Hi group,

My Skateball has started getting random resets in the middle of a game. As the subject line says, I was wondering what the consensus is as to what is the most likely cause for this era game. Thanks for responses.

Pinwiki has a synopsis on the MPU reset circuit:

It can be as simple as your connectors not supplying a steady voltage.

There can be other uncommon reasons for a reset, but common things happen commonly. . . so start there.

Is it happening at the same time every time? When I got my Frontier I had some fried flipper coil diodes that I replaced and the resetting cleared up.

I had a faulty mpu once. Cold solders are another and a pain to find.

Easiest place to start narrowing it down to me is tugging and tweaking on the mpu and solenoid board connectors and see if you can make it reset.

Wavering 5 volts from the solenoid driver board.

low 5v/12v. caused by bad connectors usually.

slam tilt from a switch matrix problem.

intermittent IC socket connection. gently flex on board/chips to see if it causes a reset.

A stuck coin switch will cause random resets when the right combination of target hit and drop targets are down.
