Quoted from Haymaker:Its definitely got to be ghostbusters. That game is pure trash but it brings out the copers and white knights in droves if you say anything about their terrible game
Here’s the crazy thing this guy is listing a GB pro with chewed up shooter lane and split cabinet asking $7k. But it has Titan rubbers so I guess that makes it a $7k pin. He says most of the GB had split cabinets as if that makes it ok.
I don’t mind GB, think it’s got a lot of cool shots and features but I prefer the premium by a lot.

Quoted from gdonovan:Clearly has hard life on route.
100% true on all counts. I personally don't have a ton of time on ghostbusters as its not a theme that resonates with me (before my time). However, based off of what I see it sure is popular with casuals!
Quoted from rai:Maybe some people do love it, but it’s going to be very common on the market because they sold a lot and anyone who loves it probably owns it already. It’s not a game that everyone likes.
I'm not saying they don't I was just saying it kinda sorta makes sense now to me after reading this thread. I still want to play it. Hope the guy opening up near me in the next couple of months has one.
Quoted from gdonovan:Clearly has hard life on route.
I understand, just don’t know why manufacturers don’t put shooter lane protection on new games.
I have locations near me with many LE pins like Elvira and JP LE and within a month or so the shooter is showing wear.
Quoted from jgentry:The game is flat,
WTF what does that mean , besides you're really stretching to find something .
Quoted from jgentry:has nothing on the playfield other the pop ups and drop targets.
Just goes to show you don't know what you're talking about , again !
Hate the game as much as you want , just get your facts straight .
The Hobbit really is polarising
<<The game feels like a single level game and plays like a single level game. Tons of people feel the same way about. Half the time the dumb pop ups block the ramp literally making it single level.>>
<<Hobbit is not a single level game. Really there's 3 levels, ramps, the playfield, and the subway that has 3 entrances.>>
So now a game is 'multilevel' just because it has a ramp or a subway? I remember when that meant separate upper and/or lower playfields, and a game with ramps and a subway was a game with ramps and a subway. The ball enters at point X on the playfield and comes back out at point Y on the same playfield. Seems like a cheapening of the term.

Quoted from frenchmarky:So now a game is 'multilevel' just because it has a ramp or a subway?
Nobody mentioned multi-level .
Single-level game means the ball is always on the Playfield , no ramps , no Subways , upper playfields or lower playfields .
Quoted from screaminr:There you go again .
Mate , if you're not sure about something , don't say anything
[quoted image]
That's literally one piece of metal just like I said.
Quoted from PanzerFreak:Hobbit is not a single level game. Really there's 3 levels, ramps, the playfield, and the subway that has 3 entrances. Personally I'm happy to own a game that is as objective based as The Hobbit. Nothing really comes close to it's ruleset in terms of objective based modes with stages. 30+ objective based modes choregraphed to scenes from the movies (full assets too, rare today) with their own unique music, 3 mini wizard modes with multiple stages, and 1 super wizard mode. There's a reason why Hobbit's have gone up in price and it's because of the incredible code work JJP did several years ago with it's final few updates (JJP needs to do that with GNR). Not every game needs to be playing insanely fast and focused solely on points for tournament play. A deep journey based game with a ton of objectives, that also offers a mix of fast and average paced play, like the Hobbit is a welcome change IMO to many of today's games.
Also, those pop ups purposely block the ramps in some modes as you have to hit other shots to lower them.
I owned the game, you 2 act like you are teaching people about it lol. Every single pinball machine has went up in price. I guess hardbody has increased in value thanks to the incredible code work also.
I don't get the jjp apologist act. If you like the game play it and enjoy it. It's OK for others not too and you don't have to defend jjp with every breath you take. People can like and dislike what ever they want. I like games from most of the manufacturers, all of them have games I don't like also. Pinball manufacturers have made crappy games and it will happen again.
Quoted from screaminr:Nobody mentioned multi-level .
Single-level game means the ball is always on the Playfield , no ramps , no Subways , upper playfields or lower playfields .
Then call a game with ramps or a subway something else, not two-level or three-level. Multi-level is short for multiple levels, more than one level. Saying two-level or three-level is the same as saying multi-level. Maybe we should start calling 50s games with gobble holes two-level just because the ball falls into them?

Nobody called a game with ramps or subways multilevel or anything else , if they had those they're just not a single level , is that too hard to understand .
Quoted from jgentry:That's literally one piece of metal just like I said.

So it’s ok if people want to criticize a JJP game in a reply but no one can then provide a rebuttal? Lol that’s not the way conversation typically works. Of course it’s ok for others not to like a game, prepare for a reply though when someone doesn’t agree.
It’s funny seeing how some of the JJP haters want arguments to go “Let me reply to you and tell you why you are wrong but you can’t do the same to me”…no.
Quoted from screaminr:Nobody called a game with ramps or subways multilevel or anything else , if they had those they're just not a single level , is that too hard to understand .
Somebody said "Really there's 3 levels, ramps, the playfield and the subway..." If you want to insist that's not equivalent to saying it has multiple levels, more power to ya.
Saying a game can only be single level *or* something else because it has a ramp, but the something else does not mean multiple levels, is the wrong term.
Quoted from PanzerFreak:So it’s ok if people want to criticize a JJP game in a reply but no one can then provide a rebuttal? Lol that’s not the way conversation typically works. Of course it’s ok for others not to like a game, prepare for a reply though when someone doesn’t agree.

I'm not a JJP hater. I like several of their games a lot. It's just funny that the same couple of people crusade for jjp and reply to everything. Did you not notice the stern games listed in this thread? This isn't a jjp hate thread by any means.
Quoted from frenchmarky:Somebody said "Really there's 3 levels, ramps, the playfield and the subway..." If you want to insist that's not equivalent to saying it has multiple levels, more power to ya.
I said that but I know it’s not a true 3 level game with lower and upper playfields. Someone was acting as if the ramps didn’t exist in the the game and undermining everything else in the game which is why I said what I did.
Quoted from PanzerFreak:I said that but come I know it’s not a true 3 level game with lower and upper playfields. Someone was acting as if the ramps didn’t exist in the the game and undermining everything else in the game which is why I said what I did.
Played Hobbit only once so far, the game is loaded with stuff.
I can see where people might get confused with the term multi-level if unfamiliar with Black Hole and Haunted House not to mention various pins made in Europe with two levels. Lets face it there are pin-snobs who refuse to play any game without a DMD minimum which is rather strange to me.
Quoted from Ollulanus:Orbitor isn't polarizing. It's terrible. It's interesting that it exists, but one "game" every 10 years is more than enough. Anyone who says they like it is either lying to you, themselves, or is so high their just giggling at the ball sloshing around. Prolly all three.
Yeah there seems to be a lot of people in this thread who don't understand what polarizing means lol

Ghostbusters sells for a lot because bozos see the name ghostbusters on it, take a big sip of soylent, and say TAKE MY HECKIN MONIES! Same with BTTF.

I'd use the term 'two dimensional' if the ball never leaves the playfield rather than 'single level', then 'three dimensional' if it has ramps or subways.

Not necessarily true, gb has lots of toys + insane theme integration. Not to forget that the artwork is stunning as well, id be curious to know what gb wouldve been like if it got the GOT approach artwise..

The Hobbit really is polarising
[quoted image]
It’s actually a testament to the designer and coders of The Hobbit to pack that much in a game and still make it boring.
GB for sure. Game looks incredible and nice features. I loved it at first with ideas of buying one. However, the more I played it the more I hated it. Every game I played had it's own set of issues and way more frustrations than fun. Still, Stern sold a ton of them. GB started the crazy overpriced topper thing, too. Everyone made fun of the overpriced fisher price topper but were soon begging Stern to make more.
Quoted from Mudflaps:It’s actually a testament to the designer and coders of The Hobbit to pack that much in a game and still make it boring.
Man I so wanted to like the Hobbit. Loved the theme, loved the art, loved the music, loved the assets. It had everything I could want in it excepting one song... and it looked fantastic. Lots of toys (4 pop ups... a talking freaking dragon!). It was such a slow player and multiball after multiball after multiball. You can have the complete package but to me the code is what killed it. There was so much in that game, but its just... boring.
I voted Halloween, but Ghostbusters, Stern Star Wars, and JJP games in general are also up there. Also single level playfields in the modern era.
Some people are still very picky about CGC remakes vs originals. Some say they shoot noticeably different, but all measurements that I've seen show them being the same.
I’m curious to know how GB would have turned out if it had not been designed by a pedophile. As it is, right now I have to look at my Bride of Pinbot in a whole new light. More as one big- Zingy-Bingy, blow-up-doll reject who gets to now stare at me with that blank adult bookstore “Oh!” face forever. I mean, it has always been kind of creepy when you list the literal goals of the game- shoot your ball into her mouth, then shoot your balls into her eyes, then shoot your balls down her throat to give her “human influx” and make her turn human. No perverts working on that machine, right? Would have thought he would have played up the gatekeeper-keymaster schtick more in GB with that kind of track record.
I’ll add X-Men and The Munsters.
Both games that never seemed to fulfill their potential based a lot on the code and if you bought one when they first came out.
Personally, I kinda like X-Men but Munsters didn’t connect with me.
I voted for Ghostbusters, there is even a huge division among the pro vs premium owners.
I also agree about CGC games having divisions, they are wonderfully built and have excellent DMD enhancements, but there is a difference when you have shot the originals for years and years.
Quoted from kklank:Munsters didn’t connect with me.
Munsters almost connected with me with the lower playfield, but I wanted it full scale, not Stewie sized like my FG, been there, done that. I will say Grandpa’s basement was a better mini game than Stewie’s, however the initial coding of the entire title was so weak, most couldn’t get past the fact it felt more like shooting a cheap Monster Bash or Adams Family knock off than a “new” Munsters.
Quoted from ItsOnlyPinball:there is a difference
Tastes great, less filling. The CGC remake question will rage on for ever. Don’t get sucked into the vortex, swim away from the riptide. (They shoot the same)
Quoted from Pastor69:Not necessarily true, gb has lots of toys + insane theme integration. Not to forget that the artwork is stunning as well, id be curious to know what gb wouldve been like if it got the GOT approach artwise..
That is true, the game is absolutely gorgeous, and it does look like an awesome world under glass when you step up to the game, particularly with a few mods. I cannot knock it for that. My jokes aside, Ghostbusters is a dream theme for me (like many others), which makes it even more disappointing that its a big stinky turd. Interestingly I think all those reasons I just listed is a big reason why people have convinced themselves its actually a good game (copers)

I despise Game of Thrones, are all the people owning them "copers" as well? Of course not, everyone has different tastes and I'm glad we have choices.
Quoted from Betelgeuse:Maybe a poll is in order? I think that HWN, JJP GnR, and GB are the very clear contenders. I have seen plenty of people claim that each of these is one of the worst or one of the best.
It looks like my 3 predictions are in the lead so far. I will say that there are not many games out there that I actively dislike. I like pinball enough to see some appeal even with titles that don't click with me. The games that I am the most critical of are usually games that I have owned, because I feel like I have given them the most fair shake possible.
GB falls into this category. There are so many head scratching design issues with that game. Airballs all over the place, balls jumping the inlanes, magna slings tossing the ball out of play at will, clunky right ramp, slimer getting dragged over the plastics, clunky scoleri drops, a lack of satisfying shots, and the overly large flipper gap and odd flipper angle. Even if I bolted a bunch of crap to the game to iron out some of these issues, I don't even like the way the theme was integrated. ZY art is great for Marvel, but just not right for GB. I'm pretty sure GB was not an anime cartoon with bright Easter colors. The design team just didn't seem to understand what made the original movie special. The music was also all over the place, the callout choices questionable, and the code was repetitive. Yes, I know there were modded sound packages... too little too late for me.
Quoted from gdonovan:I despise Game of Thrones, are all the people owning them "copers" as well? Of course not, everyone has different tastes and I'm glad we have choices.
GB and GOT are great games and are forever keepers.
I wonder if it would be possible to do some magic on the backend of the ratings for pinside games to come up with a real answer on this one.
Quoted from Bublehead:I’m curious to know how GB would have turned out if it had not been designed by a pedophile.
It would have been much better with anyone other than Trudeau designing it; he's just not very good at it.
Quoted from yancy:I mean he was clearly distracted.
Well one internet really got huge after Congo was released...he sort of dips out for a couple decades after that
I didn't realize GB had so much hate. It's certainly a punishing game but has some really satisfying shots. I don't think Stern has made a prettier looking game either.
I would've thought Stern's Star Wars would've made the list. That game is hated by most the people at league, while be other peoples favorite.
Quoted from gliebig:GB and GOT are great games and are forever keepers.
My wife and I were huge watchers of the show, we tried the pin and were convinced quickly it's not for us.
Everyone has different tastes.
If you think GB is punishing, come over my place and I'll coin up Black Hole for you. An awesomely brutal and unforgiving game. Having the upper locked ball eject after you drain a ball is just such a FU game rule.
PLAY BETTER.
Quoted from curban:I voted GB, but I don't believe that Love and Hate are mutually exclusive. Love the game. Hate the cheap drains. Love that I hate the cheap drains. Hate that I love the game, because I play it so much and then make myself miserable....then I have a great game and I'm euphoric.
Compared to AC/DCpro. Also cheap drains. Loved the music...but after that it was just hate, hate, hate and fastest game ever to leave my collection. Guess I just didn't 'get it'. (Or maybe mine wasn't setup right, SDTM drains from successful bell shots, infuriating) So, I'll throw AC/DCpro up as a polarizing pin.
I agree with your assessment! I always thought it was a normal set of flippers away from being a phenomenal game. But I drove myself insane playing it! My son has been angry with me for 2 years because I sold Ghostbusters. I just can't bring myself to pay the current market value to get it back. LOL.
Especially in tournaments alot of people have rather strong opinions about them. Personally, I love EMs
Quoted from gdonovan:Black Hole
Oddly well titled because that’s where all my quarters went that I spent playing it. If I never ever NOT qualify for reentry ever again will be too soon.

Besides the art being shitty, it's a great game. I love the code.
I wouldn’t say “polarizing” as much as generationally splitting. Those who have lived pinball history are not destined to hate EMs like those who discovered pinball in its modern electronic phase. There are times when an EM will surprise even the most staunch EM haters. Yeah, they didn’t talk to us, they only made crude bings and bongs and clacks, they barely challenged us they were Sooooo easy, and had rules the depth of a mud puddle. I guess we should have just chucked them all in the dumpster and tossed in a match. Definitely didn’t lead to anything worthwhile.
