Not impossible. I could get to 10,000 once or twice/year.
I found that the playability or ease of the machine was extremely sensitive to the inclination you set the playfield to. Too shallow an inclination, and the ball would stay up top a higher % of time and drop into the (shallow) saucer repeatedly. That advances the bug also. Too steep an inclination, and the ball would repeatedly spin out of the saucer and rarely drop into it.
I owned a nice Doodle, but my friends didn't like it (too hard for them) and I finally sold it to a guy who had emotional attachment to the game and really wanted one. He had been a 19 yo in the Army and his base rec center had one. Guy was going to an Army buddy reunion and really wanted to bring the machine for them all to play. I was a sucker for the story!
