I am building a simple tabletop pinball machine and wondered what angles the flippers should be able to move through. I have 3D printed a flipper alignment tool (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1644154) and by doing a bit of trigonometry it looks to be aligning the flippers 35º downwards - working from a horizontal line across the playfield.

Can I assume that they should also move 35º above horizontal, giving a 70º range of motion?

I have done numerous Google searches but can't seem to find any information, other than people trying to build virtual pinball with Box2D and Unity engines.

It depends on the game. Some games the flipper barely goes above level, others it is symmetric as you mentioned. Some it's even higher. Some start at a lower angle than others.
