Oh yes, I forgot to mention that. Games with lucrative mystery awards are a poor choice for tournaments.

See, I don't get it......couldn't you make the same point about Casino Run on Jackbot? It's a total crapshoot what you get, and sometimes you will get billions of points, and other times you will get a bomb on the second pull (Which on MY game is instant death because I have early code that you can't cheat out 1 bomb.....you just lose everything lol..). It's one big huge mystery mode.

I love taking my kid's eye locks in Jackbot, watching them freak out, and then they get multiball when they put one more ball in there, lol.

. So there is no way to have a 'stealth' tourney that awards points.

That's not true...charity events don't have to be on the calendar (unless something I'm not aware of has changed on that front.....I have seen generally around a week and a half official notice given, as compared to the month in advance for everything else...) and as of right now, can score 25+15 base points for main+side tourney....

    12.5, right, sorry.

As I said in email before....gonna be REAL interesting to see where "points ghettos" develop because of the lack of the guaranteed minimum points. Highly suspect my area will be one, since we only seem to have a core group of 4-6 people show up.

Also had an amusing thought.....just how many points will Pinburgh be worth now?

    Quoted from ifpapinball:

However, depending on the number of players in your league you may see the overall value actually decrease compared to the current rules.

    Oh smeg.... lol...

I just remembered what I was going to ask a few hours ago... is there going to be a change to how many tournaments are showing up on your "Active" status, or are we still going to have the same "cap" on number of qualified events that count towards actual points? I don't think it ultimately matters either way for me personally, but seems like with many more entries being made, it might be easier to "cap out" under the new system.

*Edit* NEVERMIND, THIS WAS JUST ANSWERED LOL.

    Quoted from pinballcorpse:

Further, with private collectors hosting, space will be an issue as well as the potential for exclusivity. That is, it is doubtful many private collectors will want every player across the state showing up at their home looking for WPPR points.

It was just stated rule on private locations is still 1/year ranked event...

If they're excluding people, they're only handicapping themselves and everyone that does attend.

    Quoted from pinballcorpse:

Unless I am reading it wrong, the irony will be that winning a PAPA circuit event in a state could be trivial compared to the sum of the day to day points available, which seems counter intuitive to what the intent of a state and world ranking of players should be.

No, the irony is that this is EXACTLY what people were asking for when SCS was announced. There were complaints that SCS tournament would qualify for the next year's rankings.... this will mitigate that, quite a bit...

Many people actually enjoy dropping coins. That's how the majority of us started in this hobby. I think you'll be surprised just how small the fallout is by requiring coin drop.

It actually pisses me off that our local location guy @ Nickelrama turns off the coin drop without us even asking. Okay, sure, they charge 3$ to get in the door, but you know people are playing way more than three bucks worth when they show up AND to boot his games are normally TWENTY CENTS A GAME!!!

    Quoted from ifpapinball:

We're likely to not limit residential tournaments, but instead require a minimum player count of 16 players for it to be endorsed by the IFPA.

Screw that. I'm willing to host events at my house, but I have four machines and 800 sq ft including my bedroom and my kids bedroom. You do that math, and tell me where 16 active players are gonna be... outside smoking in my carport, eh?

Seriously going to say that an event like this wouldn't even qualify for points AT ALL is just crap...at least SIX of the players in this went to state champs.... not because they were exploiting points by having a tournament at a house, but because they were good. The other five guys in that tourney all beat me at state champs AFAIK so it's not like I'm doing a very good job of sandbagging, I guess...

See ya'll at state champs next year, if I don't get buried by charity tournaments the last few months of the year.

Other than that.... I'm out. I'd rather have fun than do all this micromanagement and grinding crap. It's not worth the mental stress and time investment to grind 100 tournaments a year much less convince 14 other people to show up for a three base point tournament, just so I can attend one more tournament the next year and claim my e-schween is bigger than yours. I'm pretty sure I can show up at Buffalo Billards or Pinballz, and get my butt handed to me by the same guys that will at State Champs, so no big loss there. It was kind of fun to think that I had the stuff to compete with the best in the state, but I can't dedicate that kind of time to something that's not my job.

All yours, Xerico.. I'd rather have parties and get togethers and have people actually show up to play my games than to continue trying to perpetuate IFPA in the face of the impossible task of getting non-tournament players to care about tournaments when there's nothing in it for them. D/FW is just a failed market for competitive pinball, and I don't have the time or motivation to figure out why. Looking forward to running (hopefully) a big tourney for Labor Day at Nickelrama, but after that and our league season ends, I think I'm just gonna kick back and let all this crap sort itself out until everyone's points depreciate out over the next three years and see where things end up. I'll look foward to big tourneys when they happen, but I'm not wasting my time that I could be spending either with my family or with MORE of my friends, not just a limited subset of them, to do this anymore.. guess I'm not as "hardcore" as I thought I was if that's the conclusion I've come to.

It will be nice to just be able to play pinball with friends again and not have to worry about all the BS...that's for sure. This system may end up being more "fair" in terms of grading out tournaments, but it already feels like all the "fun" for all but the most elite of players is going to be sucked right out of it.

I hope someone DOES pick up the ball locally and figure it out because I want to play in bigger tournaments, not 100 of them a year..

    Quoted from ifpapinball:

I actually think the elite players are in the most trouble with respect to the SCS (not their World ranking).

Yeah, I can't argue that point, but at some point, I want to be part of the bigger rankings. Some people may be happy with just SCS, and this system will work out for them.....as long as they have 16 people to show up at their house 100 times a year.

    Quoted from ifpapinball:

Trent #2 has been on a roll lately. He would be ranked 23rd with 501.03 WPPR points.
The sleepers are really Trent #3, #4 and #5 all of which are moving up the rankings at a record clip:
    Trent #3 - 298.19 WPPR points (ranked 109th)
    Trent #4 - 216.71 WPPR points (ranked 178th)
    Trent #5 - 129.40 WPPR points (ranked 379th)
As for the one ball tournaments, all 700 Pinburgh players could play a 1-ball tournament on Aquarius, and it would grade out to 0% [only full games of pinball count 3/5 ball play, only exception being Pin-Golf]
See you in the morning . . . flight lands at like 9am.

    Inside joke much?
