Hi, I've got a Scared Stiff, and one of the DB3 switches has gone dead, it appears. I found the switches, but my machine has what looks like a black resistor - 004 - soldered to the top of each one. I suppose I could solder the old one on, but what are these? Why are they used? Thanks!

I'm attaching a picture. Guess I better learn how to solder

It's a diode- very important. Allows electricity to flow one way but not another. Be sure to replace it on the new switch in the exact same orientatiOn or you will have switch errors.

This video explains more in depth why they are so important.

The diode is an 1N4004. The diode can be bad making it seem like the switch is bad. Also the pink connector may be bad causing your problem. I normally cut off the pink connector and solder the wire directly to the switch.

It's a 1N4004 diode. It's used for zero crossing (prevents multiple switches in a row from closing when one switch is closed).

Go to section K and there is an explanation on how this works.
