Quoted from mbaumle:Having played the majority of the System 80B games, my favorite is Robo-War. It has some of the best risk/reward strategy out there with multiple ways to approach the game. TX is fantastic, but there's a lot of stop and go, and I've always felt it's party trick was really just the cool teleport feature.
In Robo-War, you can shoot for the roving bonus advance, advance letters in "ROBOWAR" (which carry over ball to ball), or go for the super risky ramp shot for multiball. Alpha III, II, and I targets must be made sequentially (each completion of all three adding another rollover for extra ball), so it's really a fantastic shooters game. There's very little dead space on the deck. While in multiball, every drop target (times the current multiplier) adds points to the multi-bonus which is tallied at the end of the game, and scored as your jackpot during multiball IF you can make that ramp shot again. You're your own best jackpot--and I think that's super cool. Spinner rips along with a sweepable drop target bank really seal the deal for me. Oh, and the music cranks. It's based on a classical musical score.
Gonna have to agree with Max, here. Robo-War is awesome. One of my favorite pins. Diamond Lady, Genesis, Bad Girs, Excalibur, and Hot Shots are also a hell of a lot of fun. I used to be on the TX train but kind of got bored of the game. Very fun to play competitively, though. All in all, don’t listen to the naysayers. Gottlieb did some questionable things but they still made a ton of solid games in this era.
