588 4 years ago
Quoted from dmbjunky:

Never seen an Af-tor. How does it play?

The flippers and pops are very similar to the classic Stern design. The slings are made of plastic and no other manufacturer made anything like them, but they are surprisingly responsive and with their near vertical angles there's a lot of back and forth play between them. The game plays very snappy and I haven't even rebuilt any of the mechs yet.

Even though it's a widebody the shots are tight, especially the ball lock on the left and release on the right. Even the spinner lanes are narrow. And I'm never prepared when the gates up top are open and the ball makes a complete loop, as you can see in the video. The ball release up top between the pops is a sucker shot, often returning SDTM. While the outlanes don't look hungry, the ball likes to walk over and drain so it's good to get those drop targets up, and the flipper gap is not large, but the ball sure seems to find it with ease. The background sound increases in tempo so that's satisfying to hear if you can actually keep a ball in play long enough.

There are lots of strategies: Shoot the ball up top and go for bonus multiplier and loads of pop bumper points, shoot the center banks of drop targets to keep the outlanes protected, shoot the stand ups twice or three times (dip selectable) to light extra ball, or go for multiball and get 2x playfield scoring.

All in all I have to say I'm quite impressed with it. It's fast and challenging and hard to rack up high scores on.

Living in on the coast in Marblehead MA and growing up building wooden boats, this thread (one I always come back to) always reminds me of launching boats that have been built from the keel up by their owners or completely restored. Wooden Boat magazine has a section in the back of each magazine entitled "Lauchings"
Instead of boats & trailers, it's SUV's and the pin 'o the day!

Love that dragon art.

#595 4 years ago

Rescued these three yesterday. Aladdin's Castle, Gorgar and Xenon.
Of course they were in a hot Texas garage and the Xenon leg was in the giant ant bed shown in the last photo.
I think we lost a combined 50 Lbs moving them.

Picked up a Flash Gordon for cheap today!

It is, dirty, very faded cabinet, backglass has issues, I cannot get into the backbox yet, and doesn't boot yet

...but it lights up, looks really clean on the underside, the plastics look good, and the playfield is pretty nice except for 1 wear spot. It is going to be a lot of work getting this clean and working but I'm looking forward to the challenge.
