Out of that list HS for sure

but Whirlwind is my pick (Jan 1990 close enough )

#4 5 years ago

Taxi, voted. Change your thread title to say 80s, not 90s?

#5 5 years ago

Whoops ok

#6 5 years ago

EBD not on the list? WTF

#7 5 years ago

Earthshaker (1989) in before the lock and F-14.

#13 5 years ago

I love pinball

#15 5 years ago

Earthshaker for me!

Would love to have one!

Maybe a new year resolution!

#16 5 years ago

Where’s Raven?

So many good titles though. Picked up a flight 2000 this month, enjoying it greatly.

#17 5 years ago

It's not one of the big A-list titles, but Victory is my favorite 80's pin.

#18 5 years ago

Eight Ball Deluxe

Surprised that its not included in the poll.

#19 5 years ago

BK2K hands down.

#20 5 years ago

Centaur gets my vote.

#21 5 years ago

From the list it's HS but I would also vote for EBD from all the 80's pins.

#22 5 years ago

Whirlwind was one of my all time favorites!!!!

#24 5 years ago

Black Hole was the greatest for me.

#25 5 years ago

Eight ball deluxe would be my choice.

#28 5 years ago

Fathom

What he said

#30 5 years ago

Space Shuttle for the 80's. Whirlwind for 89+1 month.

#31 5 years ago

Haunted House

#32 5 years ago

Mousin Around

#33 5 years ago

MOst games from Zaccaria in the 80s trumped anything made in the USA. Brillant artwork, fun rules and lots of drops and interesting features.

#34 5 years ago

Data East time machine

#35 5 years ago

Robocop

#36 5 years ago

My favorite one that I actually played in the 80's was High Speed. Currently, my favorite one from the 80's is Torpedo Alley.

#37 5 years ago

Earthshaker or Mousin Around

#38 5 years ago

EATPM - Centaur - HS- Earthshaker-Pin bot ..... one of these??

#39 5 years ago

Ah the 80's I love the 80's. I think Gorgar was 1979 but I sure remember playing it in the early 80's and Black Night. Two of my favorites from the early 80's

If you're looking for a concensus from Pinside about the best 80's game, there's an easy way to find it.

1. Click the "Top 100" tab
2. Select "Other"
3. In the search fields, enter the dates 1980 and 1989
4. Click "Create custom search"

It will rank games based on average Pinside reviews. The top 5 of the 80's are:

1. Elvira and the Party Monsters
2. Fathom
3. Eight Ball Deluxe
4. Centaur
5. Taxi

Top 100 isn't a guide I would go by, to many crappy pins included due to people spending large sums on and reluctant to say money wasted by not having it show up on most popular. I know don't believe me....well just look at how many new games are in the top ten....can't all be great and if you really research most have been number one at some point.

Elvira and the Party Monsters isn't a great game. It's not even that good.

I get that early adopters want to inflate a new game's rating, but would that apply to older games? They're often (but not always) less expensive, the code is set, gameplay videos are easy to find and generations of pinheads formed their opinions long before Pinside existed.

As a contrast, the IPDB keeps its own ratings list. Here's their top 5 of the 80's:

1. Taxi
2. Flash Gordon
3. Centaur
4. Swords of Fury
5. High Speed

Both lists fluctuate, of course - that's natural. For example, when I first got into pinball TX Sector was seen as a dog and people couldn't dump them fast enough. Now it's a crazy popular must-have for a lot of collectors.

Totally agree. The only thing EatPM has going for it is the theme. And it was done slightly better a few years later.

Pinbot controls the universe but for one of the most "80s" looking pins Dr Dude nails it.

#46 5 years ago

Voted for High Speed, but I enjoy all the tables up there.

The mid-80s were a down cycle for pinball and arcades, but tables like HS were among my first pin experiences.

#47 5 years ago

When I think 80s games, I think Bally. With those fat flippers and bonus meltdowns, rolling the scores, etc
All the pointy flipper choices seem like 90s to me.
Voted none of the above.

#48 5 years ago

None of the above (not even close IMO).

Centaur, Fathom, Medusa, 8BD, Flash Gordon... you name it.

#49 5 years ago

None of the above but definitely between one of these 3
Fathom
Frontier
EBD
