I was looking to get a replacement ribbon cable kit on both my Theatre of Magic and my World Cup Soccer . Some of the vendors sell cables with these ferrite cores or ferrite beads. I don't know what the purpose of these ferrite pieces are. Can someone give me a little explanation of what they do or how they work and perhaps also if they are necessary? If they are missing, would it cause problems somehow?

Thanks!!

FerrITE. It suppresses noise. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferrite_bead

If the original game didn't have it, it's likely not needed. But depending on where they're placed, they might reduce some of the background hum you get on older machines in the speakers. Or they might just do nothing.

A ferrite core is designed to clean common mode noise (signal) generated from either a signal line or power cable. They are used to suppress electromagnetic emissions by blocking low-frequency noise and absorbing high-frequency noise. This avoids electromagnetic interference.
I used to see these come with computer monitors quite often.
I don’t think I’ve seen these in a pin before.
