Quoted from ForceFlow:I saw a video on that lock puzzle a couple months back....it looked like a tricky one to solve.
I havent figured out how to open any!
Quoted from OLDPINGUY:I havent figured out how to open any!
Do you just collect them, or do you actively try to solve them?
I like the puzzles that have visible mechanics or use logic. The ones that have hidden internal mechanisms that you have to figure out blind don't appeal to me too much.
I do try. Some are not so "playable" meaning you get stumped easy, dont advance, and it makes it hard to go further.
Other Puzzles have "playability", you get movement, and progress, but it isnt always right, but you can see your efforts.
A Rubiks Cube being a prime example of motion and playability.
A Solid cube with no movement, not as much fun.
I do Collect some that I havent tried yet. As investments, they have been great. Others I might have a week into. I am just really lousy
at solving.
Quoted from OLDPINGUY:A Solid cube with no movement, not as much fun.
Exactly--the ones with internal magnets or bearings that you have to manipulate are basically impossible without hints.
Quoted from OLDPINGUY:A Rubiks Cube being a prime example of motion and playability.
But a Rubiks cube is very non-linear. You could make 20 moves on it and still spin your wheels. I've seen other puzzle boxes are fairly linear and progressive.
Just for fun, a couple months ago, I drew up several pages of designs for multi-step puzzle box with several mini games that would maybe about the size of 4 loafs of bread. Maybe about 50 steps in total, but some areas need some polishing. I thought I might tackle building a prototype if I ended up having some downtime during quarantine, but no luck there.

Its quite a rewarding opportunity, if you can create or design, Adam.
Feel free to PM me if I can help, or put you in touch with others.
Some Mutistep puzzle boxes have forwards and backwards movements, that get confused, and take you backwards! Heres a 324 move, traditional Japanese version.

Ok, I'll keep that in mind--thanks

That's insane, lol
Pocket Watches! It's fun to see what people value them at much like pinball machines. Another case of just because it is old doesn't mean it is worth a fortuuuuune, especially not working. If ya'll have some old family pocket watches, I'll make you an offer if they are collecting dust.
Lately I've been recapping/fixing little transistor radios from the 60s, I also have some 50s-60s b&w and color TV sets that I restored by recapping them and replacing tubes etc. If you think capacitors in pinball machines can get old, you should see the ones in those babies, bigger and made outta paper and wax and they're almost always dried up.
I've always been heavily into my hobbies. The primary ones, beside pinball
and vintage arcade vids are classic cars (mostly Brit sports cars) and all
types of vintage electronics. My first hobby as a kid was ham radio and now
that I've retired kinda going nuts collecting and restoring items I could
only dream of having. An added plus is most are smaller and less
expensive than pins or cars.
Steve
I wanted to share some new pieces Ive added!

love the aesthetics of turning those rotary handles!
Vintage t-shirts. Lots and lots of vintage shirts! And screen printed posters to a lesser extent. If you have a bunch of old shirts that you want to get rid of, let me know!
Been collecting comics since I was a

I’ve got a friend that collects these time of puzzles. Some of them just look really cool!
I have a big collection of high end graded old basketball cards
Not nearly as fun when my grandmother would take us to the 7-11 to buy packs of cards for a nickel. The stick of gum was good too

Wow, Good Luck if you can get one, they do go into the thousands after release!
They can also be found on Cubicdissection Auctions, and http://puzzles.baxterweb.com/
Thanks for the offer, I hope my wife keeps them all way after I die.
Danlocks are a great puzzle! I havent chatted with Dan in a while, and I see his son is making some.
They even are on Amazon. The Original Danlock is under priced at around $200 ish...
The Titan Lock at $100 is a nice trick lock.
Glad you found this crazy hobby, its exploding.
And like pinball 7 years ago or so, people are buying and selling with crazy profits, on limited pieces.
Im working on a Russian Puzzle, Verticale, only 10 made, with 15,000 moves! Nicely 3D printed.

I got the T12!!! $985
Super excited. Now the quest to hunt down the other 11, lol. Hopefully over time I can find a few anyways.
The titan looks awesome too, waiting for them to get in stock or show up on a auction site.
Also 18 minutes away from winning an auction of a Strijbos' revenge lock!

Where did you find the T12?
I can imagine the look on your face when you hold that beast for the first time!

Quoted from EJS:I have a few coin operated periodicals. Here’s about half of them.

I'd be all over that except for two things:
1) need space online to put them
2) copyrighted content
Quoted from EJS:I'd be all over that except for two things:

1) I would cover all the costs of hosting them
2) let's focus on archiving the oldest first, and worry about copyright later. There's zero risk to scanning them, and I would assume all the risk in hosting them.
some recent scans I put up: http://pinballnovice.blogspot.com/2020/08/3-issues-of-canadian-coin-box-magazine.html

I too, havent got past step 1...No cheating by reading solution or videos..
I have not succeeded on any of Raniers Locks.
Youll likely be able to Enjoy for as long as you wish, and then resale on Cubic or Baxterweb.
Should bring $1800-$3500...That will make you happy!
I don't collect anything, but I have never threw away anything I ever found that I never seen before, that I thought may be worth something someday.
I have a lot of old soda bottles, and other what-nots, but I think the coolest thing is a unopened beer in a aluminum can I found about 40 years ago. Witches Brew, made in LA.
I remember about the time I found that Billy Beer was selling for big bucks.
After Dad passed I looked at some of his odd stuff on Ebay. Nothing much, worth 20-25 for this or that. I was just curious, not worth it for me.
A long time ago when I seen how old stuff could get valuable I told Mom to never throw anything old away. I think I have a sewing machine in a wooden box from the 60's.
I have a 1950 100.00 bill that is in pretty good shape. I know the value of that is at least 100.00
When I was young I did collect coins. I had a whole lot of different stuff, but my favorite was a $3 1854-0 gold piece.
I would say now I collect rent, but it does not even seem that way, the tenants just drop it in my box once a month. (all that used to be a nightmare and I would have to "chase" the rent, but thankfully I have awesome tenants now).
Anyway, stuff has been "collecting" here for over 50 years. I would sell most for 50% of last price sold for on Ebay.
(yes I am easy to deal with like that, so many people want close to what something is listed for, and that is wrong, the real price is what that item actually sold for).
(and when I say most, the rare CD's I sell on Amazon, not selling them 50% off).
(and no coins left, they were sold long ago when buying rental houses).
(and I would only trust someone that has been active on this site for at least 2 years).
I love Pinside and everyone here!
