I don't buy chrome balls anymore. Just get the polished carbon steel. They don't shine quite as much, but the difference is barely noticeable, and they aren't expensive.

I have used steel wool on old balls to clean them up. Works pretty good. If they look ok after that, and I can't feel any rough spots, I'll play with them. Or let other people play with them.

But like I mentioned before, new balls are so inexpensive, less than $2 each. Usually every game I buy or shop gets a new ball rather than a cleaned up old one.

Believe me, I know what I'm talking about when I'm talking about old balls.
