(although I miss the days when I could board a 727 and have the entire one side of the aisle all to myself and a bored stewardess at my back and call ).

Fantastic post but I need to hear more about the stewardess at your back!!

I really miss the old pinside. Back in the day when I joined and posted for the very first time it listed the post as 1 min ago. Now, when I try to relive those long ago moments of pinside past my original post says 12 months ago.

    Quoted from EJS:

I think used TAF ramps were going for $400 or more in a small window of history.

I remember when they were hitting $500 on Ebay. I needed one. A man emailed me an Ebay link for a smokey one NOS complete for $250. He wanted to know if it was a good deal.

I emailed him back and thanked him for the link. Then I emailed him and told him I wouldn't do that. If he needed it he best grab it as it was a buy it now for half of what they were going for. He thanked me and bought it.

Fast forward some years when the ramp was reproduced for around $125. He posts on RGP and blasts me for telling him to buy the one for $250. He didn't mention they were NLA when he bought it and at that time we didn't know if it would ever be reproduced.

    No good deed goes unpunished.

My first flight in 1970. From Wichita to Chicago was a full flight. From Chicago to D.C. there were 3 passengers total ( ahem...3 souls on board ) on the 727. One of the stewardess's was sitting on the arm of an aisle seat, just shooting the breeze with one of the other passengers.

And then there was turbulence. I think my eyes got wide at my first experience with turbulence. But the stewardess still kept her hiney parked on that chair arm so I figured all was well.

She sold me her Kingpin spot awhile back. I didn’t pry too much but got the gist it had little to do with Pinside.

No kidding? I forgot about that. I would love if Kingpin was made/remade, but I haven't read anything about it in a long time. Is it still happening?

    #208 2 years ago

Do you think speculation on game releases has changed? Alot more new machines and companies now, so possibly the reason for so many speculation threads...(?)

When I first moved to small town Canmore 25 years ago (where I currently live) we didn't even have a single set of traffic lights and only stop signs at every intersection. You could walk the streets and knew most everyone's name. Real estate was cheap and nobody even cared that much about this little town. Canmore was kinda like pinball in allot of ways. Simple, you knew everyone and it was easy to navigate.

Things have changed in both worlds. Canmore is mega expensive and the town has exploded in population, real estate is 10 times the price that it was 25 years ago, and I know just a tiny percentage of the people I pass on the street. Hell, they are even filming a new HBO series right down my street based on a video game I've never even heard of. $10 million per episode and they have transformed our main street into Jackson, Wyoming for the shoot. Traffic is brutal and there is chaos everywhere due to the film schedule. All this mania in town feels like all the mania in pinball these days.

And ya know what? I love it. I love all the action in Canmore and all the action on Pinside. Sure, I miss the small town feel of old Canmore and old Pinside but I just choose to focus on the things that interest me and the people that I enjoy in both locations. Sure, there is some weird shit going on in the pinball world as well as Canmore but I like the freak show and I sure as shit don't get too invested in anything unless I really enjoy it. I find it all really entertaining and I personally think Pinside is the best forum I've ever been on, past and present.

Things are a lot different now, but I'm ok with that. I've only got 30 to 40 years left, if I'm super lucky, so I'm gonna just enjoy the ride as much as I can.

The Last of Us. I’m a casual gamer, but that game and it’s sequel have incredible stories and both are among the best games I’ve ever played. I’m really looking forward to the series. Pretty cool it’s in your town!

No idea. But last I emailed the gang doing the project they were all busy doing their full time gigs. I played the original. Fucken A that’s a kickass fun pin. So I’m hoping they can get the manufacturing going with whomever they can get. AP? CGC? Hell, Stern or even JJP at this point.

I would believe Rick@PPS would know if someone approached about this by now.

Yeah, I remember some of the crazy high ramp prices. Luckily, I never needed any of those at the time, but I have bought my fair share of NLA parts that were then later reproduced at a cheaper price. It happens. We're really lucky that more and more parts keep getting reproduced. Although the lull between when NOS parts run out and when they get reproduced can be a little painful if you need said parts.

    Changed? Definitely.

The increase of frequency in game releases has increased the number of individual threads, but the activity in each of those threads has risen overall.

Speculation and hype thread discussions can go on for pages and stay active for really long periods of time. Years, in some cases. That's both likely due to the enthusiasm for various potential and popular themes, and any tiny crumbs of info that manage to shake loose.

    #215 2 years ago

I’d bet 10 years from now things will be different yet again as mentioned above.

I don’t participate in hype threads but I think they have become more popular?

    #216 2 years ago

I actually miss many of the great Pinsider's we lost over the years whether from long term illness or sudden passing's. They all each in their own way help shape and forged this community with their time among us with their knowledge, suggestions and even their quick witted humor. Every now and then even before seeing this thread often think of some of them.

    #217 2 years ago

I'm not one of the ancients, but it's changed huge in the last 5 years. The hobby is rocketing off the face of the earth, and it's bringing in a ton of newbs. That's great, and great for the hobby. With the rise in numbers, there is a rise in redundancy in the threads, which is a bit annoying at times. I don't even follow most of my owner's club threads anymore because they are just the same questions over and over and over. I can't bring myself to mention the search function for the 453rd time. I just can't!

    #218 2 years ago

Find it pretty cool to search random pinball things I've pondered on Google, as it will generally point to several Pinside threads I never even knew existed.

The amount of info on our niche hobby here is really staggering.

Believe there are still many that are passionate about Pinball, but the hobby itself has sort of changed ( not saying for better or worse).

Don't know if that makes sense....but some just want the newest, some insist on $1k on mods without even having the game, and some are focused on the $$$ flip aspect.

The hype is definitely real in here....

You might not know many people anymore but I bet lots of residents know you for your car! Not a lot of GT40s cruising around I'm sure.

I worked with a guy in 99 and 00 who half owned a fine dining restaurant in Canmore with his brother. Can't remember the name of the place but he was always menu taste testing on us. First time I ever had gator.

I can't bring myself to mention the search function for the 453rd time. I just can't!

    I'm glad you don't.

If I knew what I was looking for I would use the search function.

And I have used the search function many times and wind up in a thread that dies on the vine with no solution for the question the thread was started for. It is just "poof" and the thread is done. And I still have an open question.

Or I use the search function and the next thing I know I am being sent off to BF Egypt for a total waste of time.

And I am happy when some old time pinsider remembers something from way back and has the thread saved in a file folder for ready reference but tells me to go search. And I am like "Can't you just provide a link to the thread?"

Nothing has changed. We just got older and grumpier.

I'll shoot a text to McCune and see what he's up to. I haven't heard from him in quite awhile. I doubt he could be coaxed back.

    Quoted from gambit3113:

There is that......things have changed though, even if just the sheer amount of traffic. McCune was a known quantity, and his take on things never bothered me. Some of this stuff now is just far left field compared to past dialogue. Only constant is change I suppose....

You are correct sir. That car gets allot of attention but I get a kick out of talking with people I know and strangers alike when discussing my ride. It's the same way when I talk to people about my pins and pins in general. I really dig my two hobbies and the changes in the car world over the past 20 years are very similar to the changes in the pin world over the past 20 years.

    Oh shit........ a cargument!

Tell McCune, Donnyman from AZ says hi, and I hope he's doing well, I lost a friend 15 years ago from the same thing. You don't see it coming, otherwise you would show up with your whole entire family & The X-Men to resolve this

I took a couple year break from pinside, honestly I find this place better these days mostly because there's less of this:

how you can't make off-color jokes around them

Speaking as an entitled millennial. I heard enough of that garbage in high school, it's okay to move on.
