This may have been done in the past (I was wondering the other day after playing 10+ different games at a pinball party) has anyone ever made a list of the favorite mechs in games? I think it would be interesting to create the top 25 mechs with the games they go to.

So, everyone pick their two favorite mechs of all time and post them and the game they go to and let's see what comes up!

I'll start:
Anything that picks-up or steals the ball: Apollo 13 Moon, JP Dino, TAF Thing, either pick it up or drop it through the PF, etc.
Doctor Who Time Expander that has 3 different levels of shots.

MM castle and AFM ship are always big winners when friends come to play some pins.

The cannons on big guns are pretty cool and FAST!

#3 10 years ago

Two favorites are:
JM - data glove & matrix
JD - dead world suspended ball lock and crane

Others:
MM - castle
TOTAN - genie magnet ball disappearing lock
RS - red & ted talking heads

#4 10 years ago

- Judge Dredd with Deadworld (When you have the mod in place). Very original.
- BSD with Mist multiball - Not quite stealing the ball...

Tom was what suckered me in to the hobby back when I was in college. Seeing that trunk pick up the ball was super cool back in the day.

#6 10 years ago

-The wand on Pinball Magic.
- the castle from MM

#7 10 years ago

I've about had them all, but the best one for me is one of the simplest, the jump rope on champion pub. I just wish you could go over 30 jumps.

The POTC ship sinking and MET Sparky electrocution are always crowd-pleasers to non-pinheads. Magnet usage of any kind always seems to do the trick too.

As for me, my favorite is probably a bit unorthadox...I love the CFTBL Whirlpool Ramp. It's just a satisfying shot to hit and nudging to get an extra spin or two just makes it that much more enjoyable. That said, the Warp Ramp in STLE is climbing up my list (I know those are less toy/gimmicky and more favorite shot types, but they somewhat fit the bill).

I love Thing on TAF.....the first time I saw it, it was awesome (a hand that grabs a ball and takes it under). Big deal for 1991 and that game got be back into pinball.

Powerfield!

#12 10 years ago

Also the dragons on Dragon!

#13 10 years ago

The steal cage traps on TOTAN
The trap door on TOM.
CV head magnet trap on top and the head.

#14 10 years ago

Frankenstein on MB is #1 for me.
Castle on MM is also great.

#15 10 years ago

Sinking ship and Krakken on POTC. Dancing ghost ball on BSD. terrorist house in 24.

#16 10 years ago

Magnet spinner on Twister is pretty darn cool.

#17 10 years ago
Quoted from sk8ball:

Also the dragons on Dragon!

BAO!

#18 10 years ago

"The Power" on TAF got me from the first time I experienced it.

A13 moon grab
TOTAN disappearing ball
The wand on Pinball Magic

#19 10 years ago

Red & Ted are pretty cool.

One of my favorite gimicks is a subway or staged ball which makes a ball 'travel' across the pf quicker than possible.
Who dunnit had a great staged ball and really helped speed up gameplay.

In a similar way Spetrum is pretty cool.

#20 10 years ago

Jump rope in CP
Wand in Pinball Magic

#21 10 years ago

Mist Multibal on BSD. I think it is so cool to see the ball floating across the playfield and having to knock it off the path to start multiball.

The ball lock in shadow where it tosses the ball into the lock.

The powerfield in TZ

The castle in MM.

#23 10 years ago

Gumball machine from TZ
Magnet Disappearing ball trick from TOTAN
Ship from POTC
Rotating face from BOP

#24 10 years ago

1986: Variable Magna Save - Grand Lizard

1989: 3 Rotating Discs - Whirlwind

-mof

#25 10 years ago

also T-2 gun and beating heart in POTC. Also love when magneto captures ball and tosses it back with a little mustard on it.

#26 10 years ago

Last Action Hero crane..Metallica Sparky is pretty cool too..

#27 10 years ago

Bigfoot diverting your ball on Wh20
Mist on BSD
Gunfight drop targets on CC

#28 10 years ago

Crane on BDK

Drawbridge/gate mech on MM

#29 10 years ago

All of the above and you can add the supercharger track on the Getaway and the magnetic ball capture and then toss at the Sanctum entrance of the Shadow.

#30 10 years ago

+1 pinball magic wand
+1 supercharger
+1 POTC ship

So many great toys . My favorites are truly interactive with the ball

#31 10 years ago

JP and the ball eating T-Rex

The Getaway supercharger

Awesome!

#32 10 years ago

Easy for me Sparky on Metallica is simply awesome! Cage save on TOTAN is pretty darn cool as well.

#33 10 years ago

It has to be the ringmaster on Circus Voltaire for me
I also like the castle on MM and the gunfighter sequence on CC

#34 10 years ago

Surprised no one has mentioned Rudy from Funhouse. One of my favorites.

#35 10 years ago

JP T-Rex is cool

#36 10 years ago

Scared stiff crate is hysterical!

#37 10 years ago
Quoted from Jvspin:

Agreed! Cannot believe it took so long for someone to mention him

#38 10 years ago

I had nightmares as a kid about that talking head...lol

#39 10 years ago

I've always liked the Genie dropping the ball beneath the playfield on TOTAN.

#40 10 years ago

Any game that physically locks balls in a cool, unique way that ties to the theme.

- LOTR sword
- TSPP couch
- TOM trunk
- AF thing
- FT reel
- FH rudy (not a lock, but a super cool hold and release)

#41 10 years ago

I like the flipper handles and the cryo claw on DM. The ball racing around the perimeter of the playfield on NASCAR is pretty unique. There's so many of fun and clever gadgets that it's hard to single out a few.

#42 10 years ago

Folks there is no debate here. It's Rudy all the way. The guy loves (pin)balls in his mouth.

#43 10 years ago
Quoted from dantebean:

Jump rope in CP
Wand in Pinball Magic

these i think are the best.

CP is an extremely creative game.

WOZ's flipper modes are very innovative as well

#44 10 years ago

Goldeneye also has a neat ball save when a ball goes SDTM, a magnet unexpected whips it back up into play.

#45 10 years ago

Inline drop targets

#46 10 years ago

TRS Mick on a stick

Oh...wait....

.....what was the question?!?

#47 10 years ago

met and lah toys are fun

#48 10 years ago

My favorites are the spikes on Arabian Nights and the cryo claw in Demolition Man.

#49 10 years ago

Levitating ball on pinball magic....made the family squeal in awe

#50 10 years ago

Mist ball BSD, "T-Rex" JP
