I haven't heard/seen this before, and it's not exactly logical/practical to manufacture that way. They have to match the LE game number with the plaque, the signed certificate, and programmed into the machine (since it shows the LE # on boot). Working sequentially would make that much less error-prone.
It's true and it's been well known for a long time. I have a Jurassic LE with a mfg date 3 days earlier than one a friend has. But my LE number is several hundred higher than his. In fact my friend has now had 2 Jurassic LE's. And when you look at the mfg dates and LE #'s of his two and my one they aren't aligned at all.
This question comes up for pretty much every Stern LE in the club forums and the answer is always the same. Clearly they have a process that works pretty well for them, and it doesn't involve sequential numbering as they're manufactured.
