So this is your second Safari? Cool. I'm not that knowledgeable about Ballys but if it's like a Williams game an operator could order with different door configurations. This one was set up to take nickels, dimes and quarters. The alternator unit is likely related. It probably has to do with the nickel mech as you'd drop two coins for a credit. It would help keep track of that.
