There were some EM games in the late '60s or early '70s that I haven’t seen around, and I can’t find word of them here, but I think they were popular and well distributed.

One was an airplane that flew on a rod, going around horizontally in a circle above the playfield. You controlled the height of the plane, as it went around. The game was to navigate the plane through an arch, over a barn, and maybe under a bridge or something.

Another was a shooting game, where you are a gunner shooting down three airplanes that, if I remember right, were painted in fluorescent paint on clear discs. They moved around the background erratically, making them hard to hit.

Why don’t we see these around being restored?

I guess they were just EM games, but maybe there is a better term for it.

You seem them in "mechanical game museums and things like that, and sometimes they'll show up at pinball/arcade shows.

The reason you don't see them in home collections is they are large and generally not much fun beyond playing once or twice as a novelty.

They are around, but they aren't pinball. They just don't hold much appeal for pinball collectors with limited space and funds (ie: most pinball collectors).

They aren’t pinball but I thought there'd have been more discussion of them here in the non- pinball discussions. Guess I didn’t remember that they were big games.

Lots of arcade game posts in the two threads below. They do get attention on the forum and many of us have a game or two in our collection.

I think you are referring to Midway's Stunt Pilot.

    Thanks!

I spent a lot of loose change on it at the Target while my mom was shopping. Even Target had an arcade back then!
