It's not one of the big A-list titles, but Victory is my favorite 80's pin.

If you're looking for a concensus from Pinside about the best 80's game, there's an easy way to find it.
1. Click the "Top 100" tab
2. Select "Other"
3. In the search fields, enter the dates 1980 and 1989
4. Click "Create custom search"
It will rank games based on average Pinside reviews. The top 5 of the 80's are:
1. Elvira and the Party Monsters
2. Fathom
3. Eight Ball Deluxe
4. Centaur
5. Taxi
Quoted from RWH:Top 100 isn't a guide I would go by, to many crappy pins included due to people spending large sums on and reluctant to say money wasted by not having it show up on most popular. I know don't believe me....well just look at how many new games are in the top ten....can't all be great and if you really research most have been number one at some point.
I get that early adopters want to inflate a new game's rating, but would that apply to older games? They're often (but not always) less expensive, the code is set, gameplay videos are easy to find and generations of pinheads formed their opinions long before Pinside existed.
As a contrast, the IPDB keeps its own ratings list. Here's their top 5 of the 80's:
1. Taxi
2. Flash Gordon
3. Centaur
4. Swords of Fury
5. High Speed
Both lists fluctuate, of course - that's natural. For example, when I first got into pinball TX Sector was seen as a dog and people couldn't dump them fast enough. Now it's a crazy popular must-have for a lot of collectors.
Quoted from tamoore:Elvira and the Party Monsters isn't a great game. It's not even that good.
Totally agree. The only thing EatPM has going for it is the theme. And it was done slightly better a few years later.
