    I neglected to change the batteries in a game and it leaked. What is the best way to clean them?

    Let's see a pic of the board.
    To answer your question...
    ...remove impacted parts
    ...sand to bare copper
    ...repair traces as necessary
    ...conformal coat bare copper
    ...socket and install new parts

    Abating corrosion correctly takes quite a bit of work. If you don't get every bit of corrosion off the board, it will continue to spread.
    Here is one I did a while back for a client.
