Quoted from TreyBo69:

Hurricane. Abysmal game. Bought it in the initial collector fever of going from 0-5 games within two months.
Awful awful game. Shots that aren't satisfying, everything about the game is slow from the long ramps, to the Farris wheel, to the juggler mech, to spinning a pointless wheel during mystery awards. The rules are hot trash. Start a multiball then get a random playfield X based on how long your multiball was (so immediately trap up in MB to extend your playfield X). It's like the game knows it's bad and is giving you reasons to not do anything while playing it.
The callouts are hot garbage, the music is grating, and it being an early DMD showed with poor animations (with the exception of the Absolutely Nothing award)
They were too cheap to even put lights in the pop bumpers
Hurricane is easily the worst WPC game

In Hurricane's defense... That multiplier timer stops when a flipper is activated. The rules are what is garbage imo on that game. Clown Mode is pretty worthless compared to just a multiball.

HOBBIT. I spent more time moving it into my basement than playing it. Was bored after one long game. A close second was GNR. A beautiful game, but multi ball after multi ball after mutliball . . . . boring and such a waste of great assets.

Man I love Hobbit.

Should have played it some more and dove into the rules. You missed out.

Checkpoint. Repetitive center ramp that’s too close and too easy to make. Lousy sounds and callouts.

If only you'd taken the time to go into settings and increase difficulty in qualifying the multiballs... There's a few other settings to balance the game to appeal to these types of preferences, but it doesn't matter now.
Deaf ears, I know, why did I even post. Lol.

No. No no no. This excuse has gotten stale as hell. I've done that. It is still bad. The programming is garbage. Go into the settings and make the mini wizards worth while. You can't. Go in there and make slash solo worthwhile. You can't. The programming needs an overhaul, plain and simple. What planet does "hitting this target so many times equals multiball" sound like a good idea? It's not.

Fair on the wizard modes and slash solo. I skip or time out usually. But the rest is just different strokes and the settings tweaks are super nice to change the feel.

Mine would be off the top of my head :
Nightmare on Elm Street
High roller casino

Maybe if they used sterns flipper system, and Elwin designed the ruleset, but that’s not happening.

Mine would be TS4. Only machine I have sold and not soon enough. It's a pretty turd

Tri-Zone, hands down. On the upside, I needed a cabinet to transplant a Cosmic Gunfight playfield into. The Tri-Zone cabinet art is better than the original Cosmic Gunfight art at least.

Dolphin by Chicago Coin is top tier trash.

Wow, I helped a friend restore a Tri Zone. Still play it every time I'm at his house. Good flow and a decent ruleset for a '79. Adding Sys-7 flipper mechs during the restoration made a big difference.

Funny you mentioned transplanting a Cosmic Gunfight into a Tri Zone cabinet. I'm doing exactly the same thing. Same friend has 3 or 4 Tri Zones (including the prototype) and gave me one for my CG. I like the cabinet art better too.

Having owned 1000's of pins (I used to buy containers BITD) I can without a doubt say the worst pin of all time is Popeye. These were dogs right out of the box. Wonderful theme, terrible execution. They chose the absolute WORST incarnation of that theme that they possible could. Bally REALLY screwed up on this one. These were literally 400.00 machines back then and that was working! They were truly worth more in parts and I hate doing that to a working pin.
Python was a good artist, but a terrible designer. I had met him back in the 80's-90's at the Chicago shows and he was quite the character....eccentric as all hell, but I found that refreshing about him. The issue is that he brought out all of his fever-dreams into his pinball design and a lot of times that didn't work out so well.
2nd worst of all: BBBB. what an abomination.

Dude, that is so random but awesome! It required some wiring. Modifying the system 6 insert panel and setting up the system 7 displays on it was probably the hardest part. I got a foil decal from Coos and ordered a piece of glass to make a backglass.

#272 11 months ago

F14 Tomcat was one I never got into. It was a players condition game that I planned on cleaning up but actually sold beforehand because I didn't like the game much.

Gorgar was probably my fastest mover. Bought in a package deal and it was just straight up boring. The sounds and voice were cool at least.

Led Zeppelin’s premium, I sold it after 2 faulty node boards. Next owner replaced 2 more and it went to the pinball dudes as a trade in and they are currently replacing the node board yet again, !!! Nodes are great yes stern lovers ,aye!!!!!!

Yeah touchy subject when you talk about how cheap spike system is and should have only stayed in the homepin model only . Not pro or other as pro should be commercial grade equipment not fisher price speak and spell tech .

Zepplin is such a turd. It's like SR new it was his last game and just phoned it in to spite stern

Quoted from play_pinball:

I hate I hate I hate Hook
But I also couldn’t wait to see my Data East TMNT go 20 years ago. The new Stern premium was out the door even faster. Bummer on both.

Data East TMNT was my first pin and fastest sold pin. Love the look of the game but not much else.

...or Stern took out the main feature he wanted in the game. I still think it's a great game, even after 2+ years.

This is why opinions are so much fun. My least favorite part of Popeye, which I've owned for several years now, is the playfield art. I would always look at my Grand Lizard and wished they never let Python get involved. Police Force stayed for a very short amount of time as well.

That said, the worst game I've ever owned just followed me home yesterday. I picked up an Alive by Brunswick.

Going with Twister.

#283 11 months ago

It's only money.

My parents have a small collection of machines in their basement and my dad is a big Elvis collector. Figured, why not?

Regardless how why it ended up being the way it is, it is still a turd of a game.

#285 11 months ago

Last Action Hero. Not exactly a "terrible" game but the artwork itself terrible and more importantly that is a mechanical freaking nightmare. The crane adjustment sucks, and the magnets keep blowing fuses until you bullet proof the magnet mech.
The code also feels so incomplete. Especially multi balls and the crane.
Again not a "terrible" game but I have zero desire to own it again.

You lose your main feature as a designer means you aren't doing it right. He was already in retirement mode. JJP is probably realizing that now as well.

I never owned it or a lot of other pins, but that might be the worst I have played. Never played Thunderbirds, Vacation America though, or Raven.

Bally On-Beam.. The game itself was fun to play and a joy to look at. But trying to fix the machine personally was a really big hassle because of that long CAM unit. I couldn't figure it out. And another Technician couldn't figure it out. I really loved the way it looked but i couldn't fix it which depressed me and i sold it as a project..

#291 10 months ago

Data East’s Secret Service. What an awful waste of space. The only redeeming feature was the music. However the layout was so bad and the right out lane was a ball sucking black hole. I bought it because I like James Bond. Couldn’t sell that thing fast enough. Some local guy low balled me and wanted me to deliver it personally into his basement which I seriously thought about because I wanted that thing gone so bad.

Quoted from beelzeboob:

Heard he turned in a playfield layout with a big circle that just said "action feature" which was the placement for that electric magic thing. Don't think he actually came up with the mech.

This is all hearsay but it's very believable.

I've been lucky and not owned any boring machines or machines that constantly broke. I'm also on the cheap side and buy most of my machines broken and enjoy getting them working again. All of the machines I've owned have been fun enough to play. The worst one that I've owned was Bally Time Zone. The machine was actually pretty fun to play, especially when playing against someone else. It was easy to get working again and it was very reliable. The reason I'm rating this as the worst I've owned is because it is the machine that helped me understand that I really dislike center blocks in a playfield. The center block on Time Zone caused the majority of my shots to be to the left or the right of the center block targets. I'm thankful to have owned the machine and enjoyed playing it, but it also helped me realize I strongly prefer playfields with more open layouts and without center blocks.

Have you played Popeye? I just fixed one for a customer recently and had second thoughts of doing so because it sucks so bad. Then he tells me he wants to tell it for 5k. I told him good luck you have a very small audience who wants this machine and yours is in average condition. He showed me some eBay listings and I reminded him that they weren’t completed sales and they would probably still be up for sale for some time. So if anyone is looking for a decent playing Popeye and actually likes this game send me a pm.

Probably Elektra

I completely understand this... but Elektra is one game I own that I will NEVER sell. [Along with Space Shuttle,Grand Lizard, and High Speed] I've had 3 of these 4 for nearly 20 years.

Judge Dredd. I tried to own it twice thinking I must have not given it a proper go the first time around because I was offered a white water in trade pretty quickly at the time. 2nd time I bought it I realised I just don’t really like the game

Bought it entirely on its pinside ranking back in 2014. My first modern pin. After that, I no longer buy any machine based on the pinside ranking. Unique ?…. Yes. Fun ? …. Not one bit. Enuf said.

Super Mario Bros. Hands down.

#299 10 months ago

Rush Premium because i was sold an absolute LEMON that was sabatoged from the beginning by a pissed off worker or a complete Idiot. Absolute nightmare experience dealing with a game that would destroy Node-10 boards . Next Halloween for the worst playfield design EVER!!!!

Houdini! Imposable to make the "Milk Can" shot! All 3 center lane shots are so tight they brick! Catapult has to constantly be re-adjusted!I really wanted this title, and was very disappointed! Traded it a year later!!
