    Civil engineer.

People who respond to these types of threads on the internet are usually the people with pretty good jobs.

Or if they have a lame job, they don't realize it and think it's swell.

Rarely do you see a guy say that he sorts trash at a recycling center or something like that.

Or mops the floors at a peep show.

    Quoted from Mbecker:

lol love how many people work for a "major" company or "the largest" within an industry and/or make sure to note they are the "senior" or "lead" ..designer, engineer, etc gotta make that job / title sound elite! and powerful!

People always try to build themselves up in the eyes of other people.

We all feel like we have to be perfect and we're all a mixture of great and awful and everything in between.

We ignore the stuff we're good at and we magnify the stuff we're bad at.

We try to validate our worth by how other people respond to us.

We gauge our worth by the worth of our job and our possessions.

Why is public speaking the No.1 fear of humanity, greater than even death?

It's because humiliation is the great enemy of happiness. We cringe in fear of making a mistake that other people will see.

So here we all are, desperately trying to impress strangers with our mighty job titles.

    That having been said,

If you didn't take 4 semester of calc and physics, you don't qualify as an engineer in my book.

And I mean engineering school calc and physics, not the baby versions they give non-engineers.

So call yourself a "pastry engineer" or "day care engineer" all you want, but you're still not getting an invite to our secret nerd society.

am I the only one who cares about the rules??

    Quoted from GorillaBiscuits:

    Well put. I guess you're a writer?

    I'm a Civil Engineer

    Philosophy-o-gizing is just a hobby
