I buy poorly run companies then fix them up and sell them. Sometimes I break them up into smaller companies and sell them separately for more than the whole.

I’m a full time employee of the Indiana Air National Guard by day and pain in the ass husband at night.

I am a hybrid between cyber-security project management, proposal development, and am pimped out to move from project to project as I have 3 degrees and a dozen IT and project management certifications and military experience. I am the finder of rare and/or desirable things. Quite often with wheels on them but sometimes they’re just antiques but they can be modern or the first of something. Early production, low production etc. Is it a job?

Did 30+ years as a military pilot/staff officer in the Reg Force. Now in the reserves and in double-dipping heaven(pension + salary) which funds the hobby for the time being. I had planned on paying off the mortgage early... Damn pinballs.. Picking up 2 more NIBs in a few weeks...

Hopefully I can keep it up for another 8-9 years.

Software engineer; I've coded software and integrated systems in lots of different areas such as articulated haulers, automated industrial manufacturing cells, testing of industrial robots, SCADA systems and so on.

I clean up peoples messes and get paid poorly for it. Yes, those kinds of messes too. But my gf also loves pinball, so I am rich in other ways.

    #867 1 year ago

I was a mechanical engineer in heat transfer, but I went back to school at got a degree in Computer Science. The pay was better and the job opportunities went through the roof. I've written software for piles of companies. But after writing a system for generating denial letters for an insurance company, it was time to find a new job. Something about that just didn't sit right with me.

I own a wholesale picture framing company and a retail frame design showroom that has a gallery and pinball arcade, aka a pinball gallery. It's called The Flipper Room. We had about 40 pinball machines before the pandemic and are at about 27 right now.

Forensic Collision Investigator dealing with road traffic collisions.

Family owned business. We used to own a security installation business but sold to ADT a few years back.

We currently own a wholesale distribution business of mechanical and electronic locking hardware. Since we switched focus from the install to wholesale we have been able grow it 20% a year. Much easier obviously less labor intensive business.

Spent most of my 20s and early 30s as a DJ in an indie hip hop group: https://adeem.bandcamp.com/album/glue-catch-as-catch-can
Now after delayed adulthood, I'm a senior research assistant in an academic health center (family medicine department). Lots of project management for grants, herding cats, data analysis, writing, and always learning something new, particularly during COVID. I love my job.

Worked for the State Revenue Department in the audit division for most of 32 years and forced out by my new boss. My old boss told me that they were looking to get rid of me one way or another. So that makes me retired as of now.

Congrats on 32 years with the same employer. That was my magic number.. The nice thing is that you have your rental homes to provide an income stream. I'm guessing the State of Indiana provides a nice pension and medical benefits until Medicare kicks in...

Well think of it this way. Same amount of bills coming in with half the amount of money. I sold one of my houses because I was draining my account. I do have dental but the medical is not there as unless I was elected to the statehouse they are the only ones who get medical for life not me. I do have a HSA (health saving account) from there but that is almost gone as having to pay full price for anything that comes up. The last was having my big toenail ripped off as it was infected.

Rewind about 30+ years, mid 80s, I was dating a girl that sold weed.

Me and my buddy and 2 local girls are sitting around a table playing cards at my buddies cottage up north. Late at night, drunk, one of the girls asks what my girlfriend does. Too drunk to care about thinking up a lie, I just said "She's a drug dealer". The girl gets kinda huffy..."well then DONT tell me!" and my buddy is laughing, "She IS!"

Your comment just dredged that up out of the depths.....
