Quoted from PopBumperPete:

but the sounds on Frontier are bad

Wait until you hear the rock version soundtrack of TBAG.

A truly bizarre choice in audio that has nothing to do with the original series and drowns out the voice callouts.

Quoted from kvan99:

Dirty Harry has one of the most unenthusiastic callouts ever....I also agree on Dr. Who with the Daleks. The other annoying one is AMH.

Those unenthusiastic call outs are done by Clint Eastwood playing Dirty Harry. They are authentic to the character in the movie, he's not supposed to sound excited.

Which one? "I know a great place for some hot dogs"? I love that one myself!

Well the story goes he only did them after they had another guy impersonate him, quite well it seems.

They're another one that they are so lazy they become classic.

TMNT - when the ball hits the pop bumpers..... that got annoying real quick!

#106 6 years ago

The best thing about this hobby is after being in it for a long time you can one day read a thread on pinside and find out there's an Aaron Spelling pinball machine.

Come on O-din..really? The only cool thing about that game are the pics of Eastwood himself and the 3D sculpts. Also it was way too easy to get to the wizard mode.

#109 6 years ago

He talks just like he did in the movies. Calm and cool. It's sure better than having some random hillbilly doing the callouts.

I don't know about that easy part either. There was nothing easy about the way mine was set up. It started to piss me off so much I sold it to a buddy. My first one might have been slightly easier.

TBAG?

There are now 52 games tagged to this thread...52!

And 51 of them are an improvement over Shaq!

#112 6 years ago

It is actually TAG as the owner prefers it to be called , but as it is Thunder-birds are go.
Some of u choose to call it TBAG as it is funnier than TAG which is more like an old TV series about naval lawyers or something like that.
Have you never heard of HxxxPIN?
I don't bring it up as it is a controversial topic here on Pinside and some other forums.

#113 6 years ago

Split Second - “Hurry hurry hurry hurry...” ad infinitum.

#114 6 years ago

I can’t believe it took two pages to get to Tee’d Off. The polka music is irritating but the callouts are something else entirely. Not only are they not funny, but the people reason the lines sound embarrassed to be saying them.

I'd have to go with Rocky & Bullwinkle .... lousy music, lousy call outs .... Wrong Hat! .... it's bad

Thank you Mr. Know-it-All!

I disagree, the music and call outs are reminiscent of the show. The wrong hat can get annoying, but if you adjust the switches correctly and replace the foam, that significantly lessens that.

woz - for the most obvious reasons...

#118 6 years ago

Ooh, wait... How about 24?

Mary Lynn Rajskub (Chloe) does annoyed and broody well, but energetic pinball callouts are not in her wheelhouse. I hear her readings and imagine the Stern guys in the sound booth pinching the bridge of their noses and muttering "Just one more take with more energy...please?"

#119 6 years ago

No one has mentioned Tommy?

Love the Who's album, but ambivalent about the musical used on the pin. Sooo sad.

Not to mention "Jackpote! Jackpote!"

(Hella bad video mode besides! But that's a different thread.)

Plus there is that impotent threat of legal action to take into account for anyone who refers to it on any forum as TBAG. LOL.

No Fear was pretty lame imho. So lame watching 40 year old guys trying to be extreme.

You weak, pathetic fool! Is that your best?!

I can't believe MM got mentioned. I'm too far in thr zone to notice if "suuuuperrrr jackpot AHAHAHAHA!" is repeatedly going. One of my favorite music tracks in pinball. And overall some of the best callouts as well.

Not going to pick on FT or Road Show. Their sound fits their themes. Definitely not picking on Gorgar, BK or early "talkie" pins. "Gorgar Speaks!" the very first pinball callout as we understand it. Plus the Atari VCS-like soundchip.

I have never actually heard Dialed In much, because the only place I have played it is easily the loudest room in which I have played pinball. I played Theater of Magic in the same place and could not hear "shoot the magic trunk!"

ToM callouts are limited but I like the organ music, perfect for the theme. And let's face it, it's one of the most beautiful cabs ever made.

Jack*Bot? Yeah, it's a robot theme, but it's acasino robot theme. Saxophone it is. Diner? The 50s-rock MIDI sounds exactly what a game made in 1990 about such a theme should sound like. Order up! And stir that cup! Underrated game.

Tee'd Off is a real contender here. I think that music (I won't insult polka by calling it polka) is worse than the gopher. "Keep yet shirt on!"

#127 6 years ago

X-Men. Beast....these are a few of my favorite things... Ugh. Gawd awful.

#128 6 years ago
Quoted from Pinslot:

All WPC games with German speech. TOM in particular with its "schiess auf dem Koffer" will make your ears bleed.

Have to disagree. I deliberately installed German audio roms in my Who Dunnit: "Und dann, war ich mitten im Fall". Brilliant.

But I also enjoyed Beavis and Butthead Do America more in German.

(I am Dutch, so I am not biased!)

Obviously the TBAG marketing strategy didn't translate well from the limited userbase of AussieArcade to a global audience on pinside.

Insult your potential end consumer on AA and earn unquestioning sycophancy.
Insult your potential end consumer on pinside and earn deserved contempt.

Roadshow, I can't stand the multi ball music.

Quoted from Avi8er:

Roadshow, I can't stand the multi ball music.

I just wish I could find a Road Show that worked well enough for me to get a MB without getting stuck/waiting for a ball search every other shot. The music fits the theme (were you expecting Metallica or something?) and Red/Ted bantering back and forth are some good callouts too. One day I'll find one that I can get in a groove on.

That might be the first time an actual real-world song was sampled and played in a pin, as opposed to a MIDI "cover" like Golden Earring's Twilight Zone, or ZZ Top's La Grange in The Getaway. Of course that is now a standard deal with the rock band-themed Sterns.

I hear fun house can he challenging after a while but I've only played it a few times.

Music in Judge Dredd is hideous. Equally bad is the “saxaphoney” music in Jackbot, totally not aligned with the sci-fi robot theme.

Judge Dredd Music kicks ass..you sir are a madman

Oh cmon HEAVY!!!! METAL!!! MELTDOWNNNNN! is awesome!

The German Sound ROMs in B/W games are dire. I cringe every time my friend’s TOM says: „Schießt den Koffer“ in a really annoying voice.

#137 5 years ago

Capcom's Breakshot, absolutely terrible callouts, audio and music. Followed by Tee'd Off... probably my least favorite game of all time.

#138 5 years ago

Bad cats! Meow meow meow meow....

#139 5 years ago
Quoted from TopMoose:

TMNT is pretty rough. "Excellent!" "Whoa!" "Awesome!" And a tinny, repetitive soundtrack.

Ninja ninja!

And lost in space

#140 5 years ago

Given that they managed to get Sylvester McCoy to do (most of) the Doctor's lines, and you can just about recognise Terry Molloy as Davros, it's the crummy sample quality that lets Doctor Who down. The Daleks are gravelly even by Dalek standards. The music would have sounded so much better and less repetitive with a DCS sound package too.

#141 5 years ago

To me BSD sound package awful in general and the girl making the ahhh sound is unbearable after hearing it a thousand times in each game.

Aerosmith. I'm glad that table got relegated to C locations pretty quickly after launch. Listening to Aerosmith is bad on its own, but the callouts from the toybox really put the cherry on that shit sundae.

#143 5 years ago

Rob Zombie is fucking dire too. Has the same hamfisted forced edginess someone called out about Metallica earlier in the thread, but turned up to 11. Flips like garbage too. Fortunately that title is so buggy I don't think there are any on location anymore.

#144 5 years ago

Dont know if anyones mentioned the music from Blackwater 100, but it gets my vote for worst music. Those of you who dont like Fish Tales because of the hillbilly music, go take a listen to Blackwater 100. Makes Fish Tales sound like Beethovens 9th.

#145 5 years ago

Whitewater!!!
Those shouts/screams are unbearable. Music is awful too.
Make me dislike this game more than i reckon i should.

Teed’off is very annoying, and Lethal Weapon is pretty bad (but there is something kinda cool to it though haha).

Big Buck Hunter Pro... bad

Party Zone: super irritating “fancy” music (not)

Roadshow: oh my god « Friiiiiiiiiiiday » - i could kill her.

Gorgaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar : ...... who. Did. This.

#146 5 years ago

If people are seriously going to have a go at the first ever talking production game for having the 'worst callouts' when sample hardware was in its infancy and memory was at a premium cost, they can fuck off, then fuck off from there, then keep fucking off till they've gone all the way round the world and back to this point. Then fuck off.

#147 5 years ago

Callout: AC DC by far. I know it’s Ritchie’s voice but I removed it in the setting and ended by selling the game with no regrets... great designer though

#149 5 years ago

Wellthe point wasnt that i was « attacking the 1st ever talking game » - trust that i respect this.
Just sorry that for the one word they used (they could have used other sounds/words more than likely), just not: Gorgaaaaaaaar

now let’s all fuck off
