Quoted from SantaEatsCheese:

My family has played the crap out of the little arcade 1up multicade pi conversion we bought last year and we recently had the chance to upgrade to a full size computer based PC based cabinet that we can play pretty much anything on now.
My kids really like beat em' ups. Simpson, TMNT, Aliens vs Predator, XMEN, Final Fight, etc. Any other recommendations along those lines?[quoted image]

Did you build that cab or buy it somewhere? Looks great. I wonder if there are LCD bezels we can buy yet?

Neither. It is an N2fun build. https://www.n2fun.com/
I got this one for free from the company office. It is a fantastic build (made out of Ikea quality furniture) that came plug and play. I got it for free from the company office because the machine has EVERY arcade game ever made before about 2005 and every consoles up to PS3. This includes a bunch of random pornographic Japanese games I have been meticulously removing 1 at a time but more keep popping up. Completely unsuitable for the company office when someone can pull up something like Girls Panic or Custer's Revenge.
I am pretty sure it is built out of an Xtensions arcade. They offer custom art, and there are many companies that make custom art kits. I personally think that an Arcade 1up with retropi kit (around $800 on your local facebook) is a better deal and gets you 90% of the functionality, but there are certain things like early 3d games I can play on this but not on the old kit.
I digress... it's awesome.

Holy crap those are pricey! I have an Arcade 1up already with a huge amount of games on it (a Pi-based mame build), but I hate the cabinet size. I'd like to move to something that doesn't take up much space but is at least the height and relative weight (er, or a bit lighter) of a full cab, and is freestanding. Cool ideas on this page. I'll look up Xtensions too. thanks!

Honestly... were I in the market I would be looking at Craigslist and Facebook marketplace. There are several places local advertised on these sites that do custom builds relatively cheaply, and used Mame setups don't hold their value.
One other odd suggestion... Check... Etsy. There are lots of kits and artsy things people sell. You can buy a pre-loaded hard drive with controls mapped if you are not comfortable doing it yourself, and there are some other neat kits. Things like DIY kits you combine with specific pieces of Ikea furniture.

Thanks! Good ideas. I'm SUPER comfortable with the hardware/software - but the cabinet design is something I don't have time for. I'll look at Etsy, great idea!
