When I first moved to small town Canmore 25 years ago (where I currently live) we didn't even have a single set of traffic lights and only stop signs at every intersection. You could walk the streets and knew most everyone's name. Real estate was cheap and nobody even cared that much about this little town. Canmore was kinda like pinball in allot of ways. Simple, you knew everyone and it was easy to navigate.
Things have changed in both worlds. Canmore is mega expensive and the town has exploded in population, real estate is 10 times the price that it was 25 years ago, and I know just a tiny percentage of the people I pass on the street. Hell, they are even filming a new HBO series right down my street based on a video game I've never even heard of. $10 million per episode and they have transformed our main street into Jackson, Wyoming for the shoot. Traffic is brutal and there is chaos everywhere due to the film schedule. All this mania in town feels like all the mania in pinball these days.
And ya know what? I love it. I love all the action in Canmore and all the action on Pinside. Sure, I miss the small town feel of old Canmore and old Pinside but I just choose to focus on the things that interest me and the people that I enjoy in both locations. Sure, there is some weird shit going on in the pinball world as well as Canmore but I like the freak show and I sure as shit don't get too invested in anything unless I really enjoy it. I find it all really entertaining and I personally think Pinside is the best forum I've ever been on, past and present.
Things are a lot different now, but I'm ok with that. I've only got 30 to 40 years left, if I'm super lucky, so I'm gonna just enjoy the ride as much as I can.
