Quoted from yancy:

To me, games like FH and WW have ideal code for their layouts, so I have zero interest in any "upgrades." .....

Shit is awful....UNLESS it improves animations like that bad ass new NGG Gofer!

BOP 2.0 might be an actual upgrade, but it's coming from the legendarily shitty game rules wise.

#102 2 years ago

BOP 2.0 rules are definitely better on paper, but they completely gutted the heartbeat multiball start sequence, which is about all that game had going for it.

#103 2 years ago

I was reading up on Whirlwind 2.0 the rule changes:

- Upper and Lower Super Jets. Independently progressed
- Expanded compass target sequences for lighting lock
- Re-light main mulitball jackpot via skyway ramp option
- Expanded Combos shots, 2 way and 3 way
- Cellar Hurry Up
- Ball Save
- Auto launcher option
- Black Knight WAR Multiball secret homage
- Moonlight Madness Mode

The expanded compass target sequences probably piques my interest the most since the compass shots are what this game is about, along with the cellar drop. Not a fan of adding ball saves. I guess I'm in the "leave it alone" camp as well. Not worth the extra cost for a converted 2.0 machine.

To me, games like FH and WW have ideal code for their layouts, so I have zero interest in any "upgrades." Especially if they're gonna replace the perfect old-school music & sounds. BOP 2.0 had more modes, but fell really flat for me. No soul.

Quoted from CrazyLevi:

It should be a crime, or at least a misdemeanor, to bastardize classics like Wwind and Funhouse like this.

I've read over the Whirlwind rewrite thread, and it sounds like they're only adding on to how it already plays, like incorporating the famous 3-way combo that is currently fun to hit, but doesn't mean much in terms of the rules. But that all the original gameplay will still be there. All original sounds, music, and callouts too thankfully.

100% agree on the music and sounds being sacred. I've seen a couple videos of people playing Meteors with new code, and it sounds like they've replaced the 1979 synthesizer noises with random Star Wars and Star Trek sounds. Such a boring-minded travesty.

There's hundreds of DMD games out there already.
BOP 2 sucks, and that's not even a great game to begin with. Wish this fad would expire.

Whirlwind is perfect!

Agree BOP 2 wasn’t great. However prob part of that is the restrictive layout - always hard for it not to be just about that ramp shot.

It kills me to admit this but Dialed In really surpassed all my expectations once I had the chance to play it.

Why does it "kill you" to say this?
You wanted to dislike it?

Quoted from metallik:

Vaguely remember back in the day hearing something about Louis Koziarz not being interested in fixing anything once his employment with WMS ended.

It was more about WMS lawyers sending me a cease-and-desist after finding out I had the source code + tools and was messing around with it. (That was prompted by someone in Australia that found out I was doing it and threatened to start suing everyone)

In turn that didn't make my current employers happy, so it was all quietly dropped. I destroyed everything else.

Lyman or Cameron got away with it, and I didn't. Wanna buy a boss gofer?

Exactly Charging people to do code for games you had no rights to be playing around with, causing Problems with Pat and Williams Lawyers, You lied To Pat Lawlor Face to make a few bucks on the side. Bit Different doing Home use only Bug Fixes For the Hobby. Not Programming that Pce of Shit Golf Game you did.

#dialed-in will always be my favorite... not a huge fan of the theme, but shoots soooo well!
Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory (LE) also shoots great but I still prefer Dialed In
