    Hi all,

I got two of these plastic washers in a Bally 1980-88 flipper rebuild kit. I didn't have anything like them on my flipper assemblies before the rebuild, where do they go?

Did you get the kit from Pinball Life? I just bought a classic Stern flipper rebuild kit that also included a pair of those little plastic washers. The only thing they fit (that i could tell) is the shafts of the flipper bats. Maybe to raise the height of the flippers for certain games? I'm not sure what they're for, i should probably just email Pinball Life and get the answer straight from the source

I’ve removed them from some of my Bally flipper shafts when I did rebuilds. Curious to hear if they have a function.

They are to raise the flipper bat above the play field to prevent flipper drag.

I have a stash of brass washers from the local hardware store for purpose of lifting the flippers.

I bought a small package of those rings from PL and then proceeded to lose them somewhere in my growing mountain of parts.

At PL site they are called “nylon flipper shaft spacer”. 25 cents each.

Do these go on the top side of the pf or below where the linkage is?

Topside to keep your flippers from dragging across your play field.

Ok, I have a maybe similar issue on a gottlieb sys1 where a washer may help my cause. I’ll look into doing some sort of spacer. And then I’ll check the galaxy as there was some flipper wear on the pf

Usually flipper drag happens when the flipper bushing gets cracked and cants to one side, or when it's really worn down. The washer helps to prevent wear on the bushing, it's not strictly 100% necessary, depending on the condition of your bushing.

Here is a good place for this question.

How is it that the flipper axis is not perpendicular to the play field. Is the flipper bracket somehow someway tweaked “out of square”?

Probably due to some inherent bending that occurs when the flipper flips? Or maybe when the rod is embedded into the bat, it's not PERFECTLY square? I guess there could be some twisting in the whole mechanism. I never really thought about it past games where the flipper droops slightly have always had worn or broken bushings.

Anyone ever see flipper drag on the double bushing Gottlieb games? they seem to be the most solid, not only in terms of having the dual bushings, but also having the thickest shaft.

Ok, thanks everyone. Never used these before, guess I'll see how it goes.
