For me it's GB by a good deal.

You gotta go in kind of deep to the HWN thread to get the real defenders; small group.

    True GNR can slip in.

    #52 1 year ago

GnR is worst game that some people think is good.

zeppelin then Beatles,I like them but they have a bad rep.

It seems like every game JJP releases is polarizing (these aren't my opinions, but the common complaints that we hear):
WOZ - people that think it's slow and floaty and don't like the outlane save games, casino sounds, theme from 80 years ago.
Hobbit - Big, slow playing game with long ball times, boring.
Dialed In - Mom Jeans guy, terrible theme, prices tanked after release, etc.
JJPOTC - Sold terribly, people hated seeing Johnny Depp, bad theme integration (lack of assets), overly complex rules, modes that seem the same
Wonka - bad theme integration, game too hard to progress deep, casino sounds.
GNR - Already listed numerous times in this thread even though it's the biggest hit JJP has released with great assets.
TS4 - based on TS4 and not the original trilogy, iPad on playfield, casino sounds, too easy and made for non pinheads, price too high, etc.

Don;t think that fits the point of the thread; no one is yelling how awesome LZ is.

Lots of good candidates on here. I will throw out Stargate. Good game, but, it gets all the Gottlieb haters.
People always comment, if this were a WPC it would be a great game.

Well 10 people out of 10,000 aint much polarization

True people always sport the fact it has this and that and mini wizards yada yada; one of the worst 90s pins. So depressing and shitty. Man I fucking hate that game.
    But I digress....

I had a HUO GNR about 25 years ago. It lasted about a week before I had to sell it. The bad thing about it was that I actually love GNR music. But like most Data East games, game play sucks, artwork is bad and the build quality sucks.

Bustin' makes me feel good. Or very bad, apparently. GB for the win.

Some people love it, not my cup of tea. Pretty though.

When i put up my Monster Bash and Deadpool up for sale I had a lot of people offering GNR, now I'm sort of understanding why. I never played the game but this thread is making me open my eyes to this.

I still want to play it , it looks cool as hell.

Played mine last night, which considering I was beat from splitting wood all day, it beat my ass.

    356,000,000.

My personal best is in the 3 billion range and it was just not happening. It just laughed.. and laughed.. and laughed.

Usually Black Hole in the corner abuses me of any notion of skills.

Just traded mine. I feel like people are playing hot potatoe trading/selling G&Rs and someone is going to get stuck with them in the end. Most distributors still have them NIB as well.

I was so excited to trade for one.

Owning a G&R is like owning a boat. The two happiest days of the boat owner (G&R owner's) life are the day they buy the boat and the day they sell the boat.

In early seventies I endured a family road trip to western coast of Canada and back - to Ontario.

Ma had just bought a box set of Bugs / Beatles music.

It took about 30 years before I could listen to a single song. lol

    Quoted from gdonovan:

I dislike Beatles because I despise the band, number of levels has nothing to do with it.
I had two older brothers who played them endlessly, I'd rather stab out my ears with a ballpoint pen than listen to a Beatles song again.

Maybe some people do love it, but it’s going to be very common on the market because they sold a lot and anyone who loves it probably owns it already. It’s not a game that everyone likes.

When JJP GNR was announced, I yawned so hard my head imploded. I think it was the instantaneous vacuum created by the thought of listening to Sweet Child 'o Mine for the umpteenth thousand time was just too much for my skull to bear.

Lol, I said in general. If you can't admit it feels like a single level game I don't know what to tell. It's not popular for a reason and it's not because it's a jjp game.

How can it be in general a single level pin , the fact is , it isn't .
If you don't like the game fair enough but don't make up shit to try to prove a point .

    #80 1 year ago

Everyone keeps saying Ghostbusters...I thought the game was either "Symmetrical Book Stacking" or "Who Brought the Dog" X 1000

The thing about GB is it is the one pinball machine that everyone LOVES to HATE… so it’s a dichotomy and an enigma and a paradox all rolled into one.

No they don't. Only a few.

I think it's Stern's best game after TWD.

Lol, nobody is making up anything. The game is flat, floaty, slow, has nothing on the playfield other the pop ups and drop targets. The 1 ramp that goes 2 directions is as far back on the playfield as humanly possible. The game feels like a single level game and plays like a single level game. Tons of people feel the same way about. Half the time the dumb pop ups block the ramp literally making it single level.

Not me. I'd be glad to never have to play it again and if no one ever brought it up. Only Stern from the past decade I actively dislike.

Seems like the same 6 pins come up over and over in this thread. Care to make a poll so we can find out who the winner is?

Poll added by popular demand. Only solid states and pins mentioned in this thread included. Joke entries that no one likes (Thunderbirds) removed.

    #89 1 year ago

Hmm... I would be happy to own any of the pins mentioned in this thread. Playing any pinball machine is better than working.

    #90 1 year ago

I was surprised to see Dr. Who mentioned a few times. I very much dislike the theme, by far the worst in my collection, but that upper left flipper loop and W-H-O combo keeps me coming back all day. Very satisfying.

    #91 1 year ago

If I had to choose the most polarizing machines from this list, I would go with Twilight Zone, Ghostbusters and Toy Story.

    cough cough............LED ZEPPELIN

    Quoted from ccbiggsoo7:

    cough cough............LED ZEPPELIN

    Oh.. that's a good one..

Particularly since so many players love the rules and flow of the game.. but then, the casuals/collectors that just want something stuffed with more toy bling and complexity.

    #95 1 year ago

But do ppl think GB is the goat? Maybe I did for a minute when it was my first NIB at the early days of my hobby. I think it’s fantastic, but I think that's the difference here. Is ppl still actually think GNR is the goat due to the "experience". Hell I think it's still even in the top 15 to 20 as we speak. Inconceivable!!!

    #96 1 year ago

Also surprised Rob Zombie didn’t get enough mentions before the poll was made.

    #97 1 year ago
    Quoted from Yoko2una:

I don't think its polarizing due to most people knowing it shoots like complete trash.

Ghostbusters: Polarizing game that received a couple big game changing code updates to heavily improve it
Guns n Roses: Polarizing game with no public code updates in over a year...

Dear JJP, please please release far more code for GNR.

    #99 1 year ago
    Quoted from jgentry:

Hobbit is not a single level game. Really there's 3 levels, ramps, the playfield, and the subway that has 3 entrances. Personally I'm happy to own a game that is as objective based as The Hobbit. Nothing really comes close to it's ruleset in terms of objective based modes with stages. 30+ objective based modes choregraphed to scenes from the movies (full assets too, rare today) with their own unique music, 3 mini wizard modes with multiple stages, and 1 super wizard mode. There's a reason why Hobbit's have gone up in price and it's because of the incredible code work JJP did several years ago with it's final few updates (JJP needs to do that with GNR). Not every game needs to be playing insanely fast and focused solely on points for tournament play. A deep journey based game with a ton of objectives, that also offers a mix of fast and average paced play, like the Hobbit is a welcome change IMO to many of today's games.

Also, those pop ups purposely block the ramps in some modes as you have to hit other shots to lower them.

    Quoted from koji:

    Stern 'Orbitor 1'

Orbitor isn't polarizing. It's terrible. It's interesting that it exists, but one "game" every 10 years is more than enough. Anyone who says they like it is either lying to you, themselves, or is so high their just giggling at the ball sloshing around. Prolly all three.
